I received my green card in mail on July 7th.

I wrote a letter to my congressman and faxed it to their office(went on his webpage). I had to fill out some privacy statements, etc.

I wrote a cover page explaining that USCIS received my removal application on July 7th, I completed my biometrics on time, and people were being approved who applied in September 2011. I also wrote that I felt the evidence I submitted was more than adequate as we own investment properties, share bank accounts, health and life insurance, etc.

Within one day of the congressman's office receiving my letter they called me to say they were going to contact USCIS.

Five days after that I received an email saying I was approved.

I have been reading recent posts about the passport renewal process from the US, including a very helpful one from Inky, but I have a couple questions still. If anyone cares to chip in, it would be great!

I'm doing the adult form since I'm changing my name to my married name. I'm also going to Canada for a visit in a couple weeks, so I was going to get my pictures taken there and get my guarantor to sign it all as well. Is this OK?

Once I get back to Virginia, I was going to mail it from here to the office in Gatineau. Is this correct? They will mail my passport to the US, correct?

You should be fine doing it that way. I just applied for my Canadian passport in March and they sent it directly to my address in the U.S.

I didn't try the name change. I just left it with my maiden name as I knew the headache would be too much.

I guess I owe my State Representative Langford's office a huge "Thank you!" They got the ball rolling with USCIS about my pending case. My husband called yesterday evening while I was at work saying I received the approval letter from USCIS. FINALLY! Date of decision 6/26

Mine has been a year now and if it wasn't for my congressman pushing the USCIS, they won't be even agree to have my N400 to be priority over the ROC...

Did you contact your State Senator or Representative? I sent in letters to both offices, but am trying to figure out which one I should follow up with, and who would be more willing to take action. From what I can tell on the Senator's websites, one of them is anti-immigration, so I won't be sending anything off to him. LOL!

I put in a service request for my pending application on May 16(ish). I called yesterday and it turns out the person that sent in the service request, put the service request for "non-delivery of green card", instead of "outside normal processing times".

Any of those waiting received any news about their case?

Nothing yet for me. I just sent letters to my State Senator and State Representative. Hopefully that will get the ball rolling.

Would be nice if they got finished the cases for those of us still waiting.

Doesnt make much difference. There is little they can do. Find yours on their web site. You will find a form to fill out and send in. Within a month or so you will get a responce. They will tell you they will do what they can. They will contact you to tell you USCIS reports your case is in progress.

You will be asked if you contacted another politician. If so one will not deal with your situation. Decide on one. These are many of the same people that have avoided immigration issues so dont expect much. None of them has any real power over USCIS anyway.

That sucks! I basically wasted an hour of my day filling out forms, writing out a letter and printing pages to fax off.

Is it better to contact a senator or a representative for an immigration issue?

I just sent a fax to my State Senator. On his website, he mentions sending a request to him for federal matters (on the list he had immigration as an option).

For those of us who are waiting for approval for the past 11 months, what is it that we can do? I have an infopass appt. this friday to get the passport stamped just in case. On May 31st I received an email saying I should receive an approval or someother notice of action within 60 days. Its been almost 2 weeks already, since I didnt receive anything in today's mail either.Just wondering what the other who are waiting are planning to do? Are you going to contact your congressman and does that even help?

I am getting quite frustrated myself. I thought about just going and filing for Naturalization when I am eligible (July 4). This will leave them no choice but to force them to make a decision on the I-751 or N400. I have read posts where people say their congress"person" has helped their cases. I myself am not sure if it was coincidence or if the congressperson really did some work. Quite frankly, I think they don't concern themselves too much with permanent residents as we don't have the right to vote.

Best bet, when 60 days arrives and if you still hear nothing, file another service request. I am sure your application and evidence is stuck with mine and we just happened to luck out with the world's laziest immigration officer to work on our case. LOL!

All the details lie with you and so do your answers. There is something I like to call "what he said vs what you heard." So often women accuse men of lying when the man has actually told you their intentions and shown you who they are, but we romanticized them. What has he told you that you laughed off or thought "oh he doesn't mean that?" I would suggest you do somethings that you like doing to quiet your mind and you'll get your answers. (sit by a river, go to the beach, take a walk)

Let's be honest to this poor woman.

Her heart is broken. We don't need to sugar coat things and say "what he said vs what you heard".

The guy must have given her intentions to get married from some point in their relationship. If he didn't want any form of long-term commitment (aka marriage) he would not have let it get this far.

IMO- this was fraud just like quite a few other people pointed out. I am sorry to be so blunt! Immigration fraud happens in many first world nations to many individuals. I can only imagine the heartache that these people (and woman) must go through. It's not just a financial cost, it is also an emotional roller coaster ride.

Like someone else pointed out, to file a fraud case may exhaust you emotionally. If you haven't received the green card yet, just pull your application and support and move on with your life.

I hate to sound judgmental, but from the sounds of the post it seems like you are planning to split up once you get to the US and just trying to figure out how long you have to hold out. Don't focus on the negative. If you love her and she loves you, you should be focusing on keeping it that way.

In my opinion, by asking these types of question on a public thread, if his IO happens to read his posts and can relate it to him (ie. he said where he was from) he may not even get his AOS.

I received a letter from USCIS last night.

After all my personal information, the last paragraph says "Your case is currently under review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action within 60 days of the date of this letter."

So, life has been shitty lately, but I'll spare you the details.

Long story short, I came home today after a very long day which included mailing my ROC ppwk, to find the paper that had the copy of my green card is sitting on my desk. WHY it wasn't paper-clipped with the rest of the papers in the packet I have no idea, but I'm not impressed.

Anyways, I KNOW I'm going to get an RFE for this. My question is, will they still go ahead and cash the check, and give me the NOA and extend my green card for the year for processing in the mean time? It's important to me that they do this because I'm planning a much overdue and much needed trip home this summer, and it falls right around the time my GC expires. I don't want to book my flights until I get the NOA and GC extension just in case something happens. Thoughts?

Not necessarily. When I filed my I-751 in July 2011, I sent it a few days too soon and forgot the front and back copy of the green card. They sent my whole file back to me, with the check, and said that I had submitted the documents too early and forgot the copy of the green card. If you get an easy-going officer, hopefully, they just send you back the entire package for you to resubmit.

Don't feel bad Im still waiting too.I called the Immigration office today and they ask some questions and said they were going to do a service request and that I should hear some thing from them with in 15 days. Does anyone know what a service request is? Or has had one and can explained to me what it is.

I called USCIS and they issued a service request for me as well (May 16th). A service request means they send your information to VSC (or whatever service center you are based out of) and they look at your case to find out what is happening with it. I haven't heard anything about mine yet. From what I have read on visajourney, I don't think service requests seem to do much good.

Hello everyone! Grateful for your time and attention to my situation below. I've scoured the internet forums but ended up more confused. I'll try and put it in outline form for easy reading:

1. I'm US Citizen, my boyfriend is Canadian. Been together for about a 1.5 years and we have decided to get married and stay in US. He has Canadian passport and just last week was with me here in US for vacation.

2. We "THINK" it's best to get married here and file I-130F and the rest of the needed documents, instead of applying for a K-1 visa, so that we can be together already while his papers are being processed.

3. We're opting to not do the K-1 visa process because of MY fear of his past issues. He's had 3 DUIs within the past 8 years. Also, he had a little verbal argument with his mother (while he was drunk) that made his mother put a somewhat "no contact" restriction between him and her. It's not a full-blown restraining order. However, since both of them were living together, he had no choice but to come back home and therefore was in violation of this no-contact restriction. He has cleared this violation in court and has court papers to prove it. The main issue, as I see it, is that the US might see this as a problem tied with alcohol/drinking, and that he might pose as a hazard to the US, and they might not grant him the K-1 visa (We all make stupid mistakes when we were younger, right? Not that it's an excuse. But he is sober now, thank God). My beau's reasoning is that it's not like he killed anybody or did drugs, so he thinks it should be fine. My issue is the number of times the DUI happened, plus

4. Reading more into the forums, I confused myself a lot more knowing that there's an IR-1/CR-1 and a K-3 visa. Does he need to apply for any of this if he already will be in the US and we get married? Or does it mean that we can get married here, then he has to go back? I have a friend who was here on tourist visa and she met someone (a US Citizen), they got married, filed their forms, and she didn't have to go back to her country while it was happening.

If I posted this on the wrong topic, please feel free to move it. Again, I appreciate anyone's inputs on this matter.

Actually, with regards to the green card, from my experience, (my husband and I have done 3 closings as a married couple) it depends on the financial institution and how they will react to your green card expired and extension letter.

Bank of America has closed on 2 of our houses, where they did not give us any issues.

However, there was a company which would not put me on the mortgage to one of our homes (as luck would have it- our matrimonial one). It was a third party lending company which ended up selling us to Bank of America in the end....go figure!

Either way, good luck! I agree with the person who made the comment on how difficult it is to obtain "matrimonial evidence" with no banks giving conditional green card holders mortgages, joint credit cards, etc.

Can somebody clarify the extension letter expiry date to me?

The USCIS 1-800 numbers says it expires 1 year from the DATE of the letter.

when i tried to have the OKC office stamp my passport with an I-551 last month they wouldn't saying the expiration of the letter is one year from my green card.

In our custody papers, my ex has a legal right to see our daughter during the summer. She will be heading out of country in two weeks. I have made an infopass appt as our extension letter expires July 5.

My husband seems to think she will be okay coming back into the US with an expired extension letter. I don't want to do this- I don't trust USCIS.

I have made another Infopass appt for this week. I am going to bring extension letter, passport, flight itinerary and ask again for the stamp.

Has anyone had any issues getting this stamp?

Yes, I did. I was told that as long as my application date is within the 30 days of the Processing date I should be fine. In other words I shouldnt call them again until the Processing date shown is after August 21st, 2011 :-( I will until MAy end and then get an infopass appointment if I dont hear anything. I hate to be the last few on the July filers to get approval....feel left out!! :-(

I was able to get a woman at USCIS to put in a service request for me 2 days ago (on the 16th).

Hubby and I just got back home from our Houston biz / leisure trip about an hour ago. So, I checked the mail box same time we were unloading our stuff and there it was, the famous Congratulations! letter (dated 05/01/2012) waiting for us. Yay! Finally!

From what you've said already he seems to think things are already done for. He's already admitted to have gone and visited this individual

'once or twice' (more than likely more), and has done the unthinkable already with her. Doesn't seem he's looking for a way to patch things up, but is looking for the excitement again. That will fizzle away too.

I would have to agree with Jen and Jon that it sounds like the unthinkable has already been done.

Be strong and don't let him just "kick you out" of your home together. Without a signed divorce decree, and despite what he may say, he cannot just make you leave with no place to go. Only a judge can do that.

However, i have not received any approval letter in mail till now. Anyone know when the letter will be sent after approval?

I was hoping the Infopass appointment I went to could give me some more answers on my case. The IO told me right now they are taking a year to process the I-751 so I don't need to worry. He asked if I received my letter for the interview yet. I have not, so I am assuming I will be getting one of those. He was very pleasant but would not stamp my passport with an I-551 as he said my extension letter should be good enough for summer travel out of the country. Here is my question, my receipt date on my I-797C (extension letter) is dated 07/05/2011. Would this letter not expire 07/05/2012? I told him I would be traveling at the end of July and he said that was fine.

What great news! The 20th was a Friday, so if they mailed out the letter on the following Monday, I would expect you would receive the letter in the next few days.
