  1. Hi guys. My wife and I have just had our wedding after I came into the USA on my K1 visa and sent in our AOS a few days ago(within 90 days) and have no reply at all from USCIS to let us know they have it and they have not cashed the check yet either. We have booked our honeymoon in Seattle for 2 weeks from now but we are wondering whether we will have a problem going through the airport because my i94 will be expired by then and we aren't sure whether we will have our NOA1 by that time...I have read on a few pages on the Internet that you can be detained and even face deportation in this situation but I have also read that if you take your marriage license and some proof that you have applied for AOS that they will let you through because you are pending adjustment of status. What do you guys think?

  2. Thanks for the replies, it has made us feel a bit better! We still haven't received any notice from USCIS about them receiving our application and it is a week tomorrow. Tried to call and speak to an operator and as soon as I asked them for help they have me a reply in a robot type voice saying that I must call them 10 days after we apply and then they try to get you off the phone before you ask them anything else...makes me mad that you pay over $1000 so that you can get treated like trash but anyway! We have booked a honeymoon where we will fly to Seattle on 25 April so we are a bit concerned with my expired i94 and without an NOA1 for the AOS cos I have been reading about people getting detained and even deported from the states in this situation.

  3. Hey guys! Just wanted to see if anyone can help here, my wife and I did the whole k1(Fiance'e Visa) process and I came into the states on that visa. We wanted a proper wedding and not a throw together one and about 2 months or so into my 90 day period we were married. We knew that I had to apply for Adjustment Of Status before the 90 days so that we wouldn't have to file extra paperwork etc. so we got on it and just a few days ago we sent off the paperwork to Chicago lockbox. We are kinda confused though because we know that they have received our AOS and EAD paperwork in Chicago because we tracked our post and it was picked up but we aren't sure whether it has been officially filed yet and my 90 day period will be over in a few days so we are a bit worried that they only count it as "filed" when they send the NOA1 because obviously to us it makes sense that it has been filed because they have it but we are in Texas so they may still have to send it down and we are scared it will only be "filed" 91 days after me entering which may open a whole new can of worms!!! Does anyone have any information on this topic?

  4. unfortunately, they do need the un-abridged version of birth certificate. I went to home affairs and was told could take up to 6 months to get, i ranted and raged but applied for it and paid the fee. I was very pleasantly surprised when i got a message saying it was ready for collection 1 week later. Get the long version certificate- it will take longer if you get a RFE for incorrect docs

Thanks for the help. I applied for it and have been nagging them for nearly 2 weeks now so hoping that it will come through soon...as it stands Iwill have to delay my flight because of this :( Hopefully they don't take too long as we are no longer employed(we had to resign from the cruise ships to do this visa).

  5. Hi guys!

My Fiance'e, Lindsey and I sent in all of our documents(I-129f etc)for the K1(Fiance) visa...anyways, we waited a crazy amount of time and finally after lots of stress and unhappiness, the documents have arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa(my home country) and they have emailed us packet 3, which is the checklist and a few forms you need to send back or take with to the interview. So after all of our hard work and preparation in the 7 months we have been waiting to get to this stage, we have found out that the birth certificate that they want at the interview is an "unabridged" one, which means it must have the details of both of my parents on it. I am obviously very unhappy about this as I was born in 1984 and was given a proof of registration of birth which has my DOB and my parents ID number on it,their names are not printed at all.I also have an original South African birth certificate which was issued to me(or probably my mom as I was too young) in 1984, it is green in color and only has my details of birth(DOB, names etc.). The birth certificate that they expect us to bring to the interview is neither of these according to my research but if I were to apply for the unabridged one it would possibly take up to 4 months which is very upsetting as we have all of the other documents(police clearance, forms etc.)ready for the interview. Does anybody know if they will accept my original birth certificate or even my proof of registration of birth(or both)? I really hope so because I would not like our marriage to be delayed 4 months due to 1 dumb piece of paper! :o
