  1. any usa spouse with pc access? all your questions findable in the advanced search tool, but using a pc to use the advanced search tool is a must ! and we're open 24/7 !

Funny enough, but at the moment he doesn't have PC access. Hahah. He's out in the middle of nowhere camping with no reception for at least another two weeks. :( Guess I'll have to try to find them myself.

  2. This is probably going to seem all over the place, and truth be told it mostly is, but now that my interview is only a week and a half away and I'll be (hopefully) leaving one month after that, I figure it's time I get some of this figured out, and I don't necessarily have the time between two jobs and packing to search for the answers. Here's hoping someone can help me out!

    1) What do I do about taxes in Canada once I move to the US? I will have two T4's coming in for the 2015 tax year, and will obviously no longer be able to collect GST that is still due to me in October and January.

    2) Keeping taxes in mind, who do I need to notify when I leave the country? Aside from cell service providers and closing my bank accounts, I have no idea who else to contact. (ServiceCanada? etc...)

    3) Are there any other fees due when I arrive at the Consulate? I paid a $260 (I think) fee when I completed my DS-260, and have completed my medical exam.

    4) I don't remember if I chose to have my SSN mailed to me when I completed the DS-260, and if I did, the address would have changed anyways. Can I fill out a form and bring it to an office instead of waiting for my SSN, which may or may not show up in the mail? Is there any way to correct the address that was given?

    5) And finally, how do you go about becoming a dual citizen, and is it overall more complicated than simply naturalizing to the US? I understand this is years ahead, but I'm a fan of bookmarking and will save anything in reference to what I need to do next.

Hopefully someone can answer a few of these, if not all of them. :P I've got so much going on in my head at the moment that I just don't have the time to hunt for all the answers by myself!

    Thanks in advance!

  3. I just had my medical on the 14th of July with Dr. Lyndon Mascarenhas.

I arrived at the office, filled out a sheet that the receptionist gave me (just my name, address, phone number, and e-mail). Then gave her my vaccination records, one passport-sized photo and my passport to photocopy before sitting back down.

When I was called into his office, he verified the information I wrote down, asked me my height and weight (without weighing me), and asked if I had had chicken pox. He then took my blood pressure. Asked if I had a family doctor and if I get regular check ups, then told me I was free to go. He sent me downstairs for a chest x-ray, and then across the street for a blood test (one vile). That's it! It was $300 and I paid the extra $50 to have my results couriered to me. They arrived at my house two days later!

    Super easy!

  4. LMAO - I sent my husband in line first then I showed up with the kids. Thanks to the hardcore training us Canucks do from our vast knowledge thanks to Saylin's maps and diagrams I even had my kids trained. "OK remember... when we go in the elevator go to the opposite corner and don't move. When we get off, I am going to fly to the left to get in line for the tickets and you guys take a seat! Got it?" They were 7 and 4 at the time and they NAILED IT! I got the coveted first ticket and even took a picture of it! LOL

I seriously need a link to those maps and diagrams!

  5. Personally, I'd take the appointment. If you're in Ontario, the medical professionals are very accommodating and I'm sure would squeeze you in given your interview date. The police background can also be expedited. We paid to have the results express mailed. Took less than a week. The full length copy of the birth certificate can be express mailed as can any divorce certificates.

When you begin the DS-260, there is a bar code with your number on it. See the sample pictures here on VJ. If you don't have your MTL number, I'd call the NVC. They gave us ours over the phone. Good luck!!

    Thank you.

The police report I have is still valid, as I got it only a few months ago, and I already have a full length birth certificate (and thankfully I have no divorce certificates).

Unfortunately, the major issue here is money. The medical exam including courier fees is $350. Doing an 8 hour drive to Montreal will roughly be another $150 in gas, as well as $150 for a hotel stay. Plus they scheduled the interview for a Friday, which is when I am absolutely required to be at work. I was going to schedule my own appointment for a Monday or Tuesday, which are my set days off at work. Even if they scheduled it for a Wednesday or Thursday, it would be better than a Friday.

I thankfully found the number for my DS-260 across from the bar code with my case number on it - thank you for your help with that. :)

  6. Hey guys!

So, I've been waiting for a letter stating that I could schedule my interview date in MTL, but yesterday I received an e-mail that it had been scheduled for me in the middle of May. This date is unfortunately way too early for me, as I'm currently in California visiting my husband and will not return until the beginning of May, leaving me hardly enough time to arrange a medical and make travel/accommodation plans to Montreal. I visited the appropriate website to register and then reschedule my interview (https://ais.usvisa-info.com), but when I try to create an account, it tells me that my case number is not ready for an appointment.

On top of all this, I'm worried that rescheduling my interview will put my visa at risk, as it states that there is 'absolutely no guarantee that the visa will be available on the date of my rescheduled appointment'.

And finally, where can I find my DS-260 number, since I'm having trouble finding it.

Just looking for some opinions on the matter.
Thank you for any help in advance!

  7. Hi there!

My husband and I are at the tail end of our immigration process, but I have a question regarding returning to Canada only days after crossing over with my new visa.

Once I get my visa, I was going to cross the border and take a one-way flight from Buffalo to San Francisco. Then my husband and I were going to drive all the way back to Niagara Falls, Canada (yes, we are that crazy), load all of my belongings in his truck/trailer as well as my two cats, and drive all the way back to San Francisco.

My question is, would there be any issue with me coming back to Canada for a few days, maybe a week tops, just days after I've crossed with my new visa?

    Thank you!

  8. My fiance and I will be getting married in Canada in the fall, then starting this process so I will be able to move to California with him. I understand that when he files the I-130, he needs to include evidence of a bonifide marriage.

    Examples given are:

    1. Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or

    2. A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or

    3. Documentation showing co-mingling of financialresources; or

    4. Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, thepetitioner, and your spouse together; or

    5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties havingpersonal knowledge of the bona fides of the maritalrelationship (Each affidavit must contain the full nameand address, date and place of birth of the person makingthe affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner ofbeneficiary, if any, and complete information and detailsexplaining how the person acquired his or herknowledge of your marriage); or

    6. Any other relevant documentation to establish that thereis an ongoing marital union.

Now, we don't have children together and I will not have been living with him before he files, so I feel as though the only option for us to use would be Affidavits of Support.

What I would like to know is if health plans or benefits count as relevant documentation to establish our marriage?

He plans on adding me to his health care plan and coverage before I arrive in the country - is that enough to prove our marriage?

Please give us any information you have on this matter, and thank you so much!
