  1. The instructions start off by saying: "Complete and return immediately DS 230 I". So my initial reaction is to fill that form out solely and bring it to them right away, however it then tells me to gather birth cert, passport, police certificate, photographs etc and to arrange for a medical.

Do I need to wait until I have gathered everything required for the interview before I can give them the DS 230 I form, or am I meant to give that to them ASAP and go gather the material while they give me an interview date.

I find this very confusing and it doesn't help that the instructions they sent me have the text worn off parts of certain pages. :/

  2. For my K1 visa application, before I can be given an interview date, they require a host of forms including a police certificate. However I am confused about how to get one. I was planning on just going down to the local station and asking but I don't want to mess this up or be waiting weeks.

Any experiences with this? I feel stupid for not knowing this would be required as I could have got it weeks ago instead of waiting for the embassy to contact me.

  3. As my fianceé is unemployed, her grandfather has agreed to co sponsor me. He is retired but we are certain he has enough income as well as assets.

Do you foresee any problems with a retired co-sponsor?

Also, what evidence must be given with the form? If he were to list assets, real estate and income from stock, would he have to get evidence for all of these things?

And finally, how many tax returns must he submit?

    Thank you for any help.

  4. Every time I check the timeline estimate for NOA2 it gets further and further away and every day on here we read about people waiting so long. We filed on June 1 and the estimate we were given for NOA2 was late October, then it said November, now it says December. Do you think for people filing now and in the last few months that we will be waiting even longer than those who filed in February and are still waiting?

And why is the waiting time increasing and increasing?

  5. So in June we made the first step in the K1 process and sent off the I-129F. On our timeline it estimated a NOA2 by October 15, however I logged in today to check the forums and also checked our timeline out of curiosity and now it says November 25-30. What does it base this off and why is it estimating it to take over a month longer than it originally did?

It was actually quite sad to read, I pray it doesn't take that long, we're finding life really hard at the moment, just so desperate to be together.

  6. So we are about to start our K1 process but we are worried that we may be lacking with proof of an ongoing relationship. We have tons of photos together and boarding passes and so on to prove we've met etc. but to prove it's ongoing is a lot more difficult. Most days we text chat on Skype and the odd time we'll E-Mail each other. So far we've included 2 full E-Mails, a screenshot of her inbox with all the E-Mails I have sent her this month, 3 screenshots showing us on a Skype call on 3 separate occasions and current duration of said calls, with the windows clock open to show time and date of the calls and finally a print of her cell phone usage which shows the number of international texts, however it doesn't show what number they were sent to, so this could be useless.

Do you think this will be enough to prove an ongoing relationship? If not, what more can we do?

  7. Yes... While there are MANY successful stories here, of people going to visit their other halves while the K1 is being processed... there is a BIG chance to get rejected at the airport. If you DO get rejected, it will NOT interfere with your K1.... so there's a 50/50 chance. They might let you in with the standard questioning, they might reject you on the sport, they could take you into secondary questioning and determine YES or NO there. There's no certainty blush.gif

So, it's a risk. But, it's up to you.

    Where are you from?

Hm, that is a shame, it makes immigration even scarier than usual in that case. If anything it doesn't really make sense, why would someone try to stay illegally when they've already started the K1 process? Oh well. The fact you call it a risk is worrying. :/

    I am from Dublin, Ireland.

  8. Thanks for all the replies. So once the K1 is started, the immigration officers at airports will be aware that I am currently trying to get the K1 so they will scrutinise my tourist entry more? All I've ever had to do when entering the US is say how long I was planning to stay and how much cash I had on me.

I don't yet have a timeline as we've yet to start, we hope to do so in the next few days after we sort out a co-sponsor. The reason I made this thread is that we are both very worried about not being able to see each other because we are required to do something at home but I guess we just need to start first and go from there. For now I will look at people's timelines. :]

  9. Is it possible to see each other while the K1 process is going? If it is permitted then how would myself and my partner go about organising something because we would both need to be in our respective countries at certain points and we'd hate to miss something as a result of not being at home.

Did any of you see your partner while the K1 was in process? Do most people go the 6-8 months without seeing each other?

  10. Hi, there :) I'm 19 in a week and my fiance is 21. I kind of worried about this too, but everyone said it shouldn't be a problem. I completely get you on thinking it would be so much easier if you guys were 10 years older. Not just for this whole visa process, but for dealing friends and family. Not everyone is supportive and says we're too young so that's kind of a drag. It's worth it, though. I'm pretty sure you two don't want to wait another ten years to be together. This site is so supportive and informative, it'll make the process a lot easier. We only applied about a month ago, but I've already had a bunch of help and support and am pretty confident that if anything goes wrong, it won't be because of our age.

About a co-sponsor, as far as I'm concerned, they just want to make sure you're not going to be a cost to the US government so with a co-sponsor, it should go smoothly.

I really do wish you two the best of luck!

Dealing with friends and family is a worry for us too. We know at the end of the day it's our life and no one will try stop us and in fact our families will likely be very helpful, but still we dread the day we have to break the news!

Good luck with your application. :]

  11. I have been with my girlfriend for almost a year, she is a US citizen and I live in Ireland. We met online in December 2010 and since then have met multiple times over the last year in both our countries. Wanting to be together, we have looked at our options. It is likely that in the future, possibly near future we will be applying for a K1 in order for me to move to the USA to be with her. We don't want to run into any roadblocks down the line that we could have ironed out in the present so I have some questions.

She is 20 and I am 22. Will our age be a problem? Sometimes we worry that it would be far easier if we were 10 years older as we are both young and look even younger than our age. There is always the fear that our relationship would be dismissed because of this no matter what evidence we provided.

Another thing is that she has never worked and wont be working for at least another few months as she and her family finalise moving to a new state. We would likely use a co-sponsor in one of her parents but even then would she still need to have a history of work or be currently working at the time of the application? Is it possible for the K1 to go through if she has never worked and is unemployed or must we look to getting her working ASAP?

One last thing, do any of my finances matter? Does my income or lack of have any effect on the application. I was on unemployment benefit before, will that be an issue?

Thank you for any replies it would be of great help to us as all the K1 info can be overwhelming and sometimes even contradictory between certain sites.
