  1. please post links when "quoting".

I would post a link but I was quoting a document I had been given at the college I was interested in.

At Saddleback college (the school I was looking into) they told me that these same rules apply to all California pubic and private universities and colleges, it is a state law. I realize that you can study as a non-resident but I think that it is either necessary for you to be a US citizen or for you to have the appropriate student visa..

I haven't looked into online courses yet, thanks for the reminder. I'll consider my options.

  2. Hello VJers,

I would like to give you some information in regards to getting a License.

Once you arrive in the US you can get a license as soon as you have a SSN. The only problem is that this license will expire 90 days after you entered the US. You will not be able to renew the license until your adjustment of status has been granted.

If my information isn't entirely accurate please correct me. I just found all of this out today and wanted to let you all know.

    Peace

P.S. Remember to make an appointment prior to going to the DMV, it will save you some time..

  3. To my surprise, yesterday I found out that in California you cannot attend university/college unless they can establish residency, this means: (and I quote)

Under California law, a person who is married or 18 years of age, or older may establish residency if the person

    1. Is a US citizen or is under an INS status that allows them to establish domicile, AND

    2. Has lived in California continuously for at least one year and one day before the semester begins, AND

    3. Can prove that they intend to make California his/her permanent home with concurrent relinquishment of the prior legal residence.

I wanted let people know so that if they were planning on studying when they made it to the US they could at least not be surprised when they find out they cannot..

    Peace

  4. I know there will be another interview and so on but I was wondering while I wait for my EAD and eventually AOS to be approved what will 'prove' that I am lawful. The stamp on my passport says that my visa is valid until the beginning of the next month.. So? I need to do things like renew my driver license, will the USCIS send me a provisional form or card of some kind? Something I can show the DMV so they extend my driver License?

    Thanks!

  5. I was given a sealed envelope when I had my medical prior to my K1 interview. Inside that envelope I found an xray of my chest and the applicants (my) copy of the DS-3025. The DS-3025 states whether your vaccination history is complete or incomplete, you should have it. If you don't have this document I believe you have to take the DS-693 and have your fiancee's blood tested by a civil surgeon to see what vaccination she does or doesn't need.

    Peace

  6. First the good news, I got married just over a week ago and am filing my AOS (almost there *____* ). The whole K1 mess is truly nothing in light of the joy and love you will be able to share with your special person. I have come to think of it as the best possible premarital counseling, a real blessing.

While working on the petition and all that I stumbled upon this youtube channel and I found it to be very clear and helpful. He has several different videos that will most certainly help you.

    Here's the link:

  7. Hello everyone,

I am filing my AOS at the moment and I was wondering what I should documents I should file with my I-864 affidavit. So far I have a letter from my wife's employer stating that she works for her company and how much she makes, I plan on getting her last pay stubs (how many?) and her tax returns for the past 3 years. What else is needed?

Also, does this form have to be notarized?

    Thanks in advance,

    Peace

  8. Hello again,

Believe me, I am not obssesed with insurance. Even though moving to the US from a pseudo-socialist country like Italy scares me a little.

I will need to buy a car after I arrive, It will be one of the first things I have to do because my father is planning on coming to my wedding and staying in the US, travelling and etc. for a good while before and after the wedding. He told my fiancé and I that if we buy another car (my fiancé has a car that she uses all the time to go to work) and let him use it for the amount of time he is inthe US, he would give us the approx 1200$ he would have to spend on car rent. Therefore it would be nice to take advantage of thise discount.

Now, the new and old cars (they are actually both going to be old but that is another point.) would be owned by my fiancé, I need to know whether car insurance can cover me and if I can get a california driver's license before I get married, simply with my SSN.

    Thank you so much.

    Ciao

  9. Ok,

I signed up to travel insurance for 2 months before I get married. I called them, explained my situation and they were like, we don't care if you weren't a tourist as long as you are a resident in italy. In italy, changing residency is an official sort of thing, you have to go to an office and tell them and so forth.. Therefore, I believe after I get married and etc, I will have to go to the italian embassy/consulate and declare my change of residency..

    Thanks for your help.

    ciao
