  1. Hi community,

    I need some guidance.

I'm a greencard holder. My green card will expire on 2023.

2 years ago I applied for a permit of reentry because I had to do a project for a non profit outside of the US.

The pandemic happened, my permit of reentry expired on Nov 2021 and I'm still outside of the United states.

I'm taking care of a family member who has been very sick. I'm realistically speaking I will be able to come back to the states around august 2022

I will stay for 3 months and then I will have to come back again to keep the project with the non profit.

    My questions are:

    1. will I have issues by reentering the country with  my green card and my expired permit of reentry?

    2. Will I be able to apply for another permit of reentry during those 3 months that I will be there?

Thank you so much for your time and your replies!

  2. Hi, I'd like to get some insight about my situation.

Me and my wife got married on August 2018 in California. I applied for the green card on November 2019

On Feb 2020 I received my work permit and temporary social security

We had the Interview on September 2020

After that I haven't heard back from USCIS, not a single notification. I'm concerned about my process now. Any ideas??

    Thank you!

Google what documents are accepted to enter Spain. I'm fairly sure you will not find the "re-entry permit" to be one of them.

In the past I read somewhere that this permit of reentry can be used as a passport in other countries. Hence the question. You're right I'll check with the Spain embassy. Still any other people with different replies will be helpfull :)

If this is truly a re-entry permit, meaning you are already a green card holder, and you want to leave the US for more than 1 year, then the answer is no, you do NOT need to wait for the re-entry permit to leave the US. Straight from the horse’s mouth:

Yes! I've been a green card holder for 6 years. So, having my biometrics taken (which was the most important thing in the application) I can leave the country without the permit and have someone bring it to me to my home country? do they normally send this permit by mail? or do I have to pick it up personally at an USCIS office?

  5. Hi all!

I'd like to get some answers and ideas from you, I'll really appreciate it.

So, I applied for form I-131 reentry permit on Sept 29th 2019, I did my biometrics today October 29th 2019. I also asked to expedite the process.

My mother is having surgery back in my home country and I really need to be there, that's why I expedited the process too. I'm wondering, do I need to leave the country with this permit?

Will they send it to my mailing address or do I have to pick it up? because if they mail it, I can have my brother send it to me to my home country.

Any information will be much appreciated

  6. These are the facts

I applied for citizenship, at the moment that I applied I was living in California. I had to leave the country due to family emergency, while I was out My roommate told me I received a letter with the biometrics appointment. I sent them a letter to change the appointment.

a couple of months pass and my roommate sublets our apartment, I'm still abroad due to my mother being ill.  The person who is subletting returned all the letters to the postoffice marking them as "not living here anymore" (obviously this person is nuts!!)

So, I don't know what the letters are about, and I'm finally coming back to the states to fix all this up. Finally I changed my address to a new one and I let USCIS Know online, but this was just after all this letters where sent back to sender.

Could you please give me suggestions on how to approach this? I've always been very transparent with every letter I sent to USCIS. IS there a chance that I will lose the chance of citinzenship? also the fee that I paid?

Thank you very much before hand for your replies!

    This community is amazing!

  7. Hi everyone,

I comply with all the requirements for applying to citizenship, the only thing I feel intrigued about is that I'll have to leave the country for 5 months due a proyect I'll be doing in my home country.

I have my residency in California where I'll still have my apartment, hence my mail address.

Is there a way I can do the biometrics and interview in the Embassy of Ecuador, my home country?

thank you for the answers in advance, they're well appreciated

    Cheers

  8. I got married in good faith, I have a lot of things to prove it. Right now we are living separately she's in Pennsylvania, I'm living in North carolina. My green card expires August 3rd of this year. North carolina state requires to be 1 year living separately to be able to file for a divorce, we've been only separated for 8 months. So how should I file for the removal of conditions? Should I mark on the form that I'm filing alone since we're getting a divorce? Please help me out. I'd love to pay for an attorney to help me but I'm going through financial problems at the time. I appreciate it beforehand.

  9. I just want to know where to start. Me and my wife are living separately, we got married in Miami and since we both just moved to different states we're going to start the divorce process in one of the states we're living in right now. My 2 year GC expires in August and I know I have to File for RoC 90 days before this date. What should I do since I still havent started the divorce process? Im planning on going to the courthouse this week.. Thanks before hand for the answers

  10. Me and my wife separated 6 months ago. We haven't done any paperwork to start the divorce. My green card expires on August this year. I understand that I should apply for the removal of conditions 90 days before August. My question is, what will happen at the moment of the interview? The only reason we haven't gotten a divorce yet is because we are giving ourselves time to see if we can work things out between us. Please let me know what is one to do in situations like these. Thank you!

  11. Hi everyone

I came to the U.S in January of 2011 with a K1 visa, me and my fiance got married in february 2011. I got my green card in august 2011, I understand that I have a conditioned green card and have to wait 2 years being married to remove the conditions. Now we're having issues in our marriage and she's considering getting a divorce. My question is.. what happens to my legal status in the US? what are my chances to stay and not being deported? we've been married for little less than a year, honestly I don't want to get a divorce.. but I want to be prepared to the worse as well. Our marriage was bona fide, it was real. We have joint bank accounts, both our names appears in our car insurance, etc. I have a good job here, friends and I'm about to go to school in miami dade college next semester. I left everything in my country and I can't go back. What are my chances? Thank you for your help!
