Congratulations!! We were also approved yesterday, it was soooo exciting!!
To anyone else about to have an interview at the Sydney consulate, I was told something very interesting by the lady who initially went through my documents. She said that since I fly next week and need my passport back quickly I should have brought in an express post bag, despite being told to create a profile in my Packet 4 email. She said that creating a profile would take about a week to get my visa to me whereas with a post bag I would get it the next day. I was lucky that she waited while I ran to the post office in Martin Place.
Moral of my story, if you want to be in the US yesterday, make sure you take a 3kg platinum post bag to your interview in Sydney(they insisted that it be that exact type!)
Cheers

Hi Cain&Kat,
My packet 4 doesn't mention anything about an envelope either... Anyone else?

Hey, my interview is that day too!
Happy birthday

Hi Georgiabound,
Agreed - it makes no sense! Yesterday I booked my flights to the US and ended up purchasing a return flight on United via Expedia as this was $400-$500 cheaper than a one-way would have been!
I read somewhere (I think it was the Australian US embassy website) that it makes no difference to immigration whether you arrive with a one-way or a return flight.
Only problem with not getting on the second leg of the return journey means you forfeit the airpoints for that!
Cheers

Hi all
Sorry to revive an old topic, but I also have a question regarding having a medical done in Sydney.
Barbara J, you mentioned that Dr Waks will tell you when to pick up the results. Does this mean I can pick up my medical results directly from him instead of waiting for them to be mailed to me?? If so, that will really speed up the process!
Thanks

Hi, thanks for the suggestions. We sent in the lease and have now received an RFE for more evidence, so clearly it wasn't sufficient.
Thanks

Hi all,
I just wanted to post to see if there is anyone out there who is or was in the same situation as us.
We met while both working in Australia and lived together here for 2 years before my fiance moved back to the US. In September 2011 we applied for an I-129 for me to go and join him. We are struggling to prove we have "met" as the usual proof of boarding passes/ passport stamps isn't hugely relevant to us.
We sent in photos and a lease which we are both on as tenants, but didn't keep any boarding passes as we didn't look into any of this until after we decided to move to the US.
So, I just wondered if anyone has been in this situation as we have just received an RFE for proof that we have "met". We have copies of passport stamps from trips together and each have pay slips addressed to our apartment but wondered if anyone has other ideas of what else we can include.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,
Travelodge Wynyard is also close, about a 10 minute walk and probably one of the more reasonably priced hotels in the CBD.
Good luck!

Hey,
I know what you mean about reading contradictory advice. I was a little concerned before I went over for the visit, given some of what I had read on here, but there was no problem with it for me. I told the border guard that we were waiting on a visa but that I was just there for a 2 week visit and it was all totally fine!
We have filed for a K1 visa and received NOA1 on 20 September. Waiting for NOA 2
I met my fiance while he was in Australia on a working visa and we had been living together for a couple of years before he moved back to the US... so I know EXACTLY what you mean about the time apart being terrible and frustrating!I can't believe they lost yours. That is terrible!

Hi All,
It has been over a year since we first attempted the i-130 process with USCIS! It has been lost a few times and so we have submitted it again.
My question is... which is the best way for an Australian citizen to be in the USA with their partner (US Citizen in the Military) whilst the process is in place...ie tourist visa, VWP...etc
As you are all probably aware being away from your partner is very disheartening and i am definitely at breaking point.
Kindest regards
Goldyc
Hi,
Not sure about being in the US for any period of time, but I had no trouble going to the US to spend Christmas and NYs with my fiance on the VWP. They asked a few questions at the point of entry to check I had return tickets and still had a job and apartment etc in Australia but that was it.
Keep hanging in there!
Cheers

Wow! That is SO frustrating!! Fingers crossed you get your passport soon.
Austramerican -have you guys had your email yet to say your visa has been printed? I haven't and was just wondering if anyone else who had an interview this Tuesday has gotten theirs?
