  1. I'm trying to do the same, and it's still not easy and we have to learn patience...It will be a long process unfortunately.

I filed the k-1 in October and this whole process will more than likely take up to a year.

Wow, May God give us Grace and lot of patience... I have 2 more question when sending in the I-129f forms, do I send eveything in? letter of intent from both of us , emails, pictures, phone bills, facebook etc... Should I also state in the declaration letter of our first meeting how our relationship got started first and then progress into over first meeting or should I just write about our first meeting no prior history explaination? can I still visit him while we are waiting and everything to be process and finalized? I really appreciate everyone response to my postings,I pray everything will work out in all of our favor!

I would file the K-1 visa, because I also tried to get him over here 3 times for a tourist visa and each time he interviewed they told him he needs to get a fiancee visa. He told me that the consulate said that if he came to the US on a tourist visa that he would not come back :bonk: which was unfair the consulate assumed that he wouldnt, my fiance has reason to have come back to ghana, he has a daughter and property and a business there. But even with all of that, they didnt issue a tourist visa. He wasted time and money filing for a tourist 3 times, and I wished everyday that we would have just gone the k-1 route over a year ago.

Good luck to you on your journey!

That is correct. For us we we had visa in hand December and he arrived in December. We did a notary wedding in Feb and then had the wedding in October. I had started planning before the interview but didn't make any deposits not knowing for sure until he was here. K-1 is still faster then other options.

For the G-325 yes that is what you would do.

Suggestion- read up. Figure out what you will need after NOA-2 (which is about 5-6 months) as you move into the Embassy phase so you are ready to go. Ghana really likes Tax Transcripts over W-2s, so right now you can get the last two years (and then your 2011 in July or so of this year). If you can't get 2011 before the interview copies of filing do work, but transcripts preferred.Photos arranged nicely, passport copies, boarding passes etc... more the better. Keep things easily organized and not too bulky to go under the window at the embassy.

Wait for Medicals until you know you have an interview date. (They are good for a year- so you wont have to re-do for AOS once they are here).

Police Cert in Accra should be no more then a month old (about 20-40GHC depending on who you know). This has to be requested at the OSU police station in Accra.

Getting prepared will help to ease the process....

  2. Africans rarely get visitors visas, too many of them don't go home afterwards so they all pay the price for that behavior. The typical petition take 5-6 months to get approved in the US and then goes to the embassy for the interview , Hopefully Ghana has approved but that part alone used to take over a year.

Wow! I'm in awe.. ok so I'll hold off on making finally wedding arrangements until his visa is approved. just dont like last minute planning...I'm a little disappointed that our wait might be that long but I'm trusting God that it moves quickly...

One other question, my fiance father is discease but on the G-325A that he has to file out it asked for his ( father) residence what do I put? should I just write discease?

Thank you so much for your imput, this is very helpful to us

It took us about a year... things move at different speeds at different times. But May is WAY TOO soon. We went the easier route and had my parents go to Ghana to meet him because it was important to us to...

But I would not plan for this May, maybe next May? But i wouldnt put deposits that are non-refundable because you could be out lots of money. 5-6 months seldom happens and certainly not in Accra!

  3. I would suggest not to pick a date yet because of Ghana. Things vary so much.... Be safe, have the legal wedding first, if needed, then have the big one later. That is what we did so we could plan and enjoy the process of having the wedding. Depending on what you are looking for in the wedding....

Being christian he wanted to come here to the US to meet my family so he applied for the tourist visa but he was denied it, the consulate didnt give him a reason for the denial just that he should graduate bible college and then try again. I went to Ghana for his graduation in December 2011 now I'm back. so everyone is saying not to set my wedding date for May? someone told me it only take 5 to 6 mths for the visa. Is the process that long?

    Yes there is.

OP: as mentioned, a May wedding is not going to happen. But you can file for the K1 as soon as you are ready; assuming he was denied for the tourist visa for "lack of ties" it will not affect the K1 at all, because you are meant to immigate with that visa.

  5. My fiancee and I have been friend since 2007, in june 2011 He finally proposed, he tried obtaining a tourist visa to come vist and meet the family but he was turned down in September 2011, so this past december I went to Ghana for his graduation from Ministry College and to finally meet the family now I am back home, and I was wondering how long should I wait before I can file for the K1-visa. Someone told me I have to wait 6mths after his interview date for the tourist visa and another told me to start today. What should I do? I would really appreciate someone helping me, we are planning for a May wedding...
