  1. This is what N400 says:

Part 8. Information About Your Employment and Schools You Attended

List where you have worked or attended school full time or part time during the last 5 years. Provide information for the complete time period. Include all military, police, and/or intelligence service.

Begin by providing information about your current and most recent employment, studies, or unemployment, if applicable. Provide the locations and dates where you worked, were self-employed, were unemployed, or have studied during the last 5 years. If you worked for yourself, write "self-employed." If you were unemployed, write "unemployed."

In my opinion, you can enter occupation as "stay at home mom." "Date to" should be the date you're sighing the N400, and "date from" should be 5 years going back from the date you're signing the N400.

    Good luck

  2. I quoted the annual income from the total entitlements block of the LES. Provided copies of the current LES, federal return, and W-2 as supporting documents for the I-134, and there were no problems.

However, for the AOS stage, the I-864 is more detailed and requires you to quote the AGI from your last 3 years income return. Good luck to you!

  3. I posted in the military info section with specifics to this, but for general purposes, who can ask me for my and my son's greencard number?

My husband's son, who I've met a handful of times is joining the navy, and apparently needs this info. I'm not sure that makes sense, as shouldn't they have access to that information just in the background check? They didn't ask for our social security card numbers but I'm just a little hesitant to give out some information that maybe I shouldn't??

Your husband's son is taking an oath to defend the United States against all enemies both foreign and domestic. He's filling forms requiring him to disclose such information for a security check. It's the same Government(Homeland Security & State Department) that gave you the green card, but a different agency (Department of Defense) asking for the number. I understand your concern, but don't be worried about that.

  4. My husband's son, is joining the navy, and I guess he needs to put down my information on his application, even though I've only met him a handful of times. They want my greencard number and my date of birth and the same for my son. I'm extremely uncomfortable with giving that information out without knowing if I am even allowed to, I do know well enough not to give out my social security number, but who can ask for our greencard info?

Enlisting in the military is an elaborate paperwork. It is required that your enlisting son discloses your status and "A" number and stuff. So don't be alarmed. Some sensitive military jobs require security clearance, so it's normal. Speak with the Navy Recruiter doing your son's paperwork to allay any fears. Good luck to your son in serving our country.

    @shane22, here's a link to a similar topic. hope it helps: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/365750-husband-doesnt-want-to-file-papers/

  6. I Was about to ask the same question when i saw yours. sorry i cant answer ur question but i do have a question for u-HOW DO U PRINT YOUR MAGIC JACK CALL RECORDS?

    wife2be,

To print your call records, log into your magic jack account; under ACCOUNT tab select CONTACTS AND CALL LOGS. If u are using MagicJack Plus, make sure your device is connected directly to your computer when u make calls. call records don't show if you are connected to your wireless router/ power source. i learned that the hard way.

And of course print out your call records periodically because it the older logs disappear with time.

  7. Good morning good people of visa journey. My case is now schedule for interview but I made a mistake and put my sisters daughter Down as my daughter. I want to take it out before it poses a problem to my case. My question is can I do that by inforpass or just wait till the interview day to correct it.thanks for the brilliant minds.

At the interview, the USCIS officer will go through your N400 application with you and update it if things have changed. this is where u need to show evidence about the the "daughter" status. have solid proof, show documentation. Good Luck!

  8. if she'll be back in Philippines this year, you'll want to use that for her address. case will be sent to the consulate where u state as her residence. if she doesn't have legal residence in Canada by the time the interview is scheduled (if u use Canada as her address), I'm afraid you'll run into issues. all the best ;)

  9. I am a permanent resident of Japan too and processed my K-1 there. She can have her interview done in Japan or China, whichever is more comfortable for her. If she currently lives in Japan, I suggest you deal with Tokyo embassy.

It's a question of where she has legal residence (as you will provide on the I-129F), which is Japan. When your I-129F is approved it will be forwarded to the US Consulate in Japan which has jurisdiction over her residence. If she had lived for 6 months or more in China since attaining the age 16, be prepared to get a Police Certificate from China (and probably with English translation) when the time comes.

Good luck on your K-1 visa journey :)

  10. In my experience, military duty/deployments moves you around too many times, it only helps me to use my home of record as a reliable point of contact. I think the address you'll provide on the DS-156 and DS 230 forms are for documentation and accountability purposes at this stage, so it'll make sense to be consistent on all forms whether or not you are actually going to live there. Think of it as where Immigration can contact you when u arrive in the States. You'll make the necessary change of address on AR-11 with USCIS when u enter the States before/after marriage and moving into military housing, etc.

I hope it this clarifies it a bit for you :)

    don't stress yourself about

also, it turns out that his "home of record" address is not even his parents' place but their house in New York that doesn't even receive mail of any kind :| so I don't think I can use it

  11. I am very confused and can not find the answer anywhere on-line.

My fiance is a US citizen and is a US army soldier. Right now he lives in the barracks, but once I arrive in the States and we get married we will be provided housing by the Army.

So, I don't know the address where I will be staying in the States, since we'll only get the house once we're married.

What should I list as the address where I will be staying in the US in question 24 of DS-156? I'm afraid that if I say "none" they will not accept it.

I can list his parents' address- but that's in virginia, and we are most likely to stay in Monterey, CA.

Also, on DS 230 for question 10, I need to give the address in the US if known. Since I don't know it yet, should I say "not yet known"? If I give his parents' address in DS 156 and no address in DS 230 will that cause problems?

I will really appreciate your help as I am totally lost. Thank you!

You can use your finance's "home of record" (the home address he lists on his military file). check with your fiance on that. all the best :)

  12. I am filling out N-400 and am really confused on the name part.

My wife and I got our green cards in 2006 and the first names on them are spelled without hyphen. Our Taiwanese passports have names with hyphen. My social security card has my name with hyphen while hers has it without one. Ya. It's all over the places.

We've been using the ones with hyphen when filling out papers like tax returns and school information.

My questions is what should I put in part 1-A in N-400? I know 1-B has to be identical to GC so it has to be without hyphen. But do I just use it as my current legal name in 1-A? Or do I have to put the hyphenated one in 1-A and fill 1-D for name change?

    Thanks.

hey, i had the same issues with my naturalization. in part 1-A use your legal name (with the hyphen), then in part 1-B fill in as it appears on your GC. you don't need a name change. what's important is the spelling and name order. eventually when u get ur Certificate of Naturalization, it will have no hypens; and since u have to update your SS card, the new one will reflect your name on your Naturalization certificate (without the hyphen). I still maintain my hyphens in my legal name regardless. i live with it just fine. Good luck to you!

  13. i would highly recommend a courier service like DHL, FedEx or UPS so it can be tracked. Use a trusted person/ friend/ relative of your fiance in Nigeria to receive document and turn them in to the police headquarters having jurisdiction over the issuance of the police report. Have that person return to pick it up when it's ready, and send it to your fiance in Senegal by courier as well. hope this helps

  14. Can I send copies of the tax returns, rather than originals? My co-sponsors filed taxes in Puerto Rico, but since taxes there are mainly filed in Spanish then I'll have to get them translated either way, and there's no way for them to get the originals in Puerto Rico.

copies of tax returns (1040) and W-2 s are acceptable, and so are tax transcripts. you can request your last 3 years tax transcripts from irs thru link: https://sa2.www4.irs.gov/irfof-tra/start.do it takes up to 10 days to get it in the mail. Good luck!
