  1. Its so sad these CO don't understand what it means for two loved ones to be apart! Why d silly questions!. Be positive..all gonna come to pass sooner than u think. GOODLUCK

Thank you. Encouragement helps. My husband is showing a very positive attitude about the whole thing. He keeps telling me he's not worried, because he has "no skeletons on his shelf." Let's hope they investigate quickly. It's hard having another roadblock put up in our path, but I guess it just wasn't our time to be together quite yet.

  2. That went faster than most of what they schedule. Remain positive. As for the "how do you have a baby and not get married?" question I don't know if I could have stopped myself from saying "the same way it happens in the US or any place else."

Yeah. He told them "It is possible for a woman to give birth and not be married." I think I would have asked "would you like a blow by blow explanation?" but that probably would have made the guy mad.

  3. For anyone who may be wondering whatever happened at our interview, here goes: On Monday, my husband and daughter went in for their interview. He felt like everything went well. He answered all questions about me, us, my family that were asked. At the end, he was asked if he had anything from his daughter's mother giving permission for her to immigrate. He brought out the letter she had signed (we decided to wait until the interview to have it notorized, and only if asked to do so, which we expected). The man said everything looked good, but they couldn't issue him a visa without the notorized letter for our daughter, since they'd applied together. He asked for my husband to go to the embassy website to schedule an appointment for our daughter's biological mother to come in and have the letter notorized and to ask her some questions.

We scheduled the appointment, then the next day a lady from the embassy called and asked him to come in at noon Thursday (today) and bring the mother, but not our daughter. They were instructed to bring her birth documents and pictures.

They were at the embassy for five hours today, during which time, they were separated and each interviewed twice by the legal department and questioned extensively about their relationship. They asked several questions trying to trip them up and say they were married (which they are not, never have been, and have been living in separate countries for about 6 years now). They asked things like "How can you have a baby and not be married?", "Where do you stay when you come to Lagos?", ""Where does the child's mother live?" "Do you ever go to visit her when you go to Lagos?", and "In Ghana, when you are at market when your daughter gets out of school, who takes care of her?". They asked the mother the same questions.

After all that, he was given a letter saying the case needs more administrative processing and they would call him when they finish processing everything. Something like that. I plan to have him scan the letter to me so I can see exactly what it says.

  4. Thank both for the information. I'll call to double check. It cost $300 so he could get it quicker. It would have been $200 if we wanted to wait an additional two weeks. If we'd realized it was a two week wait, he would have requested it before traveling to Naija to get his documents there & it would have been ready when he returned. But even $200 more is too much with all the other expenses we're facing just now.

  5. My husband's interview is coming up and there are mixed opinions about how long Ghana police clearance is good for. He got his in January 2013, and there is no expiration date on it, as there is on the one from Nigeria. We know he will have to get another Nigerian certificate before the interview. The Ghana certificate cost us $300 and we don't want to have to pay that again if it is not necessary.

Does anybody know for sure how long the Ghana police certificate is currently good for?

We got our interview date! My husband and daughter are scheduled the same day and time, as expected.

  7. This is my take on it....

They hand out the interview dates according to earliest case completes, BUT, depending on when your priority date is, THAT'S what date they will give you.

    For example,

Person A has case complete on Feb. 1 but her priority date is only 5 months ago (she flew through uscis).

Person B has case complete on Feb. 10 but her priority date is 10 months ago (she had problems with uscis).

Person A finds out her interview date today and it is set for May 20.

Person B finds out her interview date tomorrow and it is set for May 10.

Even though Person A had case complete before Person B, she ended up with a later interview date because her priority date is way after Person B.

That's how I'm looking at it anyway.

This is an interesting theory. My case may help to show whether you are correct or not. My case complete was after 4 others going through Nigeria, and they know their interview dates, while I do not yet. However, my priority date is in August of 2011 ( I am thinking way before theirs). Once my interview is scheduled, I will be comparing now to see if the actual date is before or after theirs...

  8. Seems Case Complete rules. I know for me I am over 6 months after 2HeartsR1 but we are only 1 day apart. Who knows their crazy system. I do know there were 7 for Nigeria and they gave out thr top 4 in order of case complete. I got the earliest date. I think 7 months at NVC counts for something LOL

My previous reply was supposed to be in response to this, but must have hit the wrong button somewhere. My case has been at the NVC for over a year, I'm interested to see how that works out once I find out my date.

  9. Length of time at NVC must not count for much, since we've been over a year at NVC, and no date yet. I think you're probably right about case complete being the biggest determining factor (at least for Nigeria). If it went by priority date, I think ours would have been at least close to first scheduled, since our priority date was in August of 2011.

Sorry about that, I replied to the wrong post

  10. Congrats! Same date as mine :)
