  1. My husband's passport (irish) expires this April. We want to travel in May and we are trying to get it renewed. We tried to call the department of foreign affairs in Ireland, but they don't take calls. We sent an e-mail and have had no response. I e-mailed the embassy here in the US today. Are we on the right track? What else can we do? Thanks for your help.

  2. Hi everyone, I need some clarification. My husband came here on his K1 and we got married 2 weeks ago. We are finishing up his Adjustment of Status paperwork and are a bit confused about AP.

On the form it asks you to list specific dates for travel. Problem is, we are not sure of our dates yet. His family wants to throw us a post-wedding party in Ireland, but we are not sure when. We don't want to delay filing the I-485 and we don't know how long it will take to get it approved... We know we will need AP in order for him to travel there. Can you file it with a "open" travel plan or do you need specific travel dates?

    Thanks in advance. Mel

  3. Thanks Sabi, as you know, with all the set-backs from start to finish, Ray would just feel safer picking it up. He would rather drive 2 hours there and back than wait for the post each day. I have a feeling it is not an option. They probably don"t want to encourage all that traffic in and out of the embassy. I am sorry you have no packet 4 yet. I hope you here something soon!

  4. Maybe I am coming from a very different relationship, but am I the only person who thinks it is a problem if you have to question if he has even filed? And you can't have a conversation about it without inducing anger? This is marriage we are talking about here! If you have doubts about this phase, what doubts will enter your relationship when it comes to moving? Money? and the countless other things that come up in marriage?

If he really has filed correctly he would have needed signed documents from you. He should have sent the packet and the money to Texas NOT California. If his intentions are good and he is just confused and frustrated, maybe you could suggest he join this site and read read read the info so that he can file correctly and you can begin your lives together.

I pray this all works out for you. It is a stressful time. Support each other and good luck on your journey.

  5. Oh my! Being married to 2 women is against the law. And, the wife he marries first would be his only "legal" wife. If you enter knowing you are not fulfilling the requirement of the K1 visa (by not getting married and just staying) you are committing visa fraud! He is disrespecting you and therefore is not a best role model for a child. Keep your job, stay where you are at, and be grateful this happened now and not later!

  6. I JUST CALLED ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY ARE NOW WORKING ON THE 6TH OF FEB, WOOOOOWWWWW!!!! JUST GOING MAD HERE NOW.

If that is the case, then you CAN file a service request. They are past your filing date. Did they start a service request for you?

My Visa has JUST arrived in hand! A massive envelope with huge black writing saying 'TO BE OPENED ONLY BY THE UNITED STATES IMMIGRATION OR PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE OFFICER"

It's finally over! 236 days after we first sent the package!

    Congrats to you! Great news!

  7. We have a case number. Yay! And we set our official wedding date and started booking our stuff. I hope Ray is here by November 3rd or that will be a disappointing wedding! blush.gif

How did all of you know when your case left for the embassy? By calling? She said they will send a notice, but I am assuming that is by regular mail, not e-mail. Is that correct?

Thanks all, have a great week!

  8. well I got a case number in just 12 days, others got theirs in under 10 just last week... I don't see a huge slow down there! After almost 6,5 months waiting 10-20 days is nothing :)

Hang in there people and support each other as much as you can! we have one person in our January family who passed 200 days mark yesterday and we are all rooting for her and others still waiting... we have been there so we know it's tough but once you get your NOA2 in a few days you will feel so much better, I promise! :) Good luck!

Thanks for the back-up Sabi! I think 10-12 days is pretty darn fast for NVC. I'll take it over the 195 I've already waited. In fairness, i think they were backed up over a month ago, but I think things seem to be back on track for them.

  9. Yep, DandD is spot on. If you get married and then try to enter, you will be in violation of the K1 visa (which is for a fiance only, not a married couple). The K1 is a single entry visa. Once you enter at a POE it is void, you then start your 90 days to get married. You have to get married in the US and can not leave without advance parol or adjustment of status after you have married. Good luck on your journey.

  10. Why does it keep happening when the directions are clear - DO NOT OPEN

I know right? Ray is so scared of doing something wrong... even if he was not warned, if he saw in large letters DO NOT OPEN, he would be so scared to even touch the thing.... I don't get it. He is putting his in a very safe place so no one else is tempted to open it. Some crazy stories here on VJ sometimes!

BTW: When the airport asks if you packed all of the contents yourself, should you say to them all but this: and show them the packet. I never thought about that. ????

  11. Hi Sabi, Neetz is in the hospital at the moment having a minor procedure. She asked me to let you know that we have not received our interview date yet. But expect to hear by Tuesday as Dublin seems to take about a week from pack 3 to pack 4.

    Cheers! Tommy

I hope you are well soon Neetz! Let us know when you get that interview! Very excited for you guys. So glad things move fast in Ireland!

  12. Mel, call NVC in about a week to see if they have your file and case number. If they don't, just keep calling until they have it. After that, they will send the file to the embassy and you will probably get a letter in the mail staring the same thing. After that, it's up the embassy how they do things so someone else from Ireland can answer that part. The next steps are fast!

Thank you so much! I know that Ireland will send Ray a packet 3 after they get the file. I just wasn't sure if NVC would notify us when that is sent, or when they are done procressing it. Thanks again!

  13. This is likely a stupid question ,but what do we do now?

We have all of the next paperwork done, I filled it out in Ireland when I was there in July and Ray has it all. We have his medical and police certs done....

Do we get notice from NVC when they get our file? Do they notify us when it goes to Dublin? Or do we have to call to get that info?

I was so obsessed with the NOA2.... I am unclear about the NVC stage. :help:
