  1. I think you'll still be approved with just 'Quit' on it. They should know the reason you quit is to move to be with your spouse. If they do deny it because of that reason (which I highly doubt will happen) you could appeal. You can always call them too to find out if you've been approved. I was getting anxious just waiting around wondering if I'd be approved and so I called them just over 3 weeks after I applied and they were able to tell me I was approved. Good luck!

  2. Just wanted to share my experience with EI since I moved to the USA for anyone who has any questions about the process of getting EI:

    1) Came to the USA last August 24, 2012 on an IR1 Visa - temporary Green Card was stamped in my passport and I received my Social Security Number card a little over a week after arriving here.

    2) Applied for EI online on August 25th.

    3) A couple weeks later I received a letter and questionnaire from EI with instructions on next steps. Once I received my SSN, I faxed my ROE (stating 'Quit To Relocate To Be With Spouse in the USA' for reason for quitting my job), a copy of my SSN, green card, etc. to the EI Interstate Office in Kingston, ON.

    4) On September 21, 2012 I called the EI Interstate office to find out if a decision was made and I was informed that I was approved for 36 weeks of EI benefits effective September 9th.

    5) Received my 1st EI payment on September 24th, exactly 1 month after moving here.

All in all a very positive experience with EI. I had to call in every 2nd Friday (always called early in the morning), leave a message on their voicemail with my SIN, telephone # and message that I was calling in my 2-week report, and I usually received a call back by 2:00 p.m. I'd do my report over the phone and my money would be in my Canadian bank account by Tuesday.

  3. I applied for EI 3 weeks ago and so far have faxed back the questionnaire they mailed to me along with a copy of my green card, temporary visa that was stamped on my passport, social security card and record of employment. I still owe income tax and have a payment arrangement with Canada Revenue Agency that I set up a few months ago when I was still living in Canada. Was wondering if anyone was in the same situation when you applied for EI and if so was there any problems? I am assuming that if my EI is approved they will also deduct an amount from every payment made to me to forward to CRA but not sure. This kind of has me worried. I hope my claim doesn't get denied because of this.

  4. I came to the USA last Thursday on an IR1 Visa - so I have my temporary green card in my passport with a stamp in it 'Admitted August 23.' I applied online for employment insurance last Friday, Aug. 24th. I checked off reason for quitting something to the effect of 'following family members' etc. Anyway, at the end of the application it stated no further information was required at this time. Do I not have to send in my ROE's? I found it very strange they didn't ask me to mail them in since my employers wrote in the comments section that I quit to 'follow my spouse to the USA.' Also, what happens next? They have my new USA address. Will they send me something in the mail? Am I supposed to call them? I don't have my SSN yet - it's supposed to arrive here within 3 weeks of POE. However, the customs & immigration officer at POE said I'm eligible to work right now. Do I need to provide them with my SSN before I start collecting if I get approved? If anyone has recently been through this process and can answer any of these questions I would be so grateful. I have read tons of posts in the EI forum and although there is a lot of info I couldn't find anything related specifically to the questions I have. I have worked full-time for the last 8 years and definitely have a lot of hours and quit to move here. Do the claims ever NOT get approved for interstate EI? And if so, for what reasons?

  5. I just faxed in my request for the Compliance Letter from GM for my car. They informed me they will fax it to me this afternoon and send the original in the mail. I was hoping to leave this Wednesday for the USA but doubt I'll have the original by then as I live in a remote community. Does anyone know if the fax is sufficient for crossing the border?

  6. I have my interview in Montreal this Wednesday, August 15. I did NOT do electronic processing and therefore all of my original documents are already in Montreal. When I was sent my letter letting me know when my interview date was, there was a page included with Document Name and Document Status and apparently it looks like the only things I need to bring to my interview are: Montreal Letter, Medical Exam Results in the sealed envelope (which I received a few days ago), Loomis Courier proof of registration, Passport. I have copies of all of my documents that were already sent to Montreal but am missing my copy of my husband's Affidavit of Support. I know they already have the original but should I be worried that I'm missing my copy of it? Also, is there anything else I should bring with me? I read some people have brought past plane tickets, wedding photos, etc. to prove their relationship. Any help you can pass my way would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much!

  7. I just booked my hotel in Montreal for my interview next week. Was wondering what the easiest way to get from the airport to downtown area (Boulevard Rene Levesque) is? This is my first trip to Montreal so any advice would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  8. If anyone has recently applied for Employment Insurance, can you let me know if my employer is supposed to enter code 'K' on my ROE? Code K is Other/See Comments Section. I'm thinking this is the code he needs to enter as well as put something to the effect of 'relocating to the USA to be with spouse.' However, there's also code E (Quit). If anyone knows and can answer this I would appreciate it... thanks!

  9. I am sure the answer to my question is already somewhere in this forum but unfortunately can't find it! I have my interview in Montreal on August 15th for CR1/IR1 Visa. Once I am approved (hopefully), get my documents back from Montreal, and cross into the USA - will I have any sort of document that makes me eligible to apply for work in the USA as well as apply for EI in Canada? I am specifically wondering if I'll have an EAD document when I arrive in the USA and then how long I will have to wait to receive my SSN? I requested that I receive my SSN upon entering the USA but can I go to the SSN office once I'm there and get it sooner? If anyone can answer this question I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you and have a good day everyone.

  10. My interview in Montreal for my CR1 visa is scheduled for August 15th. I just went on the DOS website under the 'Prepare for your visa interview abroad' to register for courier service. I put in the info they wanted (passport # and DOB) and my name popped up. I registered for courier service only as my interview date was already scheduled by NVC. However, it states on my account info page on the DOS site that 'no interview is scheduled.' Should I be concerned? Should I contact them about it? I was able to register for courier service, but the no interview date scheduled has me a bit worried. If anyone can answer my question I would be very grateful.... thanks!

  11. Some good news for my wife and I after a nervous couple of weeks waiting.

Our case has been completed today. Now we wait for an interview date. Medical is scheduled for next week. Perfect timing.

Congratulations.... I called NVC Tuesday evening and they told me my case was completed as of Monday, July 2. Hopefully we all don't have a long wait to hear when our interviews are!

  12. DOS = Department of State

If you click on the second to last link in my signature, you'll find a post with their contact information.

Both NVC and DOS will know when an interview date is scheduled. Your case is still currently at NVC and will remain so until an interview date is scheduled. Once that happens, then your case is forwarded to the consulate/embassy.

Thank you - I will definitely contact either DOS or NVC again early next week and see if they can give me any new info.

  13. Grats on your case complete! You'll find out within a month of your interview date, probably closer to two weeks. Just call NVC and DOS each day if you want to find out right away. Otherwise you can just wait for the email.

DOS? By any chance, do you have their contact #? Also, will the NVC be able to let me know my interview date - I got the impression from the rep I spoke to a couple days ago that they were done with my file and no further info was going to be available. Maybe that was his way of saying 'leave us alone' LOL. Who knows....

  14. I think that's basically what i am meaning, it's the heading of the certified marriage license..no word certificate at all..but calling up the courthouse, it's just the wording, but that's all they issue..unfortunately, we dont have the signatures on that certification, but just plainly the information about our marriage

I just dealt with a similar issue. My husband and I got married in Canada (where I am from) and when the NVC requested all of the documents required (including our marriage certificate) I sent them the one from the parish we were married in called Solemnization of Marriage. I received an email from the NVC stating that I sent them the wrong marriage certificate and that I needed to send them the one from the Land Registry Office in Toronto. I had no idea there were two different certificates. Anyway, I called Land Registry and paid extra money to get 5-day processing so I could get it to the NVC asap. You may have to contact the government dept. or agency that keeps track of marriages in the USA and request it from them. Best of luck to you!

  15. The NVC chick has no idea what she's talking about.

Our interview was scheduled on the third week of April for a June interview. They will schedule interviews all month long. Just keep calling to see when they have a date for you. Look at timelines that are about the same as yours and it will give you an idea of when you will get an interview assigned. It takes about three weeks from Case complete to when they assign and interview date. You have a very good chance of getting an August date.

I called the NVC last night and was told that it takes 20 days from the time they received my document they were waiting for (my marriage certificate) before they look at it.... grrrrr..... I hope they look at it before then!! Should I call them again the beginning of next week? I know they received it on Mon., June 25th as I tracked it through Canada Post. They already have all my other documents - they were only waiting for my marriage certificate. Do you know if NVC schedules my interview at the Montreal Consulate or does Montreal actually schedule it?

  16. Does anyone have an August interview scheduled at Montreal Consulate? I am really hoping to get mine in August. I spoke to a representative at NVC on Friday, June 15th and she informed me that they were just finishing scheduling the July interviews - she said they only schedule interviews the first two weeks of each month - I'm assuming she meant that between June 1 - 15 the NVC were scheduling interviews for all of July. I'm hoping this means that between July 1 - 15 they will be scheduling interviews for August... keeping my fingers crossed.

  17. Although you may be new, it's forum etiquette not to jump into someone else's thread with unrelated questions.

    1. You'll be interviewing at Montreal as you're closer to that consulate than Vancouver.

    2. Please read the guides. I filed for a CR-1 visa, not a K1 like yourself.

Thanks for the info..... guess it will be Dr. Seiden's and Associates for the medical.

  18. Do we have a choice where we can have our Toronto medicals for CR1/IR1? I had only heard of Dr. Seiden & Associates and their website states that they charge $300 for the medical. I have noticed some people on here have had it done at Medisys. Does anyone know what it costs? I checked their website but no info on cost. Thanks!
