  1. Hi everyone!

Quick question.. I'm coming up on my 5 year Green Card anniversary in November of this year and I've been thinking a lot lately about the naturalisation process. At this point, I'm going to wait until the 5 year mark to simplify the process for myself, regarding evidence, etc..

But I'm wondering when should I actually submit? Is the 5 years based on post mark, or processing date, or interview? I'm just wondering if I can submit it a couple of months earlier and have it be ok...

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

  2. If I remember correctly, I had my medical on the Monday and I raced in on the Friday mid-afternoon to pick it up and post it off with my Packet 3 from the city PO which is right near-by.. I did phone them to hound them on the Thursday though, so not sure if that helped or hindered at all. I think that is the usual process time though, 3-5 days..

I doubt the police station would be open to do it on the weekend.. I had to be taken to the back and be finger-printed with ink. I think some states do it digitally, but it was ink for me.. Damn messy.. But they had some trainees in that station (hendra) and so they used it as a reason to teach them how to do it. I have heard they can only do it if there are no real arrests going on at the time, so they might ask you to come back if that is the case, or make an appointment.

  3. I'm from Brisbane and I got my police check done at the local police station (with finger prints taken) before my petition was approved or I had a case number, and there was no problem whatsoever. I had them send it to my home address. On the form you fill out, you have the option for them to send it to the consulate, or to your own address.

Also, I did try to book in my medical exam around the same time but they wouldn't allow it, as they didn't want to risk it getting lost at the consulate without having the case number. I know a few people on here have managed to get their medicals done in Brisbane without their case numbers, so maybe it depends on what secretary you get at the time? I'm not sure..

Eitherway, the wait time to get a medical, back in Feb 2012, was about 1-2 weeks. So my advice would be to book your medical as soon as you get the case number from your petition approval and you should be able to get the appointment without it eating in to your wait-time too much, if at all.

    Hope this helps!

  4. Hey everyone,

i'm just starting to get things sorted for the AOS stage of my process and I was looking at information on the medical requirements..

My question: I have a DS-3025 which seems to have been filled out, signed, etc, entirely. i don't require any new shots, some are "not age appropriate", and varicella is marked as immune with date of test, but.... the bottom box is ticked as "vaccine history complete for each vaccine" .. I've been reading posts on here that say it should be marked as "Vaccine history incomplete - with blanket waiver".. is this likely to be a big deal? Or is it quite normal?

I don't really want to have to find a CS, as there isn't one in this town, but I guess I will if I have to..

    Any advice appreciated! :)

    Cheers,

    Ben.

  5. Hey aussies,

i had my interview on tuesday 13th and it all went well at the time. There was a little hiccup with the i-134 as i was told unemployment benefits don't count as income because its only temporary, but luckily the assets were enough to cover (and i had a co-sponsor in my folder anyway).. But the CO who was interviewing me was running around asking alot of questions about it and at the end of the interview he said that "we met the financial requirements" and just warned me about the adjustment of status phase and what to expect with the i-864.. he then said that we were finished and i asked him.. "so i'm approved?" .. and he said, "yep, you're approved, we'll take care of it from here." He then closed my folder with my little approval slip in it!

It didn't click until I had already gone downstairs..

Initially I was stoked that I was approved but now waiting for the visa to come my mind is playing tricks on me..

Is that something I should be concerned about, or should I just chill-da-f-out? haha..

    Cheers,

    Ben.

  6. You should get it real soon. You can email the consulate to let them know you haven't received it yet just to make sure they didn't send it to the wrong email or something. Some get it within a week. Someone else I know was waiting a couple of weeks and when they eventually got it the interview was the following week.

Thanks for that, I just emailed them. I figured it can't hurt and at least that way I've put it out there.

  7. Hey people,

What's a reasonable wait time to receive packet 4 before contacting the consulate?

I sent my packet 3 on the 10th of Feb, arrived and signed on 13th with no word as yet.

I've wanted to email them but kinda know i'll just be pulling out my hair waiting for a reply to that too.. lol.

    Ben.

  8. Hey people,

I have read through the instructions and read posts on the procedure for the packet 3 material, and it just doesn't translate clearly to me.

Do I submit the DS-230 (part 1) by itself, first?

Do I then gather all the necessary documents together and post them with the DS-156/K & DSL-1076 to get the interview? Or.. do I just send in the check-list and keep the evidence for the interview?

What about the I-134? Do i post that in or take it with me to the interview?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben.

  9. Hi people,

After an excruciating wait our i-129f was approved last week and we are trying to get all our information ready ahead of the packet 3.. It feels good to have that first step out of the way tho!

Usually my fiancee would be in a position to provide sponsorship without a problem, but she lost her job mid-last year and has been on unemployment benefits since. She's trying to start up her own business, but that's another story....

So with the unemployment and her assets, she probably would be above the poverty guideline, but we want to provide a co-sponsor just in case.. So her proof will be: proof of unemployment benefits, tax forms (last 3 years to prove she's usually in work), deed to her house, 401k, bonds and shares... Does this sound like the right kind of proof they're looking for?

Also, the co-sponsor will probably be her Dad, and even though he is retired, he has assets and savings well and above the poverty guideline.. I don't know how the tax system works in the states, but I assume tax forms would be enough, given that his assets and savings would provide him with taxable income from interest, etc? What kind of proof would be required in this situation?

Any help would be appreciated, I know these i-134 questions probably drive alot of people up the wall, but we want to get it right!

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben.
