  1. Hi,

I've been here in Boston for 6 months now. I have a good job i am established and earning decent money.

I am trying to lease a car, i negotiated a fantastic deal. I was told i needed a cosigner, this would be my wife, this was rejected due to her having a car lease under 1 year. In steps her father, he is willing to be a cosigner, this again rejected. They explained that i am not allowed to open a car lease in my name until i have my green card. I have a EAD and AP with expiry date of Feb 2014, by then i assume my green card would have come through. They explained only way i could get car is if my wife opens up the lease, no point as the whole point of this lease is for me to establish credit in this country.

Any advice, similar stories, seems frustrating as i have a job income, doing everything by the book, yet i cant even get a car lease until i have a green card!!!

    Advice would be great

  2. SSN i have, that came through within a week of applying for it.

So i cannot work on my NOA2 then for employment, i need the actual card ? Are they quite quick with these sort of things then ?

    Thanks

  3. Hello fellow friends.

I just wanted clarification on a few things. Tonight i notice on the USCIS website that my EAD and AP were approved, and I was mailed a notice on Friday 8th February.

Really wanted to know that when my NOA 2 for EAD turns up hopefully this week, am i then permitted to accept a job offer and begin employment ? Or do i need to wait for the actual card to turn up in the mail, if so how long does this take ?

For AP i have a flight leaving the US on friday 8th march which was my return leg of when i came into the usa on the 10th december. I now need to book a flight coming back, can i therefore do this with an approved AP, or again do i need to wait for some sort of card in the mail ?

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hello,

I hope everyone had good Xmas' and happy new year to all!!

So i've been settled here in boston for a few weeks now and moving forward with my new life. i wanted some advice in regards to driving.

I have a uk license however the card expires on the 6th january 2013, photo card section expires. I am due to take my theory test this coming friday and hopefully if i pass will schedule actual driving test for as soon as possible.

If however i fail and this is delayed, does anyone know the stance on driving in MA on an expired photo card license ?

Any advice would be great ?

  5. Congratulations so happy for you guys.

    How's your AOS coming along.

Bit of SSN advice. I saw on visa journey many times to wait two weeks for details to be in the system. I applied for one the day after arriving and I received mine today only took six days

  6. Are you in MA? From the day you become a resident you need a MA license but the cops don't know that! I drove on my UK license for a year.

It sucks taking the test again but it is ridiculously easy.

Yeah i'm in MA, i've been driving all week.

Applied for SSN on Tuesday and informed it will be mailed to me within two weeks which seems pretty quick.

I was told by the drivers license place in Boston that i could not apply for my permit without my SSN, so will go back when that arrives

How easy is this test then ?

    Thanks

  7. yeah it does suck.

I'm sort of just sat around. having found out i have to take my drivers test again

i just hope my ead comes through as soon as possible.

with aos being submitted next tuesday i just hope everything comes within days, i know this isnt going to happen, but as quickly as possible

  8. Hey,

I also travelled to Boston last night on my k1 visa.

POE took literally ten minutes, maybe because we got in at 22.45 I don't know, but it was very easy.

A few questions and I was on my way.

Something I was told by the immigration officer.

When asked what my plans were for work, I said well ive interviews lined up but obviously cannot start until my EAD has come through. He then said well that's incorrect, I can simply go to the immigration office in Boston and they will stamp my passport with proof I can work as soon as my marriage certificate has come through, and then wait the few months to get the EADin the mail.

    Is this true ?

    Thanks
