  1. I can see where my original post was confusing. I meant that I read in a forum that someone in a similar situation didn't receive notice that they were being summoned for an interview - presumably because their mailbox was not labelled properly. In the forum (I can't find it, otherwise I would post it) the same person mentioned that USCIS required labelled mailboxes - since I live in an apartment, I only have my room number on mine. I thought maybe this was a USCIS-specific requirement, since of course any other mail will arrive fine. Not sure the post office would be of much help - and contacting USCIS about anything is difficult.

Perhaps I misunderstood your inquiries.

If you are looking for information about delivery of mail service, mailboxes and address requirements of them, suggest you contact US Postal Service, or Google search for postal service regulations.

The USCIS forms and instructions I mentioned pertained to immigration information and instructions related to change of address requirements of USCIS.

Good luck on your visa journey

  2. It's been a long process so far-thanks for all your help. I'll definitely plan on helping others on here when this is all done.

Anyways, now we're planning on moving in a little over a month. We're just going maybe 2 miles away, but we don't like the apartment we are in. We just sent our AOS package (I-485, I-765, etc.) for K-1 on Monday.

On another forum, it appeared that it was possible - I would need to file AR-11 and call USCIS. I also found on another site that we cannot change address online if we used I-485.

I'm asking you all what the best course of action is, since you've always known the most so far.

Also - I read somewhere about a failed AOS application due to mail not showing up - and that perhaps the reason was not having a mailbox that was labeled. I guess we should do this - is there a standard format? Also are there any other things we need to be aware of related to this?

I am constantly finding tiny new things that we have to do - or that we're not allowed to do. Sorry that in my confusion I rely on this forum so much - but thanks for your patience!

  3. If you have a copy of the DS3025, just add it to the packet you'll send out.

Here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/388987-aos-ead-ap-checklist/page__p__5687165#entry5687165 on my post about my checklist, I added a PDF file with .. well... a checklist; that will help you.

Either way.. what's the worst that can happen? If they want something different when it comes to the vaccines, they will either let you know by an RFE or at the interview (if you get one). At least this time, if they RFE you, you are not far away from your wife and it doesn't add up time to the much expected reunion. You are together, and you can take care of things.

That is the way I see it and, of course, it doesn't mean you have to see that way. I just REFUSE to get all stressed out about AOS like we did with the K1 process.

Thank you. I think we're just going to do this. Actually we're only going to be in the US for a little over 1 year, then move back to Japan together. I need to be here for school so she came with me. We want to get everything approved quickly so she can start working, though. I had no idea how complicated the visa process would be.

  4. http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-693instr.pdf

In here, p.4 it says: "What if I am a k-1 visa holder and I already had a medical exam overseas"?

and then answer: basically as long as the 3025 is complete, it's ok. if not, you must see a civil surgeon.

    (I can't copy/paste from the pdf)

So it looks ok - but there's so much confusion over it on the internet.

Can I just print out this page, highlight that part, and attach it to a copy of the DS3025? Is that too cheeky?

  5. Thank you for your help so far.

We thought we were all set to send in our adjustment of status, then saw online that we would also need an I-693. Previously, we read "If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination transcription is required to be completed by seeing a Civil Surgeon to have certain portions of the I-693 completed and have the Civil Surgeon certify the form (sealing the original in an envelope and giving you a copy)." - #11 from http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos .

Our vaccination document worksheet says "vaccine history complete for each vaccine. all requirements met."

We don't want to keep putting this off, since my fiancee can't work until this is processed. Do we really need to go see a civil surgeon?

    Thank you

  6. K-1 people are not mailed the green card after entry anyways. Your going to put your new address / address again on the forms when you file for adjustment of status after marriage. That is what gets you the green card. You have more than enough time to find a place before your in the US and married and filing AOS.

Thanks for your response. Did you mean in your first sentence that K-1 people aren't mailed the green card until they have entered the US?

Also, for some reason I was under the impression that I would need to have my own address for the interview (I'm planning to live in HI - my parents live in the midwest but will receive and send mail/a greencard to me). I think part of the reason why I thought this was that (I had thought) my foreign fiancee must arrive by plane to the state in which we plan to reside.

Is this correct? If so, I thought that I needed an address so they would know which state she'll be coming to. I could be and hopefully am wrong on this point, as it would be much simpler to just arrive in the US once we get the temporary permission (without a set residence) and be able to look for and find an apartment.

Thanks for the help so far :)

  7. We are now on the DS-230, and question 10 is about our address 'if known', and 11 is for where we should mail the green card.

We can just send the green card to my parents in the mainland, but we are planning to move to Hawaii. The problem is that we can't find an apartment in Hawaii as it's the summer and every landlord I call says 'I won't know until within 30 days of August' (when I plan to move). Basically, when do I need to have my own address? It seems like on DS-230 I don't need one...how about for the interview? They'll at least need it so they know which state we'll be moving to, right?

    Thank you

One more question - on the 'affidavit of support' - I never got such a paper. Should I print this out and attach it to my fiancee's DS-230 form?

  8. Thanks so much, Penguin_ie.

If there's anyone on these forums who has done the k-1 while abroad, please let me know how it went. I want to know what to expect in terms of additional documents, timing, unforeseen difficulties, etc.

I always have such an uneasy feeling when dealing with government-related documents and permits. I'm always afraid of forgetting something that will be important later on.

  9. DCF is only available to spouses, not fiance visas. Additionally, there is no USCIS office in Japan, so DCF is no longer available to you- whether you file for a K1 (fiancee visa) or CR-1 (spousal visa), you will need to do so via normal channels in the USA. Apply asap to remain within your timeline.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm more interested in the K-1 visa. Can that be done while I am here in Japan?

    Thank you

  10. I looked on these forums, but couldn't find a situation exactly like mine.

I (US citizen) live in Japan, and have a contract until the end of July. I am planning to move to Hawaii in August with my Japanese fiancee.

I am not from Hawaii. I am from a different state. I also live in Japan now with my fiancee. We wish to apply for a visa here in Japan together so we can go to Hawaii together.

Is this DCF visa the way to go? And how does it fit in with the K-1? I'm very confused over all this, and would really appreciate some help.

PS I have relatives in America (not in Hawaii, though) who can help with sponsoring us, etc.

    Thank you!
