I always use FedEx or DHL for international services. The USPS is hit or miss for sure!

I would say 6-8 weeks is an average time based my study of some recent petitions through Kiev. You can look at our timeline as an example, as we had a long NOA2 to NVC time, but NVC forwarded it to Kiev very quickly. So, it varies with each case, for sure.
Gary's comments about calling the Kiev embassy are correct. Calling once a week on Monday is the best method, as I spent extra money calling every few days with no faster response. It costs $12 for 8 minutes.

My understanding is that you get in the visitors' line. That is my plan when I bring Lena through in about 4-6 weeks.

I just used DHL to send my documetns as they were slightly cheaper and faster than FedEx or UPS. Don't trust the post office for sure.

NVC uses DHL to send the file to the embassy, but they may transmit information electronically also. You can contact the Department of State (DOS) at 1-202-663-1225 to know when the embassy has logged the information and is ready for you to schedule the interview. My file is in route to Kiev now, so hopefully next week, I can contact the embassy.

markabianchi, I am interested in this also, so please give us an update when you schedule it. I should be able to schedule our interview sometime next week once the embassy has the file.

I would recommend getting your Senator involved after the 5 month mark. It might not help, but it cannot hurt. I have read many postings where Congressional intervention did speed the process up.

You might consider flying through Frankfurt as there is a 5:30 AM flight out of Kiev, a 2 hour layover and then on to Houston. This makes for a long day, but solves the problem of having to get another visa to stay in a hotel overnight.
This is what I am planning to do.

I agree with Phil's comment concerning the vaccinations. I am finding it difficult to find a civil surgeon that can do all the vaccinations. Certainly, I did not think this would be a problem in a large city like Houston, but it has been a challenge.
