Hi Experts,
We are preparing I-485 to file Adjustment of Status from K1. Due to a medical condition in my family aboard, there may be a need to travel. Looks like there is this form I-131 that will allow us to do exactly that. I was wondering if we need to include this fee along with the I-485 filing fee or is this fee waived when filing concurrently? Also, if it is not waived, do I send a separate cheque or one for the total amount?
Any help or direction in this matter would be much appreciated.
Thank you,

Awesome -- Thank you. Will do as you suggested.

I am not sure if I am in the correct forum but hope I will get some guidance here. After sever months of struggle, my fiancee(now Wife) finally got to US last month on K-1 visa and we got married couple weeks ago. Our marriage certificate is here as well.
So I have few questions:
- My wife wants to change her last name. What is the correct procedure of doing this? Can we just do it while we apply for change of status?
- Also she hasn't applied for SSN yet for the same reason. How can we get a SSN with her changed name?
I hope I am not taking too long to do anything and doing everything correctly. Please advice how I should proceed.

Thank you guys for the useful information
So if I understood correctly, we need to get her SSN card before we can actually get married in court right -- except in Vegas

Hi Guys,
My fiancee will be here next week and I am looking to get married in next week or so. I was checking our local probate court requirements for marriage. It seems like she needs to have SSN. How is that possible? Can she apply for SSN before registering the marriage or how does this work? Can someone please help me out here. Am I missing something in the process?
Thank you Guys !!

Apparently on Wednesdays they close at noon --- So I never go through them....

Something just crossed my mind -- It doesn't mean our application is under Administrative Review, is it? I hope I am wrong because I hear it takes long time in such case. I am super worried... sorry for being so stupid

Hello, so bad this is happening, but did they keep her passport??? It's normal they give back all the evidence of the relationship (pictures, letters, etc) during the interview.
Hope you she gets an answer soon.
Yes they still have her Passport and all other original documents including the one that they requested after the interview date. Is it okay for them to not give a reason or not give a decision and simply ask to wait; and without any estimation?
Thank you all for your reply, I will call the DOS, I think there was a typo in the number but I figured it out from their website that it is 202-663-1225. I will update once I call the Embassy and the DOS.
Once again thank you and Hope is still alive..

My Fiancee' had an interview for K1 Visa on 14th of Feb 2012, in Kathmandu, Nepal. They requested original birth certificate in Nepali, despite the fact they only asked for translation a week before they scheduled the interview. They said they would call if more document needed, but never did. Anyways, so she went next day as the Consular had asked her to come with the Birth Certificate so that they could schedule another appointment for the interview.
So she goes there with the document and the response she gets is, "We'll call you" !! She requested for interview date and they mentioned, her interview was already conducted and that was the only document they required, and asked her to wait for the call. No ETA whatsoever
Previous day on the interview all they asked her was her name and if she had that birth certificate. Apparently, they made her sign some form and returned some of the evidence of relationship such as Photographs, call logs, email logs etc. However, they still kept the passport and other original documents.
She called back the next day and visited the embassy the day after as well. All they kept saying was they'll call her and wouldn't confirm or deny if she was approved or not !!!
I had plans for her to come here this week and we were planning to get married 2nd week of March. All this is falling apart now and this uncertainty is killing us both. I don't know what to do and where to look for help...
Any help at all?? Anyone have any idea what this means? Any one ever had such situations before? Anyone have any idea? Please please please.. PLEASE HELP !!!!!
:crying:

Based on your income ALONE - you do not need a sponsor and you do not need to list anything else.
You make way more than needed to sponsor her by yourself on just income alone.
Is there a good link listing all the documents required for the Interview? I googled it and found various results. Not sure what exactly would be good.
Appreciate your response for the earlier query though.
Thanks a bunch !!

I am currently awaiting NVC to forward my approved I129-F petition to the US Consulate of my Fiancee's home country. I am not sure what all documents I can probably start preparing for her Interview. But I am mainly concerned about the Sponsorship Requirement.
- What kinds of document do I need to provide to prove I am capable of taking care of her?
- I owe two vehicles as an asset but that's all the property I have. Probably the market value would not be more than $9000/-
- I have a job and been working in the same company for over 3 years now and earn about $54K/year.
- I don't really have a saving account and very minimum checking balance.
[*]With the above stated scenario, would you guys think I probably should look for a joint-sponsorship? Or would I be fine with the employment letter? Also would I need to provide a bank statement even though the balance is so low?

I'd really appreciate your feedback and expertise in this matter. I am dying to be with her and these kinds of scenarios makes me very nervous. Any help PLEASE !!

The issue comes up three times a day
ALL petitions go to NVC. ALL. Petitions. NO exceptions.
Awesome -- I guess !! Thank you all for the reply. This makes me wanna ask another question.
So how will I know once it has reached my Fiance's home country's US Embassy/Consulate? Is it only after the Embassy contact's my Fiance' or does NVC sends me a notification stating that they have forwarded to certain consulate?
Thank you !!

I filed I129-F Petition for Fiancee` Visa(K1) around August 15th and received my NOA1 around the 20th of that month, stating USCIS received it on 17th. After waiting impatiently for over 4 months, USCIS finally approved my petition on the 21st of December (Merry Christmas). Here is where the confusion starts.
The blogs and information on the USCIS websites states, once the petition is approved, they send the approved petition to the NVC(National Visa Center). However, the NOA2 I received states they have forwarded the approved application to the "Consulate listed" and I should contact them for further information. The problem is, I looked at the entire NOA2, front and back, only to find they didn't list the name of the Consulate they sent the application to, that is if they did. Here are some of the questions I have and would appreciate your expertise.
- Is anyone aware if the process changed? Meaning instead of sending to NVC, are they directly sending to Consulate instead?
- Is this simply a typo? Well this definitely is a typo(I think). But the question is did they intended to type NVC instead of Consulate or did they really mean consulate and just forgot to type the consulate's information? Any thoughts?
- What do I do now? I tried to contact the US Consulate in my Fiancee's home country as they have only 1 office there but they mentioned they have not received the application yet.
- Is there a way I can verify if NVC has received my application? Can I call them or contact them without any NVC case number? How can I do so?
- With all these in mind, how far away am I before getting my fiancee' here to plan my wedding?
Once again I'd like to thank you for your valuable time and any information that could help me.
Thank you !!
