No NOA, but cheque was cashed today!

Mailed to CSC on 5/11! Certified mail shows they received it 5/13.

Thank you, Merrytooth! The courthouse made me a document stating I have had no arrests/convictions; I just wasn't sure if submitting it would cause confusion.
I will just wait for them to do the check at biometrics.

Hello, I'm about to submit I-751 and am unclear on one part of the instructions. Page 4 of the instructions say "If you have ever been convicted or placed in an alternative sentencing program... Etc... 3. If no record is available, an original statement from the court that no record exists of your arrest or conviction".
I take this to mean you only have to submit a court document if you have been convicted.
Since I have no arrests/convictions/trouble with the law- does that mean I don't need to submit any type of background check or court document?
Thank you for your help!

Hello again everyone, I'm working on the re-applications for EAD and AP and have another quick question. I entered as a K1 and am awaiting AOS. What is my current immigration status?
Thanks again!

Thank you both so much for your replies! This is excellent news. Much appreciated!

Hello everyone,
We filed for AOS from a K1 on August 21, 2012. A recent service request revealed that our case requires "additional review", and that we are to allow another 9-12 months processing. My EAD and AP will expire in less than three months from now (mid-October).
Do I need to fill out (and pay for) another I-765 and I-131? Or is there a way to request an extension since it is due to their slow processing?
Thank you for your help!

I'm also an August 2012 filer. I had submitted as service request on April 4th, and finally learned that it was processed this morning. It states that our case is under active processing, but requires additional review and we should expect to hear in 9-12 months... Wonderful.
I have no idea what would have triggered the need for additional processing, as our case is about as straightforward as they come (grew up three hours apart and met while going to the same grad school). I was told I can set up an infopass appointment to find out what there concerns are, and plan to do that ASAP.
I've seen that some people have also contacted some type of government representative. Does anyone have advice on who to contact, or when this is appropriate?
Thank you!

Hi everyone,
I worked in Canada prior to moving to the US in August, and now have income from both countries. I think I've decided to file "married filing joint" and elect to be a whole-year US resident for tax purposes. I believe this means I am a non-resident in Canada for tax purposes, and have found that if I am in fact a non-resident there, I only need to report income from Canadian sources. I'm feeling semi-comfortable with the US side of taxes, but have lots of questions about the Canadian side...
I'm trying to use TurboTax and am assuming I need to choose the "non-resident" status option. However, here are a few specific questions:
1) Am I in fact a non-resident in Canada if I am claiming to be a full-year resident in the US? I'm assuming you can't be a resident in two places at once, but please correct me if this isn't true...
2) I entered my Canadian income under the Federal "income" section in TurboTax, and was then asked to enter "other Canadian-source income" in the provincial portion of the program. It seems to me this is asking me to report the same income twice; however, I'm wondering if you do in fact need to report your Canadian income separately for federal and provincial purposes. Does anyone know if non-residents are to enter Canadian income under Federal "income", under Provincial "Statement of World Income", or under both?
Thanks for your help- hopefully someone can help me stop pulling my hair out!

I contacted USCIS today to check my status (receipt # starting MSC) and was told that the processing time in Missouri for AOS was 7 months. Hope this helps!

Hi Lisers, I had a similar question last month... my AP and EAD were approved on October 19th and I was scheduled to start work in the US November 5th. I had a brand new niece in Canada and wanted to be sure I could visit before starting work. I made an Infopass appointment for Monday the 22nd, and was told they didn't have the machines necessary to print off an emergency card. I ended up having to wait for the card to come in the mail before leaving for Canada and was only able to spend a few days there. The card arrived Saturday morning the 27th (8 days after text notice that it had been approved).
However, there are a few things I can suggest:
First, when I attended the Infopass appt, I was asking for an AP/EAD emergency card. Thinking of it now, I think I may have had more luck had I not mentioned the EAD and requested only the AP. I know from other posts that emergency AP is an option, I'm just not sure if my case (or yours) would be considered 'emergencies'. I would suggest bringing some form of letter stating that it is imperative that you be at the confirmation just in case.
Second, if you're not successful with an Infopass appointment, you can call USCIS (800-375-5283) and request the USPS tracking number for your card... at least that way you will know prior to the day it arrives if you will be able to make it or not.
Finally, I was told by people both on here and at the Infopass appointment that since I was approved, I could leave without abandoning status. I simply had to be sure I had the card before re-entering the US (i.e. have it couriered to me in Canada). However, the risk for this is that apparently, there are frequently mistakes on the card which would need to be fixed before you could return to the US. If you need to be back in the US by a certain time, you'll have to weigh out the risks and benefits of potentially being stranded in Canada for longer than expected.
Hopefully you will have the card in hand by the time you need to leave, but if not, maybe one of these options can help you. Good luck!

Just an update for anyone in a similar situation in the future:
I called USCIS (800-375-5283) and requested the tracking number for my EAD/AP document. Through this, I was able to see when the card would arrive. I was packed and ready to leave, and when it arrived with the mail at 1pm, I was out the door! I was able to spend 8 days with my family and still be back in time to begin work yesterday. Leaving the country was easy (they didn't even know what AP was), but it was a bit of a hassle on the way back into the US. They were very nice, but it took about an hour in secondary processing at a land border.
It took a total of 8 days for my card to arrive after I received the email that it had been ordered. I hope this help someone else in the future!

Alright everyone, here's an update...
I went to an Infopass appointment this morning, and wasn't able to have anything given to me on the spot. The clerk I dealt with stated they didn't have access to the machine necessary to print documents, and she wasn't sure how anybody would have been able to acquire emergency documents (which is most definitely something that has been done in the past). Honestly, she didn't seem very well informed about the process- I used acronyms EAD and AP, and she didn't know what they were. The entire appointment lasted about three minutes and I left feeling like it was a complete waste of the hour long drive over there!
She did state that since AP has been approved, I would be able to leave and have it couriered to me in Canada without abandoning my AOS. She didn't mention any of the concerns that have been brought up here (card not arriving before I have to return to US, errors on the card, etc). However, based on the fact that I seemed to have more knowledge of this system than she did, I'm not sure I'm comfortable taking her word for it. I think I will wait for the card for as long as I can, and if it hasn't arrived by my deadline, I'll leave without it and hope for the best!
Thank you again to everyone for your feedback. This forum is, as always, the best resource for information!

Thank you so much for the replies- I know it's a long shot, but I've made an Infopass appointment for Monday morning to see if I can get the card printed on the spot. If they're unable/unwilling to do that, I'll stay in the US until I receive the card to be sure I don't cause any issues. Hypnos, you make very good points and those are not risks I'm willing to take!
I'll update after the appointment Monday.

Hi everyone,
I just got the excellent news that my AP/EAD was approved. My sister had a child last week, and I am desperate to go visit/help out before beginning my full time career. I am scheduled to start working by November 5th, and would really love to spend a decent amount of time with my family before that date. Anyone have experience with traveling to your home country after approval but before having the AP card in hand? I could have my husband fedex it to me in Canada prior to returning, but don't want to risk potentially being denied re-entry.
Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this?
Thank you so much for your input!

Hi everyone,
I'm getting all the info ready for AOS (from K1), and have a question about form I-693. I had my medical done at Woking Medical in Vancouver last month, and paid $50 to receive the additional sealed envelope.
Should I be submitting this envelope right away with AOS forms? Would this be in place of I-693? With this envelope/vaccine documentation worksheet, do I need to see a civil surgeon in the US for anything AOS-related?
Thank you for your help!

Congrats CANbirdUSman!!!
That's wonderful news- and thanks for the consulate review... great information!
On another note, I got my bank draft for the medical exam today, and decided to get it made out for $400 to cover the cost of the medical and the extra envelope for AOS. Does anyone know if this is okay, or do I need two separate bank drafts ($350 and $50)?

You guys are wonderful!! Thank you all so much for clearing those up. I feel much better prepared!
Good luck tomorrow, CANbirdUSman- let us know how it goes!

I’m getting ready for my K1 interview (July 26) in Vancouver, and am hoping to use the expertise of some of you who have gone through the Vancouver Consulate. Though I feel like I’ve looked into this a zillion times, I still have a few questions I’m hoping you guys can help me clear up.
I’m also trying to make the AOS stage easier, so have some questions about what I can do now to make that go more smoothly. Any tips/advice that I don’t ask about is also very welcomed!
1. Vancouver P3 states “birth certificates”. Does this mean I also need an original of the USC’s certificate, or just my own? Same question for Police Certificates- just for the beneficiary, or for the petitioner too?
2. Someone once mentioned they ordered two original copies of their long form birth certificate. Is this necessary, or will one original (with extra photocopies) be enough?
3. Does Woking give you DS-3025 and 1-693A at the medical? And are both of these necessary?
4. I believe a TB test and syphilis test are necessary for AOS, but maybe not for K1 (?). Does Woking test for these? If not, can I ask for them to?
5. I keep reading about signing up for DHL, but am not sure how/where to do this. Does this apply for Vancouver? When signing up for my interview, it said Loomis would be used to return my passport, and that I could log into my account to get the waybill # once approved. Which account does this refer to? The CSC Visa website account?
6. Last question- any suggestions on how early to arrive before the scheduled interview time?
I think that’s it for now... I feel a bit like my head is spinning though, so will probably realize I’ve missed some questions later
Thank you all for your help! I’ve appreciated everything I’ve learned through all of you so far, and have no doubt this will continue through the next stage!

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to pass on some info for anyone who may be entering the P3 stage of their K1 process... I learned from the NVC that our case had been forwarded to the Vancouver Embassy on July 6th. I emailed Vancouver today to request that they send me P3 via email rather than snail mail, and instructions for P3 were returned within a few hours! Definitely cuts down on a few days mail time, and we all know how much difference a few days can make in our situations
Hope this helps someone!

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! I was very surprised to get the letter so early, but certainly excited to have it. Good luck to everyone else- hopefully this is a sign that they're speeding things up!
