I took my Oath in Orlando, FL today. There were 100 people from 32 countries. I was the only Australian.

The ceremony was scheduled for 1pm, and at 12:45pm they asked the guests/family to enter the room and be seated. Then applicants were asked to enter at approx. 12.55pm. We were asked to surrender our Residency Cards and answered a few questions regarding our Oath Ceremony notices. Then we went into the room, gave our Letter to the Officer, and shown to a seat. By 1:01pm I was in my seat in the front row. Each seat had the Naturalization Packet plus a flag - inside there are lots over important documents, including a copy of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Then we waited for a very long time. We were greeted and encouraged to register to vote and get our passports as quickly as possible. Then we waited some more.

The ceremony started at about 1:30pm, with the Master of Ceremonies greeting us with great enthusiasm. He called out each nation represented and each stood when their respective nation was called. We sang the Star Spangled Banner, then took our Oath of Allegiance, and the Pledge of Allegiance. They also showed 3 videos.

The M.C. was very animated and enthusiastic. He took his job very seriously and with great pride welcomed us as new U.S. Citizens. The ceremony ended and we were presented with our certificates, and took photos with the Immigration officer who presented the certificate.

I registered to vote before leaving. It seems that the usual 60 day cut off date has been waived for this year's election.

I recieved my Oath Date Letter today. September 22. just 10 more days!

I had my interview at 7.30am today!!! By 7.55am it was Approved!!! Yay!!!

The Immigration officer was very pleasant and personable. Quite funny, too! I requested that my Oath date be pushed back to mid September, as I will be on vacation until the first week of September. He said it will take about a week to receive my letter with the Oath date. He also said that many people are getting their oath dates within 30 days of approval, because it's an election year.

I received my interview letter on Friday!! I honestly didn't expect it to move so quickly. I need to go learn some civics!

I have the joy of the 7:30am interview. I certainly hope that my interviewer is a morning person and in a good mood!

Biometrics. Done. The efficiency of the current system amazes me! I remember the chaos of 20 years ago all too well - arriving an hour early and waiting 2-3 hours past the appointment time.... So today I got to the office 35 mins early, partly because I had to drive 1.5hrs and expected heavy traffic, and partly because I just like to be one time. I was done 5 mins after my appointment time. Now the real wait begins.

You're lucky , Philly is about 5 months.

I just saw that timeframes for Honolulu are about 2.5 months from filing to interview, I sure hope it's not THAT fast. LOL We can't go in June or July.

LOL! By my calculations, Orlando is 6-7 months. I keep praying for a 3 month miracle (a friend of mine got 3 months from application to oath in Tampa). Alas, while I live closer to Tampa than to Orlando, my zip code puts me under Orlando jurisdiction.

Definitely go for the K1 visa! Once you get the visa, you can come and get married and stay! If you get married on a tourist visa you will have to leave and he will have to petition for you to come - it will take more than a year.

My Husband and I actually asked at the USCIS what the best route was. They told us K1. It took 6 months. We applied in April, and were married in September. Actually, it took less than 6 months to get the visa, but we had already settled on the wedding date in September. It was hard to be away from each other for 6 months, but it was much better than a full year.

FYI - when you go to the embassy for your visa interview, they will cancel your tourist visa - 'cancelled without prejudice' will be stamped over it. It's okay, because they will be giving you the K1. Just telling you because I remember my heart stopped when they did that. :-D

Hi! based on USPS tracking, my application was received April 6. My bank showed that the payment posted on April 12th. But I've still yet to receive any notice or email from USCIS. I've also filled out a G-1145 but I haven't received anything in my email either. How long does it usually take to receive a notice?

Mine took 4 business days from reciept (4/14) at the Lewisville Office till I got the Text and Email (4/19). I think the NOA is about 2 weeks from official acceptance, so you should be getting it in the mail soon.

I believe you are trying to file the wrong form. The I-130 is to petition for an Alien Relative who wish's to immigrate to the USA. I trust you are not related to the person with whom you just married.

Hey!! Thanks Hypnos and Floxy for the well wishes!!

You are looking at a US Resident!! :dance: Everything went great. We arrived at the Orlando field office at 8:05am. Security went smoothly. A couple of the guards were even jovial old men, and we all had a good laugh together (one of them was a grumpy old man, and he yelled at me for asking if I needed to take off my shoes... as the guy in front of me had to... but the other guards made up for that by being nice).

Our appointment was for 8:15am. At 8:10am, my name was called! YAY! Then we went back to the adjudications officers room. She was very efficient and professional. She swore us in, asked for ID, then asked DH a bunch of questions pertaining to the I-130, then asked me a couple of questions. Ironically, DH did most of the talking as most of her questions were directed at him. She did not ask for originals or to see photos (I had included a couple in the file, which she studied, but didn't ask questions). She had a good chuckle at DH trying to remember our wedding date... and the look of shock on my face that he'd forget it. :lol:

Then she typed a bunch of stuff into the computer, and told us that I'd be getting my approval letter in a few weeks, followed by the LPR Card. I was disappointed that I didn't get an I551 stamp in my passport - I really wanted to be able to get a few things done this week, but I guess I'll just have to wait for that 'Hallowed Approval Letter' to arrive in the mail.

Oh, and because we've been married for more than 2 years, don't have to apply for conditions to be removed in 2 years. In 3 years, I can apply for citizenship. We're very happy to hear that. :thumbs:

I don't know what time we left the office, but we were sitting at Denny's for breakfast by 8:49am.

Mariana, I think you are mistaken. I have never ever entered the US illegally!! When I did make a mistake (ie. stay overseas too long), I took the consequence that the then INS meted out on me.

When I wrote this post, I was extremely frustrated that the legal process of legal immigrants would be held up by the 'dreamers'. I do believe that illegal immigrants should have consequences, even if they were brought here by older relatives (I actually had a friend that this happened to... she was excluded from entering the US for 10 years. Long story, but in the end a friend petitioned for her to be able to return for her wedding, and the USCIS revoked the exclusion so she could attend the wedding - so there are ways around it. It's not the end of the world).

As it is, I did contact someone in the USCIS to get clarity about the dreamers, and he explained that they simply got work permits or student visas, but they don't have resident status, nor can they adjust their status without leaving the country. Their applications also would not cause a backlog for those who have already filed. This put my mind more at ease. People who have entered illegally should not be able to get residency that easily! Especially when people who have gone the legal route are being put through their paces to prove they have legal grounds to be here. The 'Dreamers' are not refugees. And don't believe that (the majority of) their families were ignorant to the illegal nature of their continued presence in the US. I think on the most part, their actions were calculated, because there are many loopholes that allow illegals to stay and even adjust status.
