  2. Had a breakdown moment last night and woke up to this email this morning:

On July 28, 2014, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a "green card") or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, employment authorization document, travel document, or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

If you do not receive your document, please contact our National Customer Service Center at 1-800-375-5283.

    I hope that's good news?!

  3. I am currently in Birmingham, AL and we filed using the address in Mobile, AL. *HAPPY BELATED FAT TUESDAY!*

Anyway, hubby is still in Mobile and I'm in Birmingham for this new job. We received the biometrics letter on Monday (Mobile address). I'm scheduled for an 11AM appointment on March 18 at the ASC in Metairie, LA. My first Biometrics for the AoS was done at the same place. That's because the ASC office in LA is only 1.5hrs away from our address in Mobile.

Seeing that I'm in Birmingham now and will be here for at least another 80days due to the training/probation phase, do you think I'll be able to do a walk-in at the ASC office here in Birmingham? There's an ASC Office only 20mins away from my little rented nook. I'd rather miss the first 2 hours of work than to take one whole day off to drive a total of 12 hrs just to get my finger prints taken. I mean, I would if that's the only option I have.

Has anyone ever gotten their biometrics done at a more convenient location instead of the one USCIS had scheduled you at?

I just updated my timeline/status above. I'm getting a little worried; I have not received my Biometrics appointment letter :(

    • Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.

Petition was I-751 was extended for 1 year. What does that mean? Also, I failed to check the status with the receipt number. A little worried here. Any one has any idea what's up with that? Does it mean it's my NOA to let me know they have received the packet and that I can use this NOA to renew my soon-to-be expired DL?

  7. I doubt the month-to-month lease will raise red flags if you are still occupying that address. Some people do that. Just make sure you have documents to support both of you are still there. You don't have to physically be there and there are many couples in your situation. As long you show a common address USCIS does not need to know your real life plans. If any of your evidences do not include your new address, there is no reason to explain anything.

In my cover letter, I just grouped my evidences by location. By the way, this is for my RFE response. My conditional GC was for 2011 to 2013. I was at a location which I signed the lease for 2009-2011 but only had my name on it so I explained in the letter the lease was signed before we got married (which was 2010). However, my husband did use that address for some documents so I included that. Then we moved to another location between 2011-2013 and submitted evidences supporting that address. Then we moved again in 2013 (a house we bought together) and submit evidences supporting the 3rd address. I did not submit anything in which my husband still had my in-laws' address.

The evidences include financial statements, property ownership, employment documents etc for each address.

    I hope this makes sense.

I don't have any evidence or anything with my new address in Birmingham besides my presence (and pay stubs). I'm thinking of dropping the address unless the need for RFE arises (which I hope it doesn't ever happen!) cuz I know that would cause a delay.

Your explanation made a lot of sense and your tips/advice helped a lot, victorian221b! Thank you so much!

  9. Hello!

I was sort of in a similar situation as you so maybe you can use that as a reference.

During the 2 years of our marriage (ie the valid CGC period), we lived in 2 different locations plus our current location which makes it 3. When we were married, my husband had everything directed to his parents house whereas I had everything directed to the apt I lived in at the time. So our DLs are showing 2 different addresses that we don't currently reside long term in any more. This is the reason I did not submit our DLs.

Some of the documents my husband had still showed his parents' address and those documents crossed over into the period in which my 2-year GC was valid. He did change address for some of the important documents a lot later so that it will reflect cohabitation. However, for this reason I did not submit any documents that had a different address from where we actually lived.

I did submit evidences that supported the 3 locations we lived in - both from me and from him individually or from both of us. I clarified on the cover letter where we lived and when and what evidences I had submitted to support that.

Basically, make sure you provide evidences that show you both lived/have access to an address over the duration of your marriage.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks! However, we are still leasing that apartment and we had the owner of the apartment complex write a letter stating that we are on month-to-month. So I'm still worried that the IO might still see that as a red flag. It is just impossible for us to live in the same location now due to work and school. sad.png

Did you explain all that on your cover letter on on a separate sheet of paper/document? If you don't mind, can you share with me the way you did your cover letter?

  10. Thanks both of you for your reply. Please advise if my understanding is correct on the following:

    1. We do not staple any papers, just arrange them in order and if necessary use paper clips to organize them
    2. We sign and date the forms in black ink
    3. We do not need to send any passport sized photos
    4. A single check of $590 ($505 + $85) should work
    5. Since I live in Illinois (Chicago area), I send out my package to the California center
    6. Do we use fedex, ups or usps? What special tracking method or insurance when we send out packages? (Honestly I do not care about the cost of sending out the package, especially after spending months working on evidence, I just want the best and safest method)

    You got this! good.gif

If you live in Alaska, American Samoa, Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, file with the California Service Center at:

    USCIS California Service Center

    P.O. Box 10751

    Laguna Niguel, CA 92607-1075

I personally will be using USPS Express delivery just because I used that the last time around for my I-485 AoS and it was right on time and even managed to track down the signature of the receiver! I think a lot of VJers uses USPS but I'm sure whatever you choose to use will work just as well. UPS and FedEx might just be a bit more costly, that's all.

  11. Hello VJers! headbonk.gif I'm finally kicking myself in the butt and going to make sure I send this packet in tomorrow morning! I'm a month behind and I only have less than 60days til my GC expires.

We have a few concerns here:

    1. Hubby and I live in the same state but different counties/cities - I moved to Birmingham in March 2013 due to work and he is still in Mobile for school/internship. Moving to Birmingham would only delay his graduation thus we had decided that he would only move here upon graduation in May or after his internship ends. Should I address this matter on the cover letter?
    2. We have multiple addresses: Old college/po box address on my DL; his mom's house address on his DL; our shared apartment address in Mobile; he also has a po box in college which he had just stopped using.
-Our old savings account had his po box address, the new savings account has the apartment address
-Credit card bills -- apartment address
      -IRS filed with apartment address
-Sprint cellphone bill -- his po box address and then changed to his mom's address
      -Utilities (gas/power/internet) -- apartment address
-His auto insurance -- his mom's address

Any idea what we should do in order to not raise any red flags that might jeopardize our "reputation" or bona fide marriage?

    :help: Please? Thank you! sad.png

  12. I didn't change my last name and got approval for both AOS and ROC. Best of your luck!!!

good.gif Congratulations! I can't wait to get this over with. It's so hard to get our lives started with this whole immigration thing in the way.

Since you got the RoC approved without an interview, can I know what all evidence did you submit?

    I have gathered:

    • statements of our joint savings account (opened 2011, closed end of 2012, reopened 2013)
    • joint credit card bill for an item paid in installments (2011-2013)
    • utility statements for internet (my name), copies of power and gas "statement" with hubby's name as primary and mine as secondary
    • cellphone statements with my number and his number and his mom's
    • hubby's car auto insurance card with both our names
    • hubby's financial aid forms from his college
    • IRS transcripts for 2011 and 2012 (printed off from the website)
    • Apartment lease showing that we are both on it (and a letter from the owner saying that we are on month to month ever since the contract ended)
    • 401K and life insurance from work hat has hubby listed as beneficiary (printed copy of the profile information)
    • old copies from 2012 of the 'explanation of benefit' that has hubby's name on it as my dependent under my health benefits

Did we miss anything else? We are both in mid/late 20s; trying to set a solid foundation for a family. We have yet to acquire any huge assets and we are both trying to get our finances straight. We don't have credit cards (hubby had one and decided to cut it out for good due to late payments) and we don't have any big loans (except for his financial aid). I feel like we are at a disadvantage because we don't have that many intermingling finances/loans/investments/assets.

Off-Topic2.gif Sorry. But thank you in advance! star_smile.gif

  13. I should have filed and send it off on January 2nd but I was out of the country. Hubby had a crazy holiday season with production and events so now we are rushing and trying to get all the documents/evidence we can to send this packet off by Monday! *god bless us please*

I didn't change my last name after the wedding and don't intend to change it. Hubby respects the decision and didn't think name changing is a biggie in regards to marriage. My mom and grandmom didn't not change their last names and I just kinda wanted to stick to the tradition for family's sake.

Now the problem is, we are at a lost:

Part 1a: Family Name (Last Name):__________
Do i use the info on my conditional green card to fill this section up? My original name is on the card. Or should I use his last name seeing that he is my family? But i didn't change my last name and I have my maiden name on it. Am I confusing myself here?

I don't want to cause any confusion in terms of information as I've only filed with my maiden name throughout the AoS process and intend to do the same with the RoC.

    Help/advice please?

    Thank you!

  14. Social security and medicare tax were withheld even though I was on my OPT. I learned that you don't pay the social security and medicare taxes if you are on OPT but I'm not too sure if I was reading the correct thing. I believe that I wasn't taxed as an international student when I was at work last year. Now I'm confused; should I file my taxes with form 1040nr-ez or file it like a resident ie. 1040ez? My hubby and I thought of filing our taxes separately this year because I thought I should probably file as a nonresident as I was on my OPT last year. Now I'm so lost and it's the last week to file taxes! :( Please help me? Thank you!

  15. Friday, March 30th. The interview was scheduled at 1245PM.

We were almost late cos we forgot about the time change. To make things worse, there was a line of about 20 in front of us. When we got to the door, we had to go through the security check. One good tip is to make sure all the accessories that you have on your wrists/arms are removed before you reach that door. I was never one to accessorize but my manic mind made me wear stuff that day. We were told to go straight up to the 2nd floor after the security check; we were sent back down to check in as we didn't know we had to. There was already a couple waiting to be interviewed; we sat there and waited for our number to be called.

Our officer was nice. He told us to meet him at the third floor and instructed us to take the elevator while he took the stairs. He swore us in and introduced himself as Singleton. Hubby was nervous. He asked us, individually, our full name, birthdate and address. Then he said that the interview was going to be a 2 part interview: one was for the marriage and one was for the petition. He proceeded to ask me the questions from the I-485 (terrorism, prostitution, felony..etc) and checked them off as I responded. He asked us how we met and how long we dated before we got married. He asked for both of our licenses and passports as we had gone on trips together to various countries. He told us that he saw our photos and was impressed because they were labelled with date/place and with a brief note, in chronological order, which made it very presentable and easy for him to understand. A lot of small talk in between. He asked if I have any proof of income with me and I gave him my latest paystub. He asked for our joint bank statement and I gave it to him too. He didn't like the idea that we were using our p.o. box as the address for the paystubs/bank statements instead of our physical address. I gave him a letter from the landlord that states our tenancy (but that idiot forgot to put both our names on the letter!) and his business card attached to it. I told him that the reason we used our individual p.o. box was to make it easier for us when we move. Besides we had the box when we were in college. We won't have to worry about bills/statements being sent to the apartment that we no longer reside when we move. I rummaged through my folder for more evidence in case he needed it. I even offered to let him look at my personal scrapbook that I did for the hubby for our 1 yr anniversary but he said he's tired of looking at photos. He told us that our documentation of evidence that was submitted with the application was very thorough and he think an interview would be kinda unnecessary for our case if he was running the system but because he isn't, we had to drive all the way to Atlanta for a "chat". :wow:

Then he asked me if I had any questions for him. Apparently it was my cue for me to ask if I was approved or not but as oblivious as I could get, I said, "not right now". He was surprised that I wasn't curious to know if I was approved. Then he told me that I have to submit a form to remove the condition on my GC 90 days before it expires and not a day earlier otherwise it would be denied. And after that I could apply for citizenship. I noted down everything he said like a good student and when he was done, I asked if it was over. He told me that we could leave when he is done updating my status into the system. I asked him if I needed to get my passport stamped, or if that no longer exist. He said I don't need the stamp and my GC should arrive in 4-6 wks time but most people get theirs in less than 2 wks. I told him I was going to fly back to malaysia to visit my family and casually mentioned that the ticket price has been increasing every other day. I added the "i hope it wont be $500 more in 2 wks time". He said they could only place a stamp on your passport if you have your itinerary but other than that they have stopped doing that. We continued to talk about the ticket, and how it's the best time to fly back and then he said, "take your passport down to the check-in counter and tell them your sad story. It worked on me as I'm typing this letter for you now so you could let them see it and hopefully they'll place a stamp on your passport". We laughed; I thanked him and for a moment it didn't feel like I was undergoing a major immigration intervention of some sort. We had a lot of casual talk during the entire interview and we even talked bout how ridiculous my position at my job is and how interesting his job is, being able to see all sorts of faces and frauds. He even told us stories about people he had denied due to marriage fraud!

Finally when everything is all completed, he walked us to the elevator and congratulated me on my first day as a permanent resident. We shook his hand and left with a big wide smile plastered on our faces. :D

I truly appreciate the help and guidance that all you VJers had provided me with throughout my journey with the AoS process. Who needs a lawyer when you guys are so much better than that?
