My visa interview took place on the first day I was eligible to be issued a new visa after my home residency requirement. Everything else was set for about a month beforehand, but we had to postpone the interview until that date. So yes, it's perfectly fine to do that. Good luck!

Hi everyone, a quick question now that my POE date is nearing (finally!). At the time of the interview I did not know our future address in the US, and on my sealed envelope cover (with the summary of all my info) my final address is stated to be my husband's P.O. Box, since he is military and had no official address until now that we got a house on base. I know I need to let USCIS know my new address, but how do I go about it? Do I do it online or can I do it when I enter the country at POE?
Thanks for your help!

Nope, no harm in trying. We weren't sure either but decided to try our luck, and were approved
In the end it didn't help us much but we were able to skip a few steps along the way. Good luck!

Once your payment shows as 'paid' on the payment portal you can click on a link next to it that says 'receipt' or something along those lines. It'll give you the option to print it out or send it to your email, and at the bottom of that print out you will see the bar code.

This question was just covered here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/376922-social-security-card-and-working/ .

Notice that you will need to find a US citizen or LPR to co-sponsor you and your children, as your future hubby will most likely not be making that kind of money when he gets out. Good luck on your journey, I hope it all works out for the best!

In Finland, they don't require you to have an interview date set, due to the fact that there are only 3 doctors who perform the medical and therefore you might end up waiting for the medical for longer than the actual interview. The medical results are valid for 6 months I belive, so if Norway's panel physicians allow it, I don't see a problem with it. I suggest contacting the doctors directly and/or the embassy to find out how long it would take to get an appointment in the first place. This may be very Norway-specific stuff, as canadian_wife pointed out, but good luck either way.
Edit: Just now realized you're getting interviewed in Sweden, but still the above applies. Hope some Swedes drop by to chime in!

Please correct me if I am wrong, but the way I understand what the OP just posted is if the beneficiary has adopted children, those requirements must be met. It would be very contradictory to what others have posted above if that were true for the petitioners as well - how would they be able to adopt someone if they were e.g. doing K-1?
Good luck on your journey!

I really wouldn't worry too much about it yet, you will still need to send in the DS-230 and passport copies, so it will get fixed at some point. They also misspelled my second name all through NVC (a typo on their part), and when I emailed them about it they said it'll get fixed once I submit my birth certificate and passport photocopies - at the consulate at the latest. If you were to get an RFE for it, it shouldn't be too hard to correct, and would probably not delay your petition very much.
Good luck, and relax

I am so sorry for your loss. Take it one day at a time... Being a military spouse myself my heart aches for you! I wish you all the best.

Ooops, I might have been too late with my reply, sorry! Let us know how it turns out either way.

I think there was someone else who was just thinking about the same thing... A fellow Finn maybe? Not too sure now. Either way, admitting drug use is a big no-no to immigration (even with no arrests or convictions), and is separately listed on the form for that exact reason. There are several threads about what happens if you admit to it, I suggest you look those up to prepare yourself for what may lie ahead. A 1-year ban has been given to some people, and further interviews after that time is up, although there have been others that have been approved on the spot. Since your husband has not yet signed that part of the DS-230, he still has a chance to fix it. By no means should he try and lie about it, since that may end up in misrepresentation. What embassy are you at? Bringing in a new form might be a good idea and present that when he is asked to sign the form. Hopefully they are more lenient about things like this, I think Mexico, Jamaica and the Philippines are known to be pretty strict on this issue.
Good luck!

Ups. Oh well, we will ask for some tax transcripts then.
Also, do we have to bring the lung X ray with us?
~~~
Ups, nevermind, it seems I got them back, they were lost among the papers.
SaraCa - my cut is big, so I can look a tad in the envelope. Seems to be the home of the initial petition + some of the stuff I brought to the interview (copy of my birth certificate, muy police record ) + the DS forms.
Ok, thanks!
-
What is going to be put in that envelope anyway? The entire file of the petitioner and the beneficiary? Don't mean to hijack the thread!
I am not sure with AOS, but my husband has used a PO Box address all throughout our CR-1 process and that has never been an issue. That may partly be due to him living on base and not having a choice, but still. Hope there will be others to chime in as well, especially if they have more information on Hawaii-specific stuff.
Good luck on your journey!
Glad to see so many people with June interviews! Congrats to all! I have a quick question if anyone happens to have heard/read about this... My husband was deployed for most of the time it took to get us this close to an interview, but now that he's back he can't find the copy of the i-130 packet anywhere. Will this be a problem at the interview? Unfortunately that was the only copy we made back then (foolish, I know) and it got lost somehow while he was gone from the barracks. Everything else is in order, now we're just waiting to get my medical done and we'll have an interview date (we got expedited and will get one right after the medical). I know Finland is an easy interview country, but has anyone been asked to provide/go over etc. anything in their I-130 at the interview?
Thanks so much in advance, really appreciate it. I am getting worried so close to being done altogether
That's for sure! The letters the embassy sends you will also be helpful, and some embassies are more responsive than others so you can always try contacting them if you're absolutely stuck!
Yeah, the Finnish embassy has been really helpful in the past. I'm so happy I get to deal with them, the NVC is such a hassle trying to get a hold of people. Glad Finland is so small, the embassy usually replies within hours since they probably don't even have many people asking for advice
What an awesome day!
LOL...that's sort of what happened to me
You will pay the IV fee at the interview, when they're taking in your documents. If you've submitted your I-864 already, just bring your copy to the interview. You'll also submit the IV documents and anything else they need when you're at the interview. The embassy will process everything.
Haha, thanks! I'm getting pretty stoked now that it's all sinking in
We haven't sent in any forms, since my husband is deployed (which is why we got the expedite), and can't send them until he is back... So the expedite won't be as useful as it could be, but definitely speeds things up once he is back
I just called the NVC and asked about my DS-3032 and my name being wrong on their file and the operator said not worry about any of it, since the Helsinki Embassy has accepted our expedite request and the case will be transferred to Finland in a few days. (!!!! #######!) Awesome, yes, but I'm also a bit confused, it seems we are skipping the NVC stage altogether?? We have already paid the AOS fee, but when do we pay the IV fee then? I've never heard of this happening, so any thoughts? Will all our i-864 and ds-230 documents be processed thru the embassy in a similar way as they would be by the NVC or what? Thanks guys
Thank you
I will worry the entire time!!
She has at least a 3 hour layover (I don't know exactly yet because her person didn't email her the itinerary, is that okay you think? Luckily she can catch another flight if she misses her flight (happened to me in Chicago) but the less stress/mess the better!
Tell her to try and get ahead of at least a few people when they are let out of the plane and she should be fine. I always did that, especially if I was flying in during afternoon rush hours and I was sitting towards the back of the plane rather than the front. Good luck and try not to worry too much
-
I've flown thru Dallas on several occasions, and it's always been very pleasant. The lines have been quite long and have taken a good while, but I've never missed connecting flights, although I've always had plenty of time because I was warned about the lines there... But either way, the staff was always really helpful and finding my way at that (enormous!) airport was never a problem
I'm sure your mom will be fine.
Oh wow...you actually got an agent who could tell you what to send in to fix your name! That's what happened to us, they had my last name wrong and it held up everything until I fixed it. Only they couldn't tell me how to fix it - I just started sending documents to them until something worked. You can send the passport copy over any time to the address they used to send you the email form - just include a note requesting they change your name on file.
Oh no, sorry to hear this happened to you too! Can I just send it over email, or do I need to send it via snail mail? Cuz they just sent the form to me using the NVCInquiry -email address. I need to get on this first thing tomorrow. If I knew how, I'd add here one of those emoticons where they bang their head on a wall or something
Thanks for your advice!
Ugh I guess I'll tag along here too... I got an email from NVC last week stating they are reviewing my correspondance (i.e. the DS-3032), but still nothing. I can't believe why it's taking so damn long! They have my name wrong on the email form they sent me along with the AOS, so I really don't want to mail it in (and sign a form that has my name wrong). The operator refused to fix it, since she said they'll correct it once they get my passport photocopies (which will at this rate be never, since I can't get that bill invoiced lol). That may be an issue, but I don't know what else to do but wait for their decision. It's just a typo on their part, cuz my name was correct all the way up until that point. >
Good luck to everyone, hope no-one else gets stuck like us!
Thanks Saylin and jolusa! And jolusa, relieving to know that, although I would of course prefer all of us getting everything sorted out asap. Good luck
Militray uniform on the day of interview:-)
The interviewer will have the information available that he is active duty, so in that sense I don't know how much more emphasis you want to put on that fact by having him wear the uniform. I guess it can't hurt your case, but I might advise my husband against it... Unless I was worried for some reason. If him wearing it will give you a better peace of mind, go for it. Good luck!
