  2. Hi:

I've recently created two versions of my resume :

1.MS Word/PDF version  that would look good If I'm sending it via e-mail

2.Text format version(scannable resume) that  Application Tracking system would like it.

When I apply for jobs and fill out all that mandatory questions and attach my resume, how would I know that it would go tru ATS OR to  HR person's e-mail address?

Not all companies have ATS in place, right. ?Scannable version looks ugly, can't use any bullets, underlining, bolding, centered text, etc.but this is what ATS like .I wouldn't want this to end up HR's or hiring manager 's email adress.

.doc/pdf files look good BUT ATS doesnt understand..

    Any ideas?

    Thnx

  3. It looks pretty solid to me as I like this clean overall layout. I'm going to pick at a few things I feel you can improve on.

    1) Summary of Qualifications section seems a bit redundant to the education field. No needs to list Certs twice in resume. Leaving it in education should suffice.

    2) Instead of Summary of Qualifications, maybe change to General Skillsets (however you want to word it) and include key general skills from a combination of all your previous job experiences.

    3) Objective should be more general. Instead of saying Windows System Administrator, maybe you can change it to something like "Information Technology Specialist." That term makes it seem more general and applicable to different job roles.

Other than those general items on top. It looks solid and I would consider it. Resume is the first hurdle, hopefully those tips can help a bit.

    thnx, appreciate it!

  4. Sure. Go ahead and send it to me and I'll take a quick look. I believe you can use the attach files on here. If not, just cut and paste into the body. of this message.

    I'll attach the file.Once u download it,I'll delete it.

    Thnx!

<Mod edit: Attached file removed at the request of OP>

  5. I'm in the IT field as well and have recently applied to numerous companies. I'm currently working in a position where I'm in charge of hiring contract workers so I've gone through countless resumes. Listed below are some general opinions.

    - Don't complicate the resume with odd formatting. Most websites have you upload resume and register through their ATS (Application Tracking Systems). During that process, the spacing, and formatting may get all out of whack anyways.

    - PDF or word does not really matter. However, if you create a Word Doc, save it as .doc (legacy format) and not .docx (current format). Some companies have outdated Office Applications so it's better to save in a format that has been used for ages.

    - When I go through resumes, it only takes me about 10 seconds to immediately tell if the candidate meets our business needs. Main thing I look for are skill sets that are relevant to the position.

    - Don't waste time listing your knowledge of all versions of windows, programs, etc.. Only used the most recent programs you are familiar with. No one cares that you are familiar with Windows 98 for example.

    - It's against the law in the US to discriminate against age but it occurs pretty often. So when doing resume, only flesh out the info from your most recent jobs and mention the years of experience at that company. Don't show irrelevant jobs or entry level jobs from more than 10 years ago.

Hope this little bit of info helps.

Thank you so much for your reply. Its always good to hear from a hiring manager who is in my field.

Would it be OK If I send you my resume and you could tell me your honest opinion in regards to what I'm doing wrong/good?

    Thnx.

  6. Hi:

I'm seriously thinking of using one of the Online Resume writing Services.Has anyone used them?Which one is the best? Pls share your experience.

I'm in IT field.I also want to find the one who understands and familiar with my field.

Also,I've been sending my resumes in PDF format and I'm wondering if If should switch to MS Word format only.

I've been doing lots of reading to find the best one of course. But I just need to hear real stories from real people.

    Thnx

  7. The equivalent would be an associates degree. If you're going for a position in that field and are asked about your degree tell them that.

I was thinking about the same thing, but I'm still not sure IF it's considered AA OR community college here in USA..I'm going to apply for my Bachelor of Science degree and find out I guess....

If u have any experience about this pls let me know:AA OR community college ?

    Thnx for the reply..

  8. No, after my interview I received a conditional offer of employment- pending security clearance and medical clearances. Once that was done I was offered a slot in the upcoming intake classes and started 3 months later.

Yes, I have gone back for visits to my home country - I average about once a year for a week or two. Never been an issue. It's just a matter of keeping track when I traveled, with whom, place I stayed at and who I interacted with - this is for periodic security clearance update.

When you start paperwork for your clearance you'll have to list all your friends, relatives, neighbors, landlords, coworkers and supervisors. This includes overseas ones and they'll then go talk to all these people. That's why it takes a while.

    thnx so much!

  9. hI:

I've studied two years at Seneca College in Toronto (http://www.senecacollege.ca/fulltime/CTY.html) and got a computer systems technology diploma many years ago. When u finish the school,u get Ontario College Diploma.

I'd like to get equivalent of this diploma here in US ,but it looks like WES does not recognize the school and its program.

Has anyone tried to get equivalent of Ontario college diploma(it's usually 2 or 3 year program) in US.

Should I just forget about it?

    Thnx

  10. I have the higher one but not from DOD. Got it a year after naturalization. Also have another country citizenship and it was not a problem (never renewed my birth country passport after it expired).

I don't know what it's like now in the post-Snowden and others times. I know it's taking a lot longer these days but folks are still getting them. Mine took around 4 months total at that time.

Thnx for the reply. So did u actually got hired for the job, worked there while waiting for the security clearance results? Is it how it works?

Also, can u go to your home country once you obtain these type of clearance?

Since u have relatives, family and ties to another country, did they ask any question about these?

    Thnx again.

  11. You need to return the interview letter along with an explanation of why you can't attend. Make sure you list the earliest date you'll be available for an interview. Lots of people do this; and many have their interviews rescheduled within 1 to 3 months, but others end up with complications including:

    The interview not being rescheduled

The interview being reschedule for before they return from their trip

The rescheduling request resulting in a delay of many months.

There's nothing wrong with rescheduling, USCIS allows it, but you should be aware that sometimes the request can backfire. Speaking for myself, I wouldnonly reschedule in an emergency, but if it'll cost too much to change your travel dates, you can reschedule and hopefully you won't have to wait long. As I said many people end up with an interview date just a couple of months later or even sooner.

    sure will do.

    Thnx

  12. The actual process takes at most 15 minutes.

The wait depends on your service center. Some people wait 5 minutes, but others wait 2 hours to be called.

They will verify your identity, ask you to wait to be called, show you your information on a screen for you to verify that it was entered correctly, take your fingerprints (all of them) optically, take a photo. Note that in most cases the photo they take during this appointment with be the one they use on your naturalization certificate so make sure you wear something you like. :-)

    thank you so much

  13. Go through the monthly threads on this forum and look at the timeline tables. Find someone who lives in the same city and check how long it took him/her.

For example look at August 2014 Filers or September 2014 Filers.

That's the best indication of how long it might take because it differs greatly from office to office.

Generally, you can expect biometrics about a month after you get notice that your application was received. As a rough estimate, the interview is usually scheduled for 4-7 months from the date of the application, but some offices are faster and some are slower.

    thank you
