  1. Situation: I am a US citizen, my wife is the British immigrant. I've signed an affidavit of support saying I can support her. She entered the US on a k1 visa, we got married, we've filed he AOS. She has her work authorization.

Question: The landscaping season is coming to a close, can I file for unemployment? Or is that not allowed because of the affidavit of support?

  2. Situation:

I am the male US citizen, my wife is the British immigrant. She came here on a k1 visa early August, got married in the middle of August, we sent our I-485 and supporting documents at the end of August. She has her social security card already but it doesn't have work authorization. We haven't changed her last name yet.

    Question:

We already sent all her documents with her maiden name. Can we go to the social security office to change her last name to my name now AFTER having applied already? Or will it confuse and mess up the whole process?

    Thank you in advance.

  3. I need a Japanese police certificate for my K-1 visa and to get one I need a request letter from the US embassy. I've read other people on this forum had to wait for their packet 3's before they could request their police certificate but that delays the whole process by 2-3 months since the Japanese police certificate takes 2-3 months to process!

I am in Japan now and I get the police certificate in person it only takes 2 weeks. Is there any way I could get the request letter right now?

You used to have to appear in person in Bangkok to get the police report but it appears they have changed it now and you can do it by mail. This is Thailand so hopefully you get the police report back to you in the mail. Good luck

Thank you very much with the Thai polcie check!

  5. I backpacked in Australia for 7 months, left to travel elsewhere for 2 months, then came back to Australia for 3 more months. I was backpacking and didn't hold a residence in once place for longer 3 months. If you're traveling within a country does this count as residing in the country for which I need a police certificate?

I also lived in Thailand for 7 months teaching but there is no information anywhere about how to get a police check. On the US reciprocity tables website, they say:
