Are you going to be celebrating your 2ND wedding anniversary this month? If so then you should be receiving a 10year card!
Yes, 2nd anniversary. We were late filing the AOS due to a delay getting the marriage license. We had to mail our packet twice. The first time it was returned to us, because they couldn't find the check.....that was in the envelope clipped to our cover page. Yeah!
Anyway...they officially got the packet 4/30/14. It took over 11 months to send the RFE, which we didn't get for 2 weeks. It's enough to make me scream.
My husband called USCIS twice today and was told both times that he does have to pay a fee to renew the EAD/AP. I am just frustrated.
Anybody have any idea of the cost for the civil surgeon? I saw some comments about getting ripped off.
-
So this is real?!?!?!
We're all getting RFEs for new medical and vaccine supplement paperwork, because they let ours expire???? Is a designated civil surgeon any doctor or do you have to go somewhere specific??
It's been over a year since they got our I-485. My husband's EAD/AP expires in July. His work mentioned that he needs to get it renewed ASAP. We didn't even think about it before. USCIS says we have to pay the fee again. Is that right?
This seems crazy! Plus it REALLY makes me mad that they refuse to talk to me without my husband saying it's ok.
Calling the USCIS is like getting the run around in the very worst way.

did you get a notice of potential interview waiver? You could join us over here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/541331-notice-of-potential-interview-waiver-case-part-ii/page-222#entry7628243
Lots of helpful folks that can tell you how to renew ead, and others that have gotten RFE for medical too.
Yes, we got that letter in August! 6 months my azz!

Hey guys!
My husband got his EAD/AP last July and it expires this July. We just got an RFE for his physical/vaccination record and it says the form needs to be completed by a civil surgeon. Is any doctor a civil surgeon or does he need to go somewhere specific???
Also, he's working and he needs to renew his EAD. The fee for the AOS covered the EAD/AP. Does he have to pay a fee now to renew? USCIS is saying yes, but that seems shady considering it's taken them over a year to process his AOS.
Help please! Also, is 1-800-375-5283 the best number to call?

No online banking? I'm intending to keep one account open that I can access online, with the postal address set to my parents'.
Won't it charge you each time you use your card in the US?

Hi there
Agree with the above advice about completing a P85. Also, what about voting abroad and maintaining other links to the UK (if that's what he wants to do)? NI contributions in case you both are thinking of returning to the UK at some point and he is then (potentially, depending on what it looks like then) entitled to a state pension? Know I used this site in another thread on this forum, but this gives some great advice about who to inform about what:
https://www.gov.uk/moving-or-retiring-abroad
I also popped into my local GP surgery to tell them I was moving as they tend to send medical records to a central office if you're no longer living in the UK. Again, if you decide to go back at any stage, he can then have those records transferred to his new surgery.
Good luck on his move!
L
This is great. What did you guys do about your bank accounts? I thought it would be best for him to add his sister to the account in case anything needs to be paid or deposited after he leaves.

I sent all my forms on 5th March and they finally logged them on 22nd March. Any ideas how long to get a date from then?
Call DOS and ask. I found out our interview date by doing this. It took about 6 weeks between when we sent our stuff and the interview.
-
Hi everybody.
At this point, Simon's about 10 days away from making the move to ths US.
I'll be headed there on Thursday and he'll be coming back with me on the 11th.
I'm curious what things he will need to take care of that he may not think of. Was there anything you didn't think of (or did)?
He's selling a lot of his stuff. I have a house here, so he won't need to bring anything he doesn't want.
He's already gotten rid of or is planning to cancel most things. He's been living with his parents since he came back from staying here this summer, so that simplifies a lot.
He's turned his notice into work, cancelled cable, will be cancelling his car insurance and cell phone.
Is there anything else? I thought I saw somebody mention something about taxes on here the other day??
We'd appreciate any help!!

Fiance's interview was last Tuesday (19th) and he got a text from DX saying it will be delivered tomorrow. :-)
-
We did our medical before the paperwork. We just waited a couple weeks after getting the LND number before scheduling it. You can always call the DOS to see if London has the electronic file too.
-
To be honest, I've read a lot of Nich's replies as someone who's been through this with her partner and her advice has been invaluable. I also know from experience on these boards (and being attacked for having a particular point of view in the Rant thread) that tone isn't always clear from a written post. In other words - I don't think Nich is being disdainful, she's trying to make sure you have all your bases covered like she's advised me to when I first came to these boards.
I agree!

Check out my timeline. We did everything as quick as possible. It was 3 1/2 months from our NOA2 to interview. My fiancé had his medical before we got the letter from London and we had all of our docs ready. We did out an April wedding day on the cover letter, but not sure if it helped or not.
-
Yep! It's been close to a year since we started this process. It requires patience. I feel like once we're together, though, the rest will be easier to handle.
-
We got the same info when we called several months ago. They gave us the LND number so my fiancé had the medical done before be got the letter. We had everything ready and sent the packet back the day after we got the letter.
They're behind in London, so they may have the physical package, but not logged it yet.
-
I've searched the threads, but might've missed it. Has anybody brought someone to the interview with them? My fiancé wants to bring his sister. Can he? If so, what does he need to do?
-
Long time ago! Late January. I'm beyond frustrated. My fiance called them and they said it's taking an unusual amount of time. If we don't hear anything this week we are supposed to call back. Sigh.
Kristy - Are you the USC? I am and called the DOS today (202-663-1225 press 1, then 0) - there is no per minute charge. They were able to tell me that London has everything they need and that Simon's interview is scheduled for 3/19/13. I asked about the letter and they said one will be coming, but hasn't been sent yet.
I would suggest you call too.
-
All you need to re-validate your case is a new signed letter of intent from the USC to take to the interview. Get your fiancé to write one just like the one in the petition but addressed to the US Embassy London and the current date. It needs to be mailed to you with her original signature (no scan or email.). Your letter of instruction from the embassy tells you that in the second paragraph. Read it again.
I called the DOS like Nich-Nick mentioned and Sim's interview is scheduled for March 19th!! :-)
-
What about the medical? Was it before or after forms were sent?
Before.....on 1/17
-
Okay. Thanks. Worth an ask. We'll probably end up picking a date, and I will mention our other time constraints and hope for the best.
We gave a month before our wedding date, which assuming nothing goes wrong will be 5/25/13. We sent our forms overnight on 1/25 (recevied 1/28) and haven't heard anything yet.
I'd be interested to see if anybody has an interview scheduled that sent after mine. When I look at similar timelines, I can't see anyone that sent their earlier (unless it was a month or more before).
-
Have you received an interview date yet? Still nothing for us!!!
Same here. Fiance mailed "packet 3" on 1/25 overnight, so it was delivered 1/28 (I think). Hopefully this week? When did you send yours?
-
We're in the same boat. What wedding date did you put on the cover letter?
-
Thanks for the reply. I'm shocked you haven't had your interview yet.
I don't really know much about the way it works in the US. When would he get his W2? Would it be April? If so, would the W2 not say he hasn't earned much over the year, which would then affect him sponsoring me. Or does it not work like that?
Your W2 shows how much you've made in the year, so he'll get his 2013 W2 from his employer by 1/31/14. He'll need that to file his taxes, which are due in April.
Either way, he'll probably be fine with his employer letter and pay check stubs.
Yep, no interview here yet. I think they're still behind from the holidays.
-
We are going to be filing for a K1 Visa soon, once my fiance has secured permanent full-time employment in the US.
But there's a bit more to it, until 6th Feb 2013, my fiance lived in the UK. He did work but it was cash in hand (£8k a year) and not declared anywhere. He hasn't filed any tax returns (he turned 18 last June, so can he get away with it?).
So what I'm worried about is when it gets to my interview at the London embassy, will it matter that he doesn't have any tax returns? By then he will have been working for a few months, and will have pay stubs, and a letter from his employer confirming his full time and permanent work, and a letter from his bank. Will that be enough? If not what would be our best way to approach the situation?
EDIT: I forgot to mention he should be making well above the poverty guidelines. Hopefully at least 30k a year.
Honestly, if you haven't filed yet, he may have his W2 before the interview. We filed in June of last year and our interview isn't scheduled yet. I have a letter from my employer and my W2 from 2012. From what I've heard, though a letter and paystubs should be enough for London.
-
Does anybody know about how long it's taking now to have the interview after you've sent the forms? I've looked at the stats and its saying there's about 90 days after the NOA2 before the interview, but that doesn't really tell you much. It's been about 1/2 that time for us and we'll be sending the forms Monday or Tuesday.
Not sure if it matters but this is relating to the K1.

Thanks!!!! I lived on visajourney in 2013. I think I got complacent. This is partially my fault for not following up with the AOS like I did with the K1. I just got the impression that following up does nothing, but make me more frustrated!
