  1. My fiancee has just received her k1 visa and will be leaving for the US shortly. Our plan is for her to attend community college for the first year and get in state rates at Northern Virginia Community College. We will be married right away and will have a marriage certificate before she applies. The school has sent me the following:

To be considered for in-state rates you would need to provide the following documentation to the Student Services office in person.

    1. Marriage certificate

    2. The student's visa

    3. VA driver's license

    4. VA vehicle registration

    5. Last year's VA state taxes

My question would she have to apply for a student visa if she is legally here? I hope this person has made a mistake does anyone know about this? We really dont have time i dont think to go thru a student visa process to make it in time.

    Thanks Ron and Nga

  2. Depends on what consulate.

My fiancee is from Vietnam and we got NOA2 in 90 days (fast). Consulate is taking about 110 days for us so it varies but we are still faster than most people I have read about.

  3. I need some help. Everything was going so smooth for us until we hit the US consulate. Our NOA2 was completed 1/31/2012 and hard copy one week later. We never recieved the packet3 even after we emailed them and finally she just sent in the info without the letter since they never responded to email or phone calls. They received the information for packet3 on Mar 7th and they acknowledged it. April 12 still no packet4 and i called the department of state numbe in DC and after a long wait finally go hold of someone. They said they had received everything and we would be contacted for the appointment. We never did get packet3? I do feel better they now know we are alive but i notice people who got noa2 after us already have the appointment? I think ours is a simple case in that I am a federal employee so income and support are not an issue. We have met each other 3 times over a two year period. She currently has a business visa and has been to the US twice to see me.

Anyone had experience with this problem? They only give you a form letter answer to your question if you contact them by email. Is the US consulate in Vietnam just not well run? I am about to contact my congressman if we dont hear something soon. I do realize some have had a much harder time than we have but the lack of contact is crazy.

    Thanks Ron

  4. I did use Rapid Visa service. I do think they helped me keep from making a couple of minor mistakes and being a fed have some idea how the government works. I labeled everything very clearly and had all document put in a file and punched so nothing could fall out. We both have never been married and she had been to the US twice and I had been to Hanoi once over a 1.5 year period after first meeting.
