  1. My wife's case was received on March 2, and was in "acceptance" stage until April 9 when it changed to "Testing and interview". On April 9th, they sent us the interview notice. I think it is normal to take that long.

In this case, I would check the times for the local office.

Hi there! Thanks for your reply! When did you guys receive your letter for biometrics appointment though? I'm a little worried that I have not received anything else after the NOAs. :(

  2. Hi everyone, so I mailed & filed my concurrent application for I-485, I-130, I-765 and I-131 exactly a month ago and have since received my NOAs for all forms about a week after filing.

I just checked my Case Status now though and saw that my I-130, I-1765 and I-131 are all at Initial Review. My 1-485 Case Status though still shows Acceptance. :s

Is this normal? I had thought I'd be getting my letter for biometrics appointment by now but have not gotten anything after the NOAs. Am I panicking for no reason?

  3. Would really appreciate if you guys can check my cover letter below and let me know if there's anything I missed or got wrong. Thanks so much in advance!!!

  4. Hi everyone, almost done with all our requirements and need to work on our cover letter now. So a quick background, I am filing for an Adjustment of Status from my Visitor B1/B2 status thru my USC husband. I am filing I-485, I-130, I-131 and I-765 altogether.

I'm a little confused when it comes to putting together the cover letter as everyone seems to have different ideas. Hope you guys could help me out:

    - What exactly do I put in as address for the cover letter -- just USCIS, Department of Homeland Security, etc? I'm seeing different answers on the forums for this one. :s

    - What exactly should I put for Nature of Submission? Original Submission of I-485 with concurrent filing of I-130, I-131 and I-765 -- is this right?

    - When making the cover letter, do I make 1 for the entire packet listing the forms, then cover letters for each form, too, listing the requirements falling under each?

And lastly, I saw instructions on the VJ Assembly Guide to mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the nature of submission and the form. Where exactly on the envelope do I put this detail?

  5. Filing for AOS from my B1/B2 visa (husband and both sons are US citizens) and trying to assemble our applictaion packet now. I apologize in advance if some of these questions seem silly. I just need to make sure I get everything right!

    - Is there a particular kind of envelope we need to use for submitting this?

    - I noticed that several forms ask for passport-style photos (I-485, I-130, I-131, I-765). So I'm assuming I'm sending several photos then -- 1 or 2 for each of the forms (whichever's required)? How exactly do I attach the photos to the form?

    - I have been trying to fill out and print Form I-765 from the USCIS website but it says that I cannot save anything onto this form. Is it just my computer or is anyone else having problems downloading a copy that can be filled out on the computer? Is there anywhere else I can get a copy of this form?

    - When asked for USCIS office where I'm filing the application, what should I put? Should I put whichever USCIS office is closest to where we live?

    - If I am a Visitor on a B1/B2 visa, do I have an Alien Registration Number? Is the number on my I-94 considered an A-number?

    - I just want to make sure I got this one right. For the Form G-1145, I only need one form for the whole packet, right? That'll cover I-485, I-130, I-864, I-131 and I-765?

Again, i'm so sorry if some of these questions seem dumb. I just want my application to be fool-proof and would really appreciate any help!!! Thanks in advance!

  6. Tax returns go by year, not by months, So he does not have a tax return for a couple of months. He is required to file taxes every year, as a USC, no matter where in the world he worked.

You mean he he has paystubs for a few months? Usually they go by current income, so he should be okay if his current income is enough. I might have a co-sponsor lined up just in case, but I would submit based on current job. Good luck.

Sorry about that! Not too familiar with how tax returns work. :s But ya, he's been working for the past 5 months now so he has paystubs for those and is working on his tax paperwork right now so I assumed that this would be the one we would be submitting for the current year?

  7. Hi everyone,

My husband and I just arrived here from the Philippines about half a year ago, not really intending to move, we were visiting his family but we've decided to stay so we are now filing for my AOS (my husband and both sons are US citizens). We're almost done with all the other forms but we're still not sure about how to finish filling out I-864 since he only started working here a few months back so he only has tax returns for the past 5 months. Will this be enough? Will this be a problem for our I-864?

  8. Hi everyone,

Hope you could help a frazzled mom of a newborn in need! Been meaning to submit my AOS application for months now but with the pregnancy and having just given birth, life has been crazy and we found it very difficult to find time to get to it. Now I have a little over 2 weeks before my I-94 expires so I'm panicking a little bit and trying to get everything done by tonight so we can send everything in by the end of the week. I have most of the requirements already and only need to finish filling out all my forms (I-130, I-485, I-864, I-765, I-131 -- have I missed anything?).

I thought it'd be easy but there're a few things on the forms that I'm not too sure about and would really appreciate all the help I can get since I want to make sure I fill out all the forms correctly.

    1. I-485 asks for my current USCIS status -- do I put in Visitor if I am on tourist B1/B2 visa?

    2. Where exactly can I find my I-94 number? I am assuming it is the 11-digit Admission Number on my Departure Card -- is this correct?

    3. Where can I find my Nonimmigrant Visa Number? Is that the Control Number on my US visa?

    4. For the I-485, in the Application Type, should I check the first option ("An immigrant petition giving me an immediately available...") even if I am filing my I-130 concurrently?

I would really appreciate any help on this. Or if you guys know of a number I can call for questions on filling out the forms, please do let me know. I just really want to make sure I don't make any mistakes.

Thank you so much in advance!

  9. Hi everyone,

I am new here and so relieved to have found a forum for help on this whole application process. The Internet could be so overwhelming sometimes!!

So, anyway, here is my case:

I have been married to a US citizen for the past 6 years now. We have a 5-year-old son and another baby due in February. We have been based in the Philippines since we got married but we came here to visit family for Thanksgiving but soon after arriving, my husband was offered a job and so now, we have decided to stay and try living here in America.

I have had my tourist VISA (B-2) for almost 10 years now, way before my husband and I met, so I entered here with that VISA. I was given until April 2012 for this stay. We are planning to start the application process for the AOS soon, but with the baby on the way, we're having a few problems with the medical exam requirements so we are thinking of waiting until the baby arrives. Is this possible? Or is this a bad idea?

When I file for the I-485 (together with the I-130), does that automatically extend my allowed stay here until I get the results for my application? What happens when April comes (and my I-94 expires) and my application for AOS hasn't been approved yet? Do I get sent home for that?

Really hoping you guys can help me and shed a light on our concerns. Thank you so much in advance for all the help! :)
