Well, my wife made it! She had her oath ceremony this morning and is now a U.S. citizen!!! Thank you to all of you for the support and advice along the way!!!

Does anyone know anything about guests at the oath ceremony? I have seen some videos online, so I am assuming a guest can be present with a video camera.
Other than obvious space allowed, is there any limit to the number of guests who can watch? I'm thinking myself, parents, and a baby...but is 4 too many guests?

Also, Visaqna: Are you having the oath in Houston or San Antonio???
Actually, neither! We had biometrics in Houston, interview in San Antonio, and now the oath ceremony is scheduled for a small town near us! At least 1) it is much closer to us than Houston or San Antonio, and 2) it is scheduled very soon...this coming Thursday!

I wanted to share a great app available free on the app store.
Its called US Citizenship 2012. Its published by Purple Buttons LLC
I find it to be a great study tool. Upon start up, it will prompt input of localized information and the questions and answers will reflect this e.g. state senator, state rep, governor, capital etc.
The app works in a flash card format but there are practice tests you can dabble in.
The only downside is there is an ad bar (u can purchase an ad-free install for $5 but why bother).
Thank you for posting about this. We found the same app on the Google Play Android app store. On the Android store it is called "Free US Citizenship Test". Note that the app says something about being for 2011 when you install it, but the developer has indeed updated it to 2012. The first time you run it you need to know what state you are in (duh) and the congressional district you are in so that the app will know who your governor, state senators, and local representative are.
The app is slightly confusing to start using, but after that it is super easy and VERY helpful! My wife used it to help prepare for her test, and it worked great.

You say that the on-line status is that the "interview" is set, or the "oath ceremony"? As you can see from our status, my wife passed her interview in January and we are still waiting for an oath date. As the poster said, it depends on your local office and if you are doing a name change.
Just as a note about what the online status says...my wife's online status is still showing "Testing and Interview", but she received her oath letter yesterday! The online status never moved to "Decision" or "Post Decision Activity" or "Oath Ceremony".

Quick question for those of you who have just passed the interview step. When checking the status of your case online at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do, did your case immediately move into the 'Decision' state, or is it still showing that it is in the 'Testing and Interview' state? My wife was told she passed yesterday, but her online status still shows her in the 'Testing and Interview' state.
I just wanted to give an update about the answer to my own question.
As of this morning, the online status of my wife's N400 application at https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/Dashboard.do is still showing that it is in the "Testing and Interview" stage. As I previously wrote, her interview was this past Monday and she was told she passed it.
Well, yesterday she received her oath letter, and she is indeed scheduled for her oath ceremony this coming Thursday, August 23. I'm not sure why the online status system is 3 steps behind, but we're happy she got her oath letter!

My wife got her green card through work. About a year after that, we got married.
We sent in her N-400 about 2 and a half months before our 3rd anniversary date of marriage, which was about 3 years 9 and a half months after she got her green card.
They took the application no problem -- it is definitely ok to send it in 90 days before you are eligible for citizenship. So, if you are applying based on marriage, you take whichever date is later -- green card start date, or marriage date, then add 3 years, then subtract 90 days, and you should be able to apply then.
If you aren't applying based on marriage, then it is 90 days before the 5 year date since you got a green card.

After my wife passed her test/interview, as they were scheduling her for the oath ceremony, they told her they'd like her to give some sort of speech at it.
Is this something everyone does...i.e. everyone just gets up there as they are taking the oath and says a couple of things about being happy, etc., or is it something else? What are they wanting her to do?
Whew--at least this whole process is almost over!

Ok, just now back by a computer so I can write more. The interview was apparently super simple. They didn't ask for anything in support of our marriage...not my passport, not our marriage license, not bank statements, not tax returns...nothing! Of course we had included copies of all those things with the original application.
They pretty much asked her the 6 questions, did the little writing test, and asked a few questions about her home country. Poof--recommended for approval, and oath ceremony to be on August 23. They said that "the lady" who normally prints out their oath letters wasn't in today, so they are going to mail it to her. That sounded odd to me, but hey, whatever works for them.

Had my interview this morning... Didn't get seen until well after my appointment time. Once I was called, the IO went through all my forms confirming the information... I got questioned about traffic violations... Had to speak and write a sentence in English which I passed. Then I had 6 questions which I also passed. At the end, the IO said I passed the interview but a decision could not be made as my file was too thick and they wanted to review it more. Quite disappointing really.
Was there anything special about your file which made it "thick"? My wife's file with just the bare minimum stuff (3 years of tax returns, copies of marriage certificate, etc.) looks thick to me!

My spouse's parent entered the U.S. to become a permanent resident on July 5. Their green card arrived a little over a week ago. However, their SS# card hasn't arrived. Did they misunderstand something about the entry process, and are they supposed to apply for a SS card after receiving the green card? They thought it was part of the paperwork they already did and that it would just be sent to them.
Is there a way to check on the status of this?

Oh Im so excited for those of you that just had your interviews! A couple of you peeps have interviews tomorrow so best wishes and keep us posted! My hubbys interview is on Thursday so we are excited about that... and we start on our 9 day off work vacation then, plus our 6yr anniversary is Sunday. We're going to celebrate in Galveston for a couple of those days! yay!
PalmTreeGurl, can you confirm that both your hubby's biometrics and his interview are in Houston? My wife had her biometrics in Houston (much closer to us) but then her interview is in San Antonio (WAY far away) for some reason. We can't figure out why they did this.

One of my spouse's parents just entered the U.S. after being approved for a green card. We have heard conflicting things about how long it takes the green card to be delivered to our address after that entry -- we have heard 4 to 6 weeks, 30 to 90 days, and 4 to 6 months.
The problem is they need to return to their home country two months from now. How long does it usually take for the green card to show up after entering the U.S.? And, if it takes longer than 2 months from now and they have to leave before the green card shows up in the mail, what happens when they need to come back in (and are a legal permanent resident but don't have the green card in hand)?

being curious because i sent my original divorce decree w/ n-400 application.
does anyone know the website that i can order online a copy of divorce decree. state of texas

You probably need to go to (or call) the county courthouse wherever your divorce degree was filed. They can look it up for you and get you a copy.

Is it possible that she "passed the tests of english and U.S history and government" as was checked on the form, but was unable to answer some of the other interview questions the officer asked her?
Very sorry about the frustration--hopefully you can get a straight answer from them. It upsets me so much to see all the trouble people have to go through who are trying to play by the rules and immigrate legally!

Welcome and congratulations! I am due around the same time and I also have to drive a long way to get to the office, I know how you feel! I'm worried about when they will schedule the oath ceremony, I could be in the same situation as you are. Don't worry about her interview being later than the others you see in the list, they schedule them when they have slots available and sometimes this takes a while. Unfortunately you won't be able to move the interview forward, all you can do is postpone it until a later date. How close is her due date to the interview?
She's due about 2 weeks before her interview date. I guess we'll just stick with that interview date and perhaps cancel/postpone it later depending on how things go!
Does anyone know what our Field Office is? We thought it was Houston since that's where the biometrics were done, but now the interview has been scheduled for San Antonio which is much farther away from where we live. We can get to Houston in about an hour, but San Antonio is about a 4 hour drive.

Adding my wife's info under 'visaqna' below. Not sure if I know what the Field Office is--her biometrics were in Houston, but her interview is in San Antonio. ?? Also, her interview date is way later than everyone else on this list. Is that some indication of a problem?
Finally, she is pregnant and due shortly before the interview date. What are the odds of moving up the interview date? San Antonio is a several-hour drive from our house, and I don't think she/baby will be in any condition to drive that far and back shortly after birth...and her doctor doesn't want her travelling out of town for at least 2 weeks before her due date. We're hoping not to have to ask for a much later interview date!

We're in a bit of a weird situation and are hoping our outcome will be the same.
I am a U.S. citizen. My spouse has a green card but is not yet a U.S. citizen (2 more months before can apply). My spouse has a sibling in the U.S. who is already a citizen. That sibling has been the petitioner for their father.
Their father is married, but it is their step-mother. She became their step-mother when the sibling was 19, so there is no way for that sibling to be a petitioner for her. My spouse can be a petitioner, but only after getting U.S. citizenship of course.
We are hoping the green card will be approved for the father even though nothing is in process yet for his wife.

If you read the US Embassy site in Minsk it states quite clearly that all visa interviews will be held in Warsaw. The only exception would be a person over 80yo ( I think that is the correct number). The elderly can make an appointment in Minsk, but I would confirm that. Everything needs to be Translated in to English, not Polish but only send copies not originals. Polish is only accepted for Polish citizens. But bring the originals with you to the interview.
I assume you are looking to bring over your wife's parents? And I further assume you got married at ZAGS otherwise you would have been familiar with this. The Warsaw Embassy can be a a 1-2 day trip depending upon your parents location. AND, they will need a visa from the Polish Embassy to transit to Poland. This can take up to 2 weeks so make sure that this is included in your timing. If they live in or near Minsk they can go directly to the Polish Embassy there and shorten the time. Otherwise they will need to use a local agency.
You're close to right. But, it is actually a sibling of my spouse who already has U.S. citizenship who is the petitioner. I have no idea what ZAGS is!
How confident are you about being able to send copies of documents? The DS-230 instructions state to send originals plus the translations, and I have seen some postings here about interviews in other countries where certified copies were not accepted...but then there are other pages on the internet which says that it is not recommended to send originals...so confusing.
The good news is that the applicant already does some work in Poland and travels regularly there so has a visa to at least get there for the interview.

Applicant is a Belarusian citizen living in Belarus.
I-130 has been approved, so now we're filling out the DS-230. We have a few questions about the official documents which must accompany the DS-230.
First, do originals of things like a birth certificate have to be sent, or is a certified copy acceptable?
Second, we are wondering about translation of documents. Because there is no immigrant visa processing in a U.S. embassy in Belarus, we believe the interview would end up being held at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, Poland based on this page: http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/info/info_1302.html#minsk although we have heard of some people having their interviews in Kiev, Ukraine. Does anyone have any personal experience with which of these embassies interviews might be held at, and is there a possibility to choose?
Our understanding is that official documents must either be translated into English OR be in the language of the country where the interview will be held. So, if the interview were in Kiev, Russian-language documents would suffice, right? If the interview were in Poland, the documents would have to be translated either to English or Polish, right?
Any guidance is appreciated.
