  1. Just for clarification regarding the Police Record #2. Is it different for CR1/IR1 immigration applicants compared to a K-1 or other visa status applicants of having the Police Record #2 good for 1 year? I have read the instructions on the Consulate website in HCMC and the instructions in the Interview letter both state that the document is good for 1 year. I have read several times people are saying that it is only good for 6 months.

Has this information changed or is it different depending on the type of visa that's being applied?

Consulate in HCMC: (dated: Oct. 2015)

    11. Original Justice Record Check #2: Issued within the past year by Department of Justice office in the district where you currently reside or at your official residence as registered in your household registration book (Ho Khau). This document is required for each visa applicant aged 16 years or older. Further information about Vietnamese police certificates, please visit: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/VM.html.

    Interview Letter:

Applicants may need to bring an additional police certificate to the interview. If the following three
items are all true, the applicant needs to bring an updated police certificate to the interview:
    ? He or she is more than 16 years old;
? He or she obtained a police certificate more than one year ago; and
? He or she still lives in the country that issued the police certificate.

  2. Hello All,

Just an update and a FYI for those who want to pursue an Exit Visa for their child born in Vietnam with USC status and a US Passport. The other alternative choice is to get a Vietnamese Passport for your child if you choose to go that route.

To get an Exit Visa stamp you must visit In Ho Chi Minh: 254 Nguyễn Trãi street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh city, Vietnam

Here is a link to their contact and information online: http://www.vietnam-immigration.org.vn/news/view/contact-information-of-vietnam-immigration-department-in-vietnam.html

-You will need to get the document form NA5 and fill it out. (You can get the form at the front entrance window of the building for a small fee or print it out online)

-Then, the NA5 form will need to get a red stamp at the mother's place of residence (NA5 form place for child's signature -just leave it blank-)

-Next, take the stamped NA5 form with Mother's ID Card, Child's Birth Certificate, and US Passport back to the Immigration Dept. in HCMC

-You will be given an option to choose a 1 month, 3 month, or 6 month single or multi-entry visa. (Prices will vary)

-After a week (they will give you a receipt w/ date to return), you return to the same Immigration Department in HCMC 254 Nguyễn Trãi street, District 1 to pick up the child's stamped US Passport

PS - At the beginning, you will need to get a number to queue and wait. Later, you just bring the pick-up receipt and present it to personnel for immediate service with going through the number queue.

I hope this will help someone down the road that is inquiring about getting the exit visa stamp.

    Best regards

  3. Hi TylerTruc,

If you got the original marriage certificate translated in Vietnam, they usually provide a photocopy of the original marriage certificate along with the translated document. In addition, it would also include a red stamp that would be on each page certifying the document as well as the translated document. Basically, we sent a certified translated marriage certificate that included a photocopy of the original with the red stamp being on each page.

To be on the safe side, I would make sure that you got a photocopy of the marriage certificate submitted with your packet. If I am not mistaken the NVC only requires photocopies of the documents at this stage along with English translation if needed. Then, you are to present the original documents at the time of the interview at the consulate.

I hope that answered your question.

If anyone else can respond, it would help clarify the question at hand.

  4. Hi WhiteDove,

It seems like you got a decent price on your airfare. I think it might have something to do with the long layover. Lately, I searched online and have only seen one-way ticket prices from SGN -> DFW for around $650-$700 with varying carriers.

You might want to consider checking out the website called Kayak.(See link below) They also provide several airline carrier pricing too. The advantage of using this website is obtaining several carrier's airfares and you get a general idea of pricing. If you do decide to go with a travel agent, you will have a price in mind to compare with the agent's price.

Hope you this helps you out.

  5. Hi Williamle216,

Here is a link to the Consulate General of the US in HCMC:

You can review the list of items that they require to bring to the interview.

    http://photos.state.gov/libraries/hochiminh/1234016/IV/IV-INSTRUCTION-PACKAGE.pdf

I don't recall whether or not the (P4) Appointment Interview Letter required the Household Registration Book. If you review the link from the HCMC consular website, you will see that the list includes the Household Registration Book. We plan on bringing this document to avoid any possible issues. So, it couldn't hurt to have the item on hand.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Best of luck to you guys and wishing you guys a successful interview

  6. No problem Anhill. Glad that I can be of some help.

I have read that most individuals are urged to get the vaccinations done here in Vietnam. The main reasoning being with the cost here (VN) is far less than it's going to cost you in the states. The only other point is to ensure you bring your current vaccination records with you to see the Civil Surgeon in the US. Otherwise, you may be required to get all of the shots again.

Here is one of the topics similar to what you are inquiring about:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/389669-vaccination-questions/

It seems that you are able to get the vaccinations done in the US as some require intervals, but they will need to be done prior to the AOS. So, I am not sure if you will need to have an adjustment of status done or not. In any event, I hope this information will help answer part of your question.

Best of luck to you guys and congrats on the successful interview.

  7. Hi Anhill,

From what I have been reading around the VJ forum, I was under the impression that Vietnam had a shortage with some of the vaccinations. I have read that due to the shortages that you could get the vaccination(s) done when you arrive in the US. However, I have not actually gone through the process yet here in VN, so I can't speak from experience. I can only tell you from what I read on the forums.

Here is a link to the US Dept of State Bureau of Consular Affairs:

    http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/vaccinations.html

From the link above, it seems that you are required to get certain vaccinations completed prior to getting your visa.

Hopefully, this will help you out and maybe someone else can post an experience of going through the process.

  8. Thanks WhiteDove for your help and input. I think we are going to give the exit permit / visa a try at first. If we go for the VN Passport route, it is a little more involved with the distance to her family up north. Although, it sounds like the ideal way to go plus it might be the option we're left with in the end.

I will let everyone know what the outcome will be as soon as we get word on the exit permit / visa. I think it will at least give someone down the road an alternate avenue to explore that option.

    Thanks again for everyone's help.

  9. Thanks Anh Map for the quick reply back. I would not have any issue going that route. I would prefer to get the exit visa stamp. In our case, it might be a little easier to obtain the stamp rather travel back up north just to add him in the redbook. Then, we would need to travel again to the DOJ for the passport.

However, I am seeing a pattern of people in my situation going the dual passport route not sure by choice or if they had already elected for the child to have dual passports.

If anyone else did the exit visa, I would greatly appreciate any feedback. If not, I guess we will go the VN passport route.

  10. I was wondering if anyone may have gone through the process of getting an exit permit / visa for a child born in Vietnam. Also the child is a USC and only has a US Passport. I know most parent's decided to get their children a US Passport and a Vietnamese Passport. Anyone know how or what to do about just getting an Exit permit or visa so we can leave the country? I have visited the Immigration building in Saigon but there seems to be a misunderstanding or they are not explaining the process to my understanding.

The only thing I can think of is getting my child a multi-entry tourist visa that will allow him to exit. Please let me know if anyone has any thoughts or experience in this process.

    Thank you in advance.

  11. Hi Haseo,

There is usually only three options given after you have created the new user when selecting Login. The screen should have offered (1) Register delivery address (2) Non-Immigrant Visa (3) Immigrant Visa.

Each consulate may instruct the visa process different. But, the consulate here in HCMC Vietnam instructs to visit the ustraveldocs website immediately after getting the IV packet to register your address.

After you register your address, it will prompt you to a bar coded page with the Beneficiary's name and address. It says to present this page at time of interview. I have heard that after the interview, the consulate officer will direct the person to the (EMS) counter to provide their home address.

So, I would think that they might already have your address. It looks like the passport and visa is already "ISSUED" as you stated. So, you should be getting it in a day or two.
