  1. Hi,

Requesting some info regarding travel to Canada. We filed for removal of condition on 13th May 2015 and my biometrics was done on 24th Aug 2015. My green card expired on 25th May 2015 and I have an extension letter (NOA1) which extends my status till 25th May 2016. We are planning to visit Niagara falls on 21st and 22nd of September and planning to go to the Canadian side. Wondering if there will be a problem entering Canada with the expired green card and extension letter.

I assume I can enter US with the extension letter and expired green card based on some of the posts on VJ.

  2. My brother's 10 year old tourist visa stamp is expiring in May and unfortunately, his kids are taking exams between now through June and he wants to stay with them. I am wondering what are my options?

    1. Is there something like 'asking for extension'?

    2. If not, does he have to restart from scratch?

    3. If he has to start from scratch, what are his chances of getting tourist visa from India - Mumbai or Chennai?

He is almost retired, he will be coming alone without his wife and kids and going back after touring America. He has sufficient fund to take care of himself.

    Thanks!

  3. Hi Everyone,

Finally, I am able to see some status updates with my receipt number on USCIS website, I POE'd in May 2013 with CR1 visa and haven't yet received my Green Card, inspite of multiple follow ups and Infopass appointments. I am in the process of filing for Removal of Condition. To my surprise, I see a change in the case status. It says "On February 24, 2015, we began producing your new card for your Form OS155A, Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration, Receipt Number IOExxxxxxxxxxx. We will mail your card to the address you gave us."

How long would it normally take from this status to actually receive the Green card?

    Appreciate response for this question.

  4. Hello Everyone.

We are in the process of filing for Removal of Condition. As per the instructions, we are supposed enclose a copy of the front and back side of the greencard. However, I never received the green card after entering the US inspite of multiple follow ups and Infopass appointments. The Visa fees has been received. The reason for not receiving the green card still remains a mystery.

Can I attach a copy of my passport with the I-551 stamp instead of the green card and explain the same in the covering letter?

Is this sufficient or do i need to enclose anything else?

  5. Darnell - you are right. My passport has i-551 stamp that expires on Feb 26th and like you said, I plan to use NOA + i551 to enter the country.

Pinkrlion - I have not been out of the country the entire period - I just left in December first week - not knowing that this would happen.

Boiler - I plan to show the NOA to the airlines after I get it along with the i-551 on the passport (because I never got my greencard). I have copies of USCIS email showing below to furthermore establish that

"The status of this service request is:

A search of USCIS records indicates the Immigrant Visa Fee has been received. We are actively attempting to resolve the payment issue in regards to your Immigrant Visa Fee. If you do not receive your Permanent Resident Card within the next 90 days, please contact customer service. We apologize for the inconvenience"

kzielu - I am reaching 2 years of my resident(cy) - not because stamp is getting expired.

Thanks all!! Now, do you see any issues with me and my husband filing i-751 when I am abroad and back in about 8 weeks?

  6. Darnell - I re-read your email.

I am not sure if I understood but what I am thinking is, we file the ROC on Feb 28th and wait for NOC. Once, I get my NOC, I will be able to enter the country and continue with Biometrics etc.

If they had mailed my greencard, I would have not have any issues re-entering until the last day and then mailed it (this is worst-case). Now, I am running out of ideas and this is the only approach that comes to my mind.

Do you or anybody in this forum see any issues with this approach?

  7. Mine is a unique story - I never received a green card after entering this country and made several infopass appointments and met with them - nothing happened (they have acknowledged that INS has received the payment).

I left the country with a stamp on my passport and this is the dilemma I am going through.

My stamp expires this month end however, I have a medical situation here that I cannot travel back. My husband made a visit to field office (Infopass) and they asked that I go to local Consulate and I cannot do that either because of my medical situation.

With that said, I am thinking, I did not get my green card (with no fault of mine) and if we file the ROC and obtain NOA, I can probably travel back in a month or worst case 2 months.

    What do you guys think?

  8. Are the "issue date" and "valid until" date correct as you have typed it above? The "Valid until" date is almost a month before the "issue date."

You are free to travel to India and return to the US with the I-551 stamp. If you will be gone for more than one year, get a re-entry permit using I-131 application.

Will someone be available at your US address to receive your plastic GC or will you abandon the address while you are in India? From what you write, it sounds like it will arrive first at your US address while you are in India. Will it be possible to arrange to receive the plastic card while you are India? If not, then the Infopass appointment or a call to USCIS to find out how to re-direct your card may be the next step.

Sorry for the confusion. The dates are as follows:

    Issue Date: 5/9/2014

    Officer:

    Employment Authorized

    Valid Until: 8/8/2014

My husband lives in the US address to receive the green card (if it arrives). I traveled on 12th May 2014 to India and want to travel back to the US on 16th Aug 2014, if that is fine

  9. I need help with regard to I551 stamp on my passport. Here is my situation.

I entered the US on 26th May 2013 on CR1 visa. However, I have not received my plastic green card and have been following up with USCIS. The fee of $165 has been paid and accepted. I made Infopass appointment as well to follow up. While I am waiting for this, I had to travel for a family commitment to India and before leaving the US, I got I551 stamp on my passport. The stamp has the following

" Upon Endorsement serves as temporary I551 evidencing permanent residency for one year"

    Issue Date: 9/5/2014

    Officer:

    Employment Authorized

    Valid Until: 8/8/2014

Does this mean, that this stamp is valid until 8/8/2014 and I have to travel back to the US before 8/8/2014 or is it valid till May 2015.

I need to plan to travel back based on the response.

  10. Have your spouse contact his/her congressman or senator. Look for immigration aide on their website, download privacy act waiver (so they can inquire on your behalf), fill it out and send it to them alongside all paperwork and notices you have received since arriving to the US one year ago - copy of immigrant visa from the passport, fee payment for GC...

I'd also go to infopass and get a stamp in your passport until your GC arrives.

Thanks for you response. I have already scheduled Infopass appointment to get a stamp on my passport.
