  1. I am applying for AOS after entering USA on a K-1 Visa on 09/30/2012. Married on 10/20/2012. My husband is my petitioner however he had very little income the past years so his Mom & Step-Dad have been claiming him as a dependent on their Income Taxes. When I did my k-1, the step-dad was my sole sponsor for the Affidavit of Support & that was accepted.

Now for my AOS, I got step-dad to sign I-864 Affidavit of Support and received an RFE "Form I-864 Affidavit of Support was submitted; however it was not from the petitioner/sponsor"!

    What should I do?

  2. Packet 4 doesn't contain very much information. Basically I booked my interview date then emailed Dr.Cheema's office (the phone # is a answering machine only) & told them my interview date. They emailed me back with prefer date & then told me my date choices. They are very easy to communicate with, very friendly staff.

I had my medical on Aug 29 & my interview today. Both went very well, visa approved. Expect visa in 3-5 business days thru Loomis/DHL.

  3. When is your appointment? I just emailed them today and was wondering what their appointment schedule is like. :)

That is too bad that he doesn't give results on the same day. Does that mean I need to book my medical 2 days before my interview so that I can bring the results with me to my interview?

I understand that for the AOS, I will need to do another medical exam, but that the results from this test will be good for one year. Woking was able to provide an additional copy of the results. From reading this thread, it sounds like Dr Cheema will not be offering that. Does that mean that I will have to do another medical later for my AOS?

Dr.Cheema does NOT offer the 2nd copy of the records for AOS anymore. I'm wondering about the AOS medical too!

  4. Just booked - August 21st is the next available spot. There are TONS of availability. I booked for Sept 5th so I can hop over the border to visit my hunnie for the long weekend, before my interview & no passport :)

  5. DS-160 is not for K-1. Go to Embassy link and look up Canada then pick Vancouver or Montreal to get links/instructions to Packet 3!

Because you didn't get an RFE, I would assume you're safe without having a copy of the paperwork. I also didn't keep a complete package and luckily am at the NVC stage. I got a Case # within 1 day of the petition arriving at NVC. However, the case is still "under review" and I will be on Day 13 business days at NVC now.

  6. Looking at the website the price has apparently gone from $350 at Woking to $275. That's very good news. The other thing which looks different is the location of the xray and blood test clinics. It says they are about a 4 minute drive away. Which is fine if you're local to the area, but I can imagine that makes it a lot more complicated if you are flying in!! Time to scour that website and see what else has changed... I'm going to assume they still require the same vaccinations etc.

You also only need ONE photo! And no mentions of the extra $50 for a 2nd copy.

  7. Agreed, something needs to open up on the West side - Toronto's medical exam takes 48 hours for results = 2 nights of hotel and cab fare.. If you don't want to wait, its $125 to courier the results to anywhere in Canada and US, $50 for courier in Ontario - absolutely insane!

I also sent an email today, they usually email within 2 business days - Keep us posted if anyone hears anything else!

  8. According to their website:

*Our office is closing: August 1st is the last day for new appointments.

Please contact the US Consulate at vancouverniv@state.gov for further information

Anyone have a heads up on the 'new' procedure or where medical will be completed after August 1st?

  9. Alrighty..

I'm hoping there will be great info posted regarding this topic!

First off, I'm a Canadian so I am very new to understanding the American health care system. My to-be-husband is self-employed, in the "low-income bracket" construction worker with NO medical coverage. As a bachelor, he never even thought about health care plans! Typical male?

My K-1 Visa is almost complete and of course, after the wedding, we'd like to have children. Does anyone know of plans that don't make you wait 1 year to get pregnant? We might wait the year, but I want to cover everything while I am exploring options. Also, somewhere on VJ, I read you CAN take advantage of the State's health-care plans, others have say no because of the Affidavat of Support, the Sponsor would have to re-pay all of it down the road. I'm so confused!

Someone please give FRIENDLY advice to this lost Canadian!

  10. I called last night, this was the information I was able to get...reapproved petitions like mine, travel alone. First time petitions travel together. They could not give me a date that they are currently processing...really nothing new. Was sort of hoping for more. Oh well, I guess I just need to accept that it wont be this summer after all. :(

What day did you get re-approved?

    I got re-approved 2nd NOA2 was 07/19 & last touch was 07/20.

@ 4:32am, NVCResearch sent me email saying they received my petition & was being processed!

  11. My fiance and I are getting married in Hawaii. She has been married once before and I want this one to be better (^_^) So a destination wedding was what I had in mind. If you go to http://www.wedhawaii.com/ you can find extremely cheap ceremony prices and they take care of everything. Also they work with your schedule and are very flexible. Only 1 more month until we get to tie the knot!

Whatever you choose I hope its a good one!

O wonderful idea.. I'm gonna look into this option - I'd LOVE a beach wedding!

  12. No, no, no.......you are k-1, only about 7-10 days at NVC.

As per my USCIS email on 07/11:

"The petition has been requested from the file facility and will be forwarded to the NVC for processing, allow 35 days for this to occur."

As per my NVCResearch email on 07/20:

"Please be advised that the NVC contacted USCIS to locate your approved petition. USCIS has informed the NVC that your petition is en route to the NVC. Once we have received your petition, the appropiate agent will receive further instructions withint 6-8 weeks"

Is this just a standard "email" with standard "time frames" now?

According to USCIS.gov website, my NOA2 was re-approved on 07/19 (initial NOA2 was 04/30) with a last touch date of 07/20. When shall I start calling NVC?

  13. Thank you for everyone's kind words of wisdom!

I have talked to the restaurant we are tentatively booking. And yes, no dates have been confirmed. Because it will be Fall/Winter now, they are NOT booked, making this much simplier! And getting an awesome deal on the Chinese restaurant too!

Flowers - thinking of doing whatever is the "pick of the season" at the Pike Place Market - cheap & beautiful, locally grown too!

Wedding dress - already bought it, just need to make some minor adjustments

Bridesmaid dresses - bought for cheap already, ready to go!

    Tux - will be rented

    Invitations - will be a Do-It-Yourself before I move

Officiant - my best friend is getting licensed, if not.. we'll book someone in Seattle at a closer date!

Ceremony - looking for a garden-type setting or something "wow" in the Fall/Winter season still

It'll be 80-120 guests, fairly small. We both come from rather large families but with the possible short notice, my family in Canada will have a harder time attending, therefore will be a big difference in # attending. Limited friends, no acquitances. Basically family.

I'm not expecting anything fancy. I just don't want to regret not having a proper wedding. I'd rather have a small and simple wedding than no wedding!

  14. I'm in a dilemna & seeking opinion. This is my 1st marriage, 2nd for him. What is people's intake on a destination wedding to say Hawaii or Las Vegas or California.. I am kinda against the court house wedding. Will I regret doing a court house signing papers because I don't get the "walk down aisle" and "bride". I'd like to be able to wear a wedding gown and I'm not into court house now, wedding later. I want 1 wedding date, not various dates. If we do a real local wedding in Seattle, it would be family only, about 100 guests. I am at the NOA2 of my K-1 Fiance Visa and wanting to marry ASAP when I get into the States so I can apply for EAD & AP (90+ yr old Grandparents).

    Siiigh! Decisions..

  15. I know my case was more of an exception and not the rule... but for the last couple of months I was posting how awful and slow the NVC was. However, after contacting my congressman I found out that my case was sent to the NRC by mistake (USCIS officer error). I waited (not really I kept calling the NVC, USCIS, and my congressman almost everyday) almost two months, until my congressman notified my that my case was at the USCIS and would be overnighted to the NVC...

Once my case reached the NVC it took less than a three days for them to send it to the embassy.

So, do not wait for the NVC... the problem may be USCIS... Also, the approval time at the NVC stage may be affected upon whether your case is sent by itself, or if it is sent along with multiple cases.

Good luck to you guys... I know how hard it is, but keep up the faith

I am in the same boat as you. 10 weeks in the black hole of NRC! Finally, I got a 2nd NOA2 for 07/19. USCIS said give 35 days for it to reach NVC & then NVC is advising 6-8 weeks for processing! Yucky.. I am praying mine goes fast like yours, 3 days would be beautiful.
