  1. So my 2 year green card expires on September 10th. I am starting to get the evidence together to remove conditions. However, from June 22nd to August 13th I will be in Europe on vacation- my contract position with Microsoft ended and I thought i'd take advantage of a vacation having saved money up, I have another contract lined up in August. I am worried that if I send off the paperwork this week that i'll miss my biometric appointment. Should I go ahead and file this week or wait until I get back in August?

With the packet I will contain:

    Check

    Cover letter,

    Form I-751

Copy of Green card front and back

    Evidence:

Joint bank account statements over the last 2 years

2 joint credit card statements over the last 2 years

Copies front and back of both our WA state drivers licenses with our joint address

    Joint car insurance tabs

2 years of joint tax returns and w2's

Family pictures from the last 2 years

Copy of our sons birth certificate, photos of the birth, photos of us together with the baby over the last year

Vacation evidence since I got my green card: trip to San Francisco- flight tickets, photos. pictures from Vancouver BC, Seaside Oregon, Burning Man, 4

I'm also tempted to include joint flight tickets for my upcoming trip and hotel/rental car bookings to Iceland, Scotland, turkey, Spain and Portugal

I'm going to try and dig out Christmas cards with both our names on it.

However, I'm nervous as my name is not on the house lease. My landlord knows I live here and she said she'd add me to the lease but hasn't got around to it. I haven't wanted to push her on it as the rent for the place is cheap for Seattle prices and I worry she'd raise it. Same goes for utility bills- never got round to changing them due to hassle.

We also don't have joint health insurance as it was too expensive to add my wife to mine, so she has her own. No 401k.

What other evidence could I provide? We each have our own cars, they have our separate names on each title but it's registered to the same address.

I was also thinking 2 or 3 affidavits from friends or family.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Paul

  2. Hey guys. I recently received my Green Card and on my forms I ticked the box that allowed USCIS to register me for Select Service on my behalf. I want to do this so I can receive my citizenship in a few years. I'm just wondering how long I should wait to find out if they have registered me or if not when to register myself. What are people's experiences of this? I'm 24 next week so have a year to do it.

  3. Dunno where you can get a cert. copy of your marriage licence.... I got ten copies of mine for $3@ at the King County Recorders Office in downtown Seattle. It seems that everyone and his mother wants a certified copy of the marriage license. Check at the county/parish clerk/records office, or your state department of records/health/vital statistics, etc., it varies from location to location.

Try doing a Google search, google can be your friend.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

When was this? I went in May to get them and it was $5 for 2 copies. The reason being that when you get married they do not give you a certified copy of your certificate.

  4. Hi everybody!

I had my AOS interview today at the Seattle office and everything went great. I've checked my online status on the USCIS website and my green card is in production. I just want to thank everybody for their help in guiding me through each stage of the k1 and AOS process and answering my question and addressing my worries. I would probably have made many mistakes and had a great deal more to worry about. I'm glad I now have a a bit of a break between now and my removal of conditions.

    Thanks again,

    Paul

  5. Thanks for the great help so far to get me to this point of my immigration journey!

So I received my work permit on the 4th of August and today found out my AOS interview is on the 10th of September at the Seattle NBC. I have a bit of time to prepare but I just want to make sure what I have is enough. At the moment my wife and I have a joint bank account, car insurance with our names on it, flight tickets with our names together from our honeymoon to NYC, a ton of photos from the wedding and throughout this year then of me, my wife and my step kids. I aim to try and get my drivers license before the date so we can both show we have the same address on it. Due to me only just receiving my work permit I am still job hunting for now and with my wife being self employed we don't have health insurance to show as joint. I'm also still not on the lease as it does not expire until the end of the year (will be put on it when renewed). What else would you guys recommend? Should that be enough?

  7. I sent my AOS package on the 29th of May and received an RFE on the 16th of June to get a co-sponsor. On the RFE it stated that my temporary work permit would be paused until I had responded to the RFE which I sent away at the start of July. Since then, I have had my biometrics on the 24th of July and on the USCIS website today it says my work permit has been approved and is being posted out but my I-485 status still says says request for evidence response review. Does the fact that my work permit is now being posted mean that my RFE response information has been accepted or does the work permit application automatically unpause when USCIS receive the RFE evidence, regardless if its accepted or not?

  8. I'm currently waiting for my EAD and Greencard having applied in May and have my biometrics appointments next Tuesday. MY I-94 is expired now but I do have my SSN. I notice some states issue drivers licences when an EAD is issued. Is this the case with Washington state or will I have to wait on my greencard? I've tried looking at their DMV website but cannot make sense of it. Completely fed up having to carry my passport around everywhere to buy alcohol.

  9. It says Based on the documents sumbmitted with Form I-864, Affidavit of support, for the petitioner/sponsor, the income did not meet 125% (100% if military) of the federal poverty line for the petitioner/sponsor's household size.

Submit evidence of assets that meet the standards listed below or obtain joint sponsor.

Assets standards must equal the stated difference between the sponsor's household income and 125% (100% if military) of the federal poverty line.

My wife is self employed- with our i-864 I submitted last years full tax return, a copy of her book contract stating the amount she would receive in advance money, a copy of her contract with her online TA'ing job stating her position along with 6 of her most recent pay stubs, w-2 and 1099's, a summary of her bank statement which gave the amounts in our checking/savings accounts as of May 2012 and a copy of her court documents detailing child support payments. This would have been $30,000 in total but on her tax return it says $26,000 as the child support is not taxable which is why I thought it might be that.

  10. So I got an RFE last Friday stating that my wife's salary did not meet the 125% poverty requirements and that I require a co-sponsor. We thought we made enough but it seems USCIS will not take into account my wife's child support. I'm going to use my wifes step father as sponsor. As mentioned above I have a letter from the state showing that he receives $40,000 per year for permanent disability as he cannot work. I know I will also need a copy of his birth certificate as well. What else would I require from him bearing in mind he is exempt from filing tax returns?

  11. I'm currently working through the paperwork for the Adjustment of Status and I have a few questions to ask.

    1. I'm sending the I-765 and I-131. Going by the guide, I take it I have to supply 6 passport photos American sized?

    2. For my I-864 I was planning on using my wifes step father as a co sponsor. My wife made $30,000 this year but hasn't the two years previous. Her step father is on permanent disability and has given me a letter from Washington states department of labor and industries. This letter states that he is on total permanent disability commencing in 2007 and receives x amount per month which equates to around over $40,000. (No dependants). He is therefore exempt from paying taxes and does not file tax returns. He has also filled out the affidavit of support which which includes the real estate he owns. What else do I need to provide in the absence of tax returns?

    3. Can anyone in the greater Seattle area recommend a cheap civil surgeon to transcribe my vaccination records for my I-693. Have had my medical in London already, just need the vaccination records updated that I got after the medical.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  12. Looking at the thread, I signed my receipt before the interview and gave it during it. To be honest she just glanced at it and made sure it had my name on it then just ticked it off her check list. I'm sure they would just make him/her sign it during the first part of the embassy stage when they check the documents, considering most people do not send it in advance. If you are worried i'd just take a copy of the receipt that is signed to the interview if they query it but I doubt thats the reason for the delay. I saw people who hadn't paid, being sent to another desk to pay for it and come back with their receipt. Did you put a departure date on the form? I put mid march and April as my wedding date on the cover letter and I noticed I got an appointment date before people who had submitted their paper work/medical before me but had no/ a later departure/wedding date.

I didn't pay for my visa until I received an appointment letter which I could only get once I sent my forms and had my medical. They checked over the forms that they had my forms and medical before they would let me pay for the visa. This was only 2 weeks ago I paid for it.

  14. You have a good chance of a late February date. Nobody really knows. K1's normally get an interview letter.

Go over the document list for your interview again. When I re-read this old thread, from the questions you asked, it sounded like you hadn't really read and studied London's website and were getting your information from threads. Even this thread had some wrong information (I-864 for your interview is for spouse visas).

    http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html

I have read it, I think my issue is that once I feel secure I have everything I read somewhere else about needing previous marriage certificates etc that the embassy site does not mention. Likewise when I read people getting appointments through email and post which then makes me panic that i've forgot or had not read something. So I think I tend to post for reassurance and peace of mind more than anything. This site and everyone posting in this thread have certainly helped me so far whilst waiting on my NOA 2 and before my medical, I would have been a nervous wreck without everyone on here's help.

At the moment still waiting on my appointment date. I think once I know the embassy date i'll relax a hell of a lot more. We're still hoping for an April 7th wedding date but we can't finalise everything without the visa obviously. If the visa appointment is any later than mid march we'd have to move the date to July to give both our families enough notice with travelling etc. Here's hoping I hear back soon.

  15. I had my medical on the 13th of January and all went well. Forms were sent my recorded delivery on the 4th of january, includong cover letter. Just waiting on my interview date. We were planning on marrying in April and have put a deposit down on a venue (this date can be moved if needed). I mentioned that on the cover letter and that if it would be possible to get a February interview date. What do you think the chances of this happening are? I don't mind a march date but February would give me more time to tie loose ends in the uk. Also is it through post or email you get your appointment date?

  16. Had my medical on the 13th. Was scheduled for 10am. My bus from Glasgow got in at 6am so had 4 hours to kill. London was freezing that day so I decided to walk around for about and grab a coffee to kill time. Got bored though and went to the medical centre at9 and they took me right away. Filled out the questionnaire they provided then was taken to a room where I got a chest X-ray. All they do is tell you to take deep breaths against the machine with your top off. Once done I was told everything seemed fine and sat back in the waiting room. After 5-10 minutes a second woman took me into a different room. She went over my vaccination records. I need a second mmr jag and a tetanus shot. She said she assumes I got that shot at 15 from

School so if I tell my gp he should update the record. Need a glue shot to but she said not to worry as my aos will likely be outwith flu season. She said as it was a k1 that I can get these shots anytime before my aos and signed me off.

After another 5 minute wait I was taken into a third room. Here the woman sits you down and asks if you've had any operations, alcoholism, depression etc to which I didn't. She then took me height, weight and eye sight test. Once done I sat on the bed where she checks your breathing, eyes, eats and glands. I was then made to lie on a bed where she checks your stomach and hernia. She also asked if I'd been circumcised and wanted to check down below to check. The last part of the medical was my blood pressure and blood test. I am absolutely terrified of drawing blood, a fact I told her when she noticed my Blood pressure was slightly high. I also made the mistake of drinking strong coffee. She tried to relax me and instead tried to take the blood from me. As I was still cold from walking about my gains had collapsed and after the second attempt I had to go back to the waiting room to heat up and get circulation back whilst she heated the room up. After 15 minutes I was called back in and they managed to get it. Of course the wait in the hall madee

Even more Anxious and she waited a couple of minutes after the blood drawing for me to relax before he took

My pressure again. She managed to Get a reading within the limit and that was me. Lesson of the day: don't drink coffee before hand and if it's cold wrap up warm before it. She said everything Seemed fine and if there was any issues they'd call me by the Tuesday with the results to the embassy by the Thursday 6 days later. Not had any phone calls so I assume all is well and now just waiting eagerly for my interview date!!!

  17. One last thing I need to ask. When I saw the experiences of people's interview they say bring an original and copy of police certificate and birth certificate. Will a Photocopy along with the original of both suffice or will I have to purchase a second copy from acro. Likewise will a photocopy of my fiancées first marriage and divorce decree be fine or do I need the originals of them?

  18. Apologies about the proof of relationship bit. I saw a topic on the main page that freaked me out about someone being denied due to lack of proof of that despite everyone else saying not to worry about that part. It is just the financial part i'm trying to sort just now.
