  1. Congrats! so happy for you. Was it a 10 year? Ali went for Biometrics again today so hopefully we will join you soon.[

    /quote]

    Many thanks JH!!

    That is great news for you and Ali. You can see from our timeline...after the second Biometrics, it was not long...relatively speaking that is :)

    We will keep our fingers crossed that your timeline continues to mirror ours and you have your card before the end of summer.

    The card was a Permanent Resident Card but it still needs to be renewed in 2 years. Then if we understand things correctly, a year after that we can begin naturalization. Ohhh boy...another journey into the USCIS maze.

    All the best JH... :dance::dance:

  2. Congrats!!!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance::dance: to the "old timers"!!! . I think a flood of tears is appropriate!!!!!It does consume you at times this whole waiting.

    Our congressman liason is almost "rude" to the point we are bothering him. Did you apply only to the congressman in you local area Laura and Mark.I want as many of our elected to help us out at this point!!

    Oct 2005 was our interview.

    Our US Representative Hoekstra's local Michigan office was most helpful for us. The liason has frequent and direct phone contact with USCIS in Detroit and she was able to help sort things out for us. And she did it with the courtesy and sympathy we deserved.

    Apparently there were some clerical errors to our file (THEIR errors by the way) way back in Vancouver at our K-1 interview. Those errors cause the computer to spit out our file during processing and once it landed in someone's pile, it took much longer to process by hand.

    I hope you can find the support you need to help you through the maze. Be patient...

  3. I mean think about this insanity folks...

    Our Visa Journey started in Nebraska, March 2004...I believe the files passed briefly through Chicago (someone needed to "touch" them) before arriving in Nebraska?

    After wallowing in someones file pile in Nebraska for months...it was on to Vancouver BC. Only now we had to get there in person. Whatever...at least now Laura and the boys were able to move to Michigan, and we were could wade together though this mire.

    What a wonderful marriage and honeymoon we had :dance::dance:

    Now was on to Detroit...but not before fingerprints in Grand Rapids. Progress eh...at least now they are in the same state as us. Instead of a four hour flight it is only a four hour drive. Yes, they want to see us AGAIN in person.

    Now the real fun begins. The 6 weeks we were told turned into months that turned into years, as we wallowed in piles who knows were...FBI headquarters? Underground somewhere? Maybe we never left Detroit at all?? And they want me to believe this is the fault of the FBI??

    Finally with the help of Congress no less, we have movement... May 2007. And where does the letter come from?? Vermont!!! How the hell did we get to Vermont...and now Vermont tells us we have to go back to Grand Rapids.

    Whatever happened to Detroit? Did they go the way of Chicago and Nebraska and Vancouver and the FBI??

    And to think they want to add 12 million more "illegal" aliens into this mess? Somebody has their head somewhere and it ain't in the clouds.

    Now...to add insult to injury, we are involved in the current US Passport fiasco. This is loads of fun too. We get to spend hours on hold, listenting to elevator music, waiting for someone to tell us this is all "someone" else's fault. But "trust us"...it will only take a few days...or weeks...or months...or...

    ...

    ...

    ...

    Don't get me wrong, I am proud to be an American...

    But sometimes I feel like we are on some Titanic...slowly sinking into an abyss.

    Keep dancing :dance::dance:

  4. It is a pain, but it must be encouraging to have some movement on your case after so long! That's curious that you were told not to travel until this is clear. If you have a valid AP, what's the problem?

    Anyway, good luck.

    Thank you...yes it is encouraging and now we are wondering how long between fingerprints and card in hand. As you can imagine, we are not counting the days or making any predictions. With these yahoos days have a way of turning into weeks and weeks into months, and...so it goes...

    Regarding travel, our initial AP documents had expired. In March we reapplied. They cashed our checks and sent the letter saying 60-90 days to process, but apparently there will be no processing as long as our case is in it's current status. Maybe...just maybe we will get the cards instead...and hopefully the 10 year cards. Our rep said they would back date..whatever that means. Sounds like covering their sorry azzes.

    The travel would not be too big an issue, but we have a special family trip planned for the end of June with my kids and Laura would certainly love to go with us. We are keeping fingers and toes crossed.

  5. Update from michigan..

    We made an infopass appt first week in April and found out FBI namecheck was approved and received at USCIS on march 31, 2007. Waited about a month....Still nothing, so first week in May we reconnected with our US Representatives liason office. The very nice lady responded the next day to our email and told us she would contact the detroit field office and inquire...again...

    This time she phoned us a week later. She felt we deserved more personal contact than an email. She said she had talked to detroit and they did have our file in a pile and they did have the approved name check. In so many words, she told them to get movingon it pronto, as it is a disgrace and embarrassment how long these people have waited. They also told her the detroit field office was going through an audit (What's that all about??) and so it would take a few days. Our liason told us if we had not received our green card in 6 weeks to contact her again.

    May 8... USCIS (out of Vt??) issued a letter requiring another appt on May 23 (at another field office..GR) to update fingerprints. SOooo...we will see what happens after that.

    Our liason told us that part of the reason it has taken so longto process our application goes back to a paper error made during our K-1 interview in the Vancouver office back in 2004. They issued the same A# to both my wife and step son. So each step of the way, the computer system has spit out our application to be processed by hand by someone at sometime. Thus the piles...after pile...after pile...

    Another thing she told us...no travel out of the countrly until this is resolved, ...even though they recently cashed our check to reapply for AP.

    I have never been involved with such a bureaucratic fiasco in all my 50 plus years. If we ran our lives as they run their business, we would be dead. We can only hope USCIS someday reaches a similiar demise.

    I guess the bottom line is...mistakes cost us...not USCIS...even when they make them. Be persistent...be vigilant...be patient...

    All the best to all those waiting...and waiting...

    Mark & Laura :dance::dance:

  6. Sorry, but this isnt true. My son got his AOS approved and got his GreenCard 2 weeks after his interview. My wife is still waiting for her namecheck to be approved, so her GC is still pending!

    Patrick

    Sorry you are waiting too.

    When it comes to USCIS and the entire bureacracy of immigration and security, it seems one hand never knows what the other is doing. Some type of central brain dysfunction I suspect??

    With patience and persistance, we will perservere...we certainly hope...

    M&L :dance::dance:

  7. But at least it looks like something is happening, and its odd that Mark and Laura have almost the same timeline as us.

    Mark and Laura are you showing any change when you login to the USCIS? Ours still has the March 2, 2005 on it.

    We show no change in status on USCIS either.

    Guessing our files are nearby each other in a pile SOMEWHERE...waiting for SOMEONE...to do SOMETHING... :whistle:

    PLEASE DO SOMETHING SOON PLEASE

    We want to be free... :dance::dance:

  8. UPDATE!!!

    We made the drive to Detroit for a 12;30 PM infopass appt yesterday. Went through the guards and metal detectors (why is everyone so stern, unfriendly, and miserable looking??) Got there half an hour early and there was only one couple waiting. Two people came in without appts and were minimally helped by the receptionist. By the nature of their questions, you could tell those were virtually clueless...definitely not reading visajourney message boards :)

    We got called up to the window within 5 minutes. So far so good!

    The lady behind the counter seemed to keep the hairs on her neck in a constant state of arousal, so she her initial response to us was...

    what you doin here...you wastin your time makin a trip here...there is nutin we can do to speed up this process...the delays are not the fault of USCIS...we have to coordinate with other agencies over which we have no control...your wait time is not out of line...you can't go by that date...OK...what's your A number...no I don't need your son's...he won't get his approval till you get yours....

    We cautiously handed over our document and she punched the numbers into the computer. By this time we had humored her and stroked her a bit...enough to let her know we were not there to attack or blame...merely check our status in person to make sure there were no problems mon.

    Then nonchalantly, she says...by the way, your name check has came back. We said, no it hasn't. She said yes it has, right here...approved and returned on March 30. YOU ARE NOT KIDDING...WOW...needless to say we were elated and dancing and even got a smile from the lady behind the counter. I suspect not many smiles in that office on any given day.

    She said it has to go across the street for processing, but look for something in the mail within 30 days. UNBELIEVABLE!! Seems I remember someone a couple years ago telling us it should only take a few weeks...

    But regardless...we breath a sigh of relief and dance on out of there. On the way out Laura points to her lips and says to the guards...see this...this is a smile...we are leaving here happy. All three of the men had a good chuckle over that one.

    It just so happens that a month ago, Laura had refiled for travel documents. She thinks that shook the bush in Missouri and someone found our file sitting there ready to move on. But it isn't USCIS's fault for the delays...no sir...

    So they got another $340 out of us. :wacko:

    And as the lady behind the counter said...

    trust me on this one...you probably won't get no money back...we take money...we ain't in the business of givin money back to people...

    We said... that's OK...we aren't expecting to get any money back from USCIS...just hoping and praying for a green card.

    So while we don't have that slimy little card yet, we are getting closer...so close we can smell it!!

    Best wishes to everyone...especially journeyhelper as we go back a long ways...we are cheering for you too!!

    Keep on dancing

    :dance::dance: Mark & Laura

  9. Hey Laura and Mark I was just wondering about you two. I can't believe you are stuck in here also! Can you remember when we thought we were at the end of this ha! ha!

    Hello Elsa and Ali...yes, it was a long time ago we were stuck together in Nebraska. Much has happened since those days and still we wait...and wait...

    At least during this wait, we are together. :)

    I am not sure the burearacracy will ever stop. It just keeps getting deeper and deeper...

    Nevertheless...we are dancing :dance::dance:
