  1. Puru/Chubbs/Hamida,

What did you guys put as a current occupation and what you would do in USA?person I was helping is Pharmacist, so we put Pharmacist as current occupation and medical/health as occupation after coming to USA. However other person who now we have to submit IV application online is not very skilked and not working currently. What should we write as a future occupation in USA?

Does three NA on summary page means case is complete? We haven't received any email about case completion from NVC just yet but see 3 NA on summary page online.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Sap,

It is better to answer the questions as honestly as possible, coz thy generally have every details about what the sponsor/ petitioner does in the US. As far as the unemployed person goes, put that in as well and whatever he has done so far. I doubt they would deny the visa just because he is unskilled or unemployed. The sponsor should be able to support him while he is here and thats what matters.

They say that 3 NAs means case complete, but I would wait to see the letter. Coz in my son's case nothing changed but I did receive the letter saying that the case was complete and they were forwarding it to the consulate.

  2. All,

By grace of god my daughter made safely to Dallas yesterday night. As she came by Qatar airways her immigration was at Dallas. They did not ask her single question but told her that that social security card and green card will be sent to my address.

    Hi Hamida,

Had been thinking of you on Saturday, knowing that you would be one happy mom with your daughter besides you. Yes even my son was not asked anything and it was over so quickly at AbuDhabi. Once again congrats!

  3. Thanks Puru for your quick response. After the panic I did some research and found the same thing.

God bless all of you. Finally she will be here on Friday October 16, 2015.

I mean and hope you will get interview letter by end of this month or early next month but interview date will be in December 2015. This is based on all the cases I have watching.

Hamida, so happy for you! Finally you will meet ur dear daughter after a long separation. God Bless you both!

  4. Hey Chubbs!!

Yesterday I went to SSA office in Mountain View and filled up the form to apply for SSN as they told me to do so. I carried my passport and the lady told me to fill the form and submit it. She gave me back the receipt and told me that I will receive my SSN card in next 2 weeks. Whereas, there's no update about the greencard so far, though I have read many posts on internet and the USCIS website itself suggests to call National Customer number if the greencard and the welcome letter doesnt delivered within a month. I will wait till 07th October and will call this number to remind them to work on it if I wont receive it within the stipulated time frame.

By the way, its raining from last 2 days and quite chilly weather out here whereas it was very hot a few days back. I never experienced this kinda strange situation before, how the weather in valley so far?? I heard that its quite warm from Stockton to Fresno to Bakersfield, is it??

    Hi Puru,

Im sure you will receive your GC in the next couple of days!! yeah Bay Area has fantastic weather, Fresno is hot and somedays are cloudy with hardly any rain our side. :( mornings & nights are pleasant now. I am leaving for India on 22 Oct for 4 months. Hope you will be settled soon and what about jobs? are you planning to study further or just look for a job? All the very best Puru! God bless!

  5. Thats a great news!!

Congratulations!! AP is normal processing, soon it will gt changed to Issued and ur daughter will receive Text message and e-mail that her passport is ready for pickup.:thumbs:

Congratulations Hamida!!!!! Your wait is definitely over and your daughter will be with you soon. She can travel as soon as she gets her passport, which should be in a day or two.... once again Mubarak ho!

  6. Thanks Chubbs!!

Usually people receive their SSN within 2 weeks time here but there are some exceptional cases as well like your son who had applied for it personally. Now, its been 3 weeks for me in US and I havnt receive anything yet, in fact that CBP officer clearly instructed me that I will receive my greencard after 3 months which was a shock for me but I ignored him and moved outta the airport. Anyways, I am going to SS Office on Monday and I will show my Visa which is the temporary I-551 (greencard) and will apply for the SSN then and there. I cant sit and wait anymore, I mean I am unable to do anything by my own and becomes totally dependent on my family members, those DMV officials refused to grant me the State ID and Driving License without this SSN, its quite frustrating to wait and becomes dependent and helpless.

By the way, does your son get the Driving License yet?? I have found the traffic rules are pain here in america as compared to India, Meanwhile, I am following some online stuff to read and learn more about DMV and every time I use my common sense, I got failed in that particular question. :P lolzz

No Puru, all that has changed, coz I remember we received both GC n SSN in less than a month. SSN officials do not entertain you unless you have your GC. They will just check the system and let you know if there is any update, thats it. They are very curt.

Take your written test and drive test, but they will give you permanent license card only after they see your SSN. Till then you will be given temporary paper license, for up to 3 months.

My son passed his driving test in about two weeks, as he went round with his dad and brother as soon as he was here. So test for temporary license in the first week and the following week he got his license. Do those DMV quizzes online it helps a lot. All the best Kiddo!

And take it easy, enjoy with your family, yeah I know here people are so busy, no time for anyone, :)

  7. Hi all,

Please can anybody help me out with this SSN thing?? Its been 2 weeks since I have arrived here and I haven't received my SSN yet. How long it takes generally? I remember that I have chosen the option of SSN issuance while filling out the DS-260 form, do I need to contact SS office in this regard?? Am I missing something, I mean does an applicant need to do any formalities or paperwork after arrived here to get the SSN?

    @Chubbs,

How long it took for your son's SSN?? Please share your views.

    Hi Puru,

SSN is a long wait. First my son received his GC after about a month. You have to show the GC at the SSN office, and apply for SSN, using your passport n GC. He received SSN in the mail after 6 days.

Congrats Hamida. :) Its going to be happy family reunion soon... Enjoy and God Bless!

  8. I have landed today, CBP officers took very long time at SFO. I was being told to be seated and wait for my turn, and then it was all done after 2 hours wait.

Hey Welcome Puru! Loads of luck for the new journey of your life. Relax & enjoy!

Purru got his interview call on July 31, 2015 for interview date of September 01, 2015. His date became current in September bulletin which was released in august 2015

Hamida maybe tomorrow is your big day... the VB may be out and it will bring you good news!

  9. My Interview was scheduled for 9 AM.

I reached there at 8 and was sitting inside the chamber by 8.15 and waiting for my turn patiently. There was a huge crowd waiting already inside the Immigrant section and the staff was serving the people on first come first serve basis.

At 9.30 AM, I was called on the window for fingerprints verification, and they issued me a token no. to wait for my turn for further processes.

At 10.00 AM, my token no. was displayed on the screen and there was an Indian Lady behind the window and she asked me following questions:

    1. Who calls me?

    2. What he does?

    3. Is he the citizen now? If yes, then please provide me the photocopy of his naturalization certificate.

I did follow everything whatever she said and then she took my passport and told me to wait for next call and consular officer will take the final round of interview with me.

At 11.15 AM, I was called by an American Consular Officer. She asked me to raise my hand and take an oath and then she asked me the following questions:

    1. Who calls you?

    2. Where does he live?

    3. What does he do for living?

    4. When did he go to US?

    5. How did he go to US?

    6. Where does he work?

    7. Are your parents still married? Are they living together?

    8. How old are you now? Are you married?

    9. What will you do when you go there?

    10. What do you do now?

    11. Where is your mother right now?

    12. Is your father a US citizen now?

Then, she examines every document carefully and told me to have a seat, I will call you shortly. This time I was surprised because I was the only one who was asked to sit and wait during the final round, otherwise everyone was through during the last stage.

Anyway, I was waiting for my turn yet again. I could see her discussing my case with her fellow colleague and their reactions were negative. She was not at all convinced with some point and I couldnt heard her from 20 feet away but her facial reactions were not good. I was tensed and confused all this time and I had no idea what is wrong with my case. Meanwhile, I was scanning every single document carefully and try to figure it out what's stopping them to issue me a visa.

At 1.00 PM, an Indian Lady calls my name from different window. She was holding my passport and I was scared to hell when I saw my passport in her hands. She called me up and said: Sorry sir we cant grant you the visa this time, since your father is Citizen now, hence your case has been treated as an F1 it is not at all classified under F2B. Sir, here's your passport, sorry we cant help you with this case any more and you will be notified soon by us for next steps.

That was a moment, when I laughed in my mind and relieved a bit. Then, I told her everything about this CSPA Section-6 and told her my story that how did I gained this Opt-out approval notice from DHS last month from USCIS Field Office Delhi Embassy itself. She asked me to show her the original copy, I gave her that piece of gold immediately. She did read the whole stuff thoroughly and nod her head and told me to wait while she goes to discuss this matter with that american consular officer.

At 1.30 PM, I was called on the same window and that american lady said this one and last sentence to me:

Congratulations Sir, you visa has been approved!!

And then finally after so many hours of intense drama and panic situation. I came out laughing out loud and hugged my mom and celebrate the moment.

I checked my status on ceac.state, and it shows "Issued". I just hope that I will receive my passport before saturday so that I could go with my mom on 6th late night.

In short, my case wasn't at all a piece of cake like others. In fact, it was a roller coaster ride for more than 5 longest hours of my life with full of tension and stress. But, in the end it all went well. Thank you all for your support and wishes, I am really thankful to my god today. He saved me today seriously. :)

Oh wow!! This was indeed a very serious interview. But now its all over and there's only celebration for you Puru!!! Welcome to the USA!!! Happy that you will be with your loved ones soon.. Do let me know, Im at California, would love to meet you & ur family.

  10. Thank you chubbs for ur wishes!!

Its really great to know that ur son has settled well there. :)

No, I havnt booked the tickets yet bcoz Im not sure whether I will receive a passport by 4th Sept. Actually, my mother is here with me and she has a return on 6th late night and she wants me to join her this time and this will be very disheartening for her to go alone this time when she came here totally prepared to bring me back with her. :(

I called the airlines & they will charge $500 for postponing the flight, that makes around 32,000 bucks here. I have read some posts online that usually the passport is available for pick up within 2 days after the interview but still there is no guarantee on that. So, I will wait till 4th sept and hope to get it by then for her sake.

Anyways, the situation is little bit tensed these days. Finally THAT day has arrived and I am biting the nails and cant sleep properly. All this questions and preparations and worries goes through my mind .... lolzzz

Though, I always thought and believed that I am totally prepared and confident about all this process but right now, every moment and this countdown makes me little nervous. No matter how hard you prepared but one has to be afraid of it for this last stage where it all ends up after years of waiting time. Isnt it??

Its totally on my nerves and makes me anxious, praying the god wasnt so desperate & begging before .... lolzzz

Congrats once again and my best wishes for ur family. Now, the time has come to start ur second petition soon under F2A, Best of Luck!! :joy::joy:

Hey you will do fine and btw they don't ask too many questions. Especially since your parents have made sincere attempts to settle here. They have every record with them. And Im sure you will receive your PP in 2 days, Delhi has far less candidates for interview than Mumbai. so it should not be difficult. Best of Luck, and I pray that you get to travel with your mom.

  11. I am too searching for this question.

    here's the link:

    http://www.visajourney.com/search/?cx=partner-pub-3407508467788263%3A9725800110&cof=FORID%3A10&ie=UTF-8&q=after+the+interview+how+long+for+passport+to+pick&sa=Search&siteurl=www.visajourney.com%2F&ref=www.visajourney.com%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F561177-f2b-interview-case-denied%2F&ss=12685j12501635j49

My mother's flight is booked on 07th September and my interview is on 01 Sept. I have read some reviews and there are some cases where people received their passports within 2 business days. But, its a total gamble and this timing varies case to case.

Anyways, Best of Luck for him!! Do share his experience with us tomorrow.

Puru Im sure you will get your visa stamped on your PP within 4/5 days from interview date. Once the PP is handed over to the courier, they post the status online and you can just walk in immediately and collect it. You can track your PP here:

    http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-loc-passportcollection.asp#trackpassport

I did that and as soon as the status changed, I called my son who had been waiting outside the building. And he collected the PP.

  12. Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to share some good news ! Finally we got the visa !! It was a painful journey especially the last 10 days.. but we pulled it through ! Thanks to everyone on this forum for posting and sharing your experiences ! Its an amazing platform and very helpful as all of you guys know!

    Here is ours:

    - My son's appointment was scheduled at 7:30 at the Mumbai Consulate. It was the only option as we booked the appt online through Category 2 as he already had a prior interview where his visa was on hold as we were not able to produce the opt-out letter.

    - He got in at 7:00

    - There were already many folks ahead of him and had to wait for almost 1.5 hours to get to talk to the local officer who verified all his documents. They had already taken everything at the last interview so he was not asked for anything else. They had taken the medical reports, PCC (original), verification of Birth Certificate was done, 2014 Tax returns (as we did not submit those to NVC). AOS was not asked as we had submitted the originals to NVC, VAC Appt Confirmation and Photos.

    - He offered the F2B opt-out letter to the officer but they said they already got the email from USCIS and did not require it.

    - Then it was another 1.5 hours of waiting after which he was called for the interview with the immigration officer who was american.

    - He was very cordial and friendly. He asked basic questions like - why was he not married yet, what kind of girl he plans to get married to (indian or american), how does he manage living alone, whether his parents had visited him or not, what does he plan on doing abroad. All of this was not quite an interview but a friendly discussion

    - He came out after that and we all were so relieved !

The status on CEAC website changed to Administrative Processing within 15 minutes and within an hour it was "Issued"

We are now waiting for the passport to be issued!

Good luck to everyone and thanks! This most definitely was the best day of our lives..!! Will never forget the relief we all experienced. !

Best wishes to all.. Now time to book tickets :-))

Congrats Liberal!! im glad ur troubles are over.... Have quality family time once your son gets here!!

  13. Congrats chubbs...Can you elaborate more on immigration formalities at Abu Dhabi? Did they collect brown sealed envelope? I would think at SFO, they collected bio-metrics.

    Hi puru,

Does NVC sends any confirmation email after they receive the financial documents and AOS?

    TIA!

They collected the sealed envelope at Abu Dhabi, took his fingerprints and that was it, all over in less than 10 mins, he says. No queries or questions but they verified the documents from the envelope. At SFO, he just walked out of airport, no need even to show his passport.

  14. Hey friends!

My son landed at SFO 7.26 am and surprise! surprise! There was absolutely nothing he had to do, but just walk out of the airport towards 'Baggage Claim". The immigration formalities were over at AbuDhabi ( he took an Etihad flight via Abu Dhabi) and there too it was a breeze.... they did not ask him any questions except the routine stuff.

As for the $165 fees for Green card, you will only get the A-number and the DOS number on your stamped passport. Also they issue a letter stating how you have to pay the fee before flying out to the US. Paying the fees at USCIS ELIS is a simple process and once that is done you receive an email. Thats it!

  15. Thank you Chubbs :)

I am eagerly waiting to hear from you when ur son arrives. Please do share with us his POE experience as well like you always did perfectly in previous events :)

By the way, this POE reminds me about one question which comes to my mind right now.

Have you guys paid the Greencard Fees $165 at USCIS Elis website (http://www.uscis.gov/online-filing)

If yes, then please tell me that have they mentioned these numbers on your son's visa:

    A-number & DOS number

These numbers are required to pay the fees. I have registered myself on their website but when I tried to proceed they have asked me to fill these two numbers.

  16. Thanks puru for detailed response. In what order it should be sent? The barcoded checklist NVC sent is kind of confusing.

On a side note - does USCIS approval notice(NOA2) ever needed?

Go by the checklist they provided you. And keep a couple of copies for yourself.

The main documents are what the NVC asks for. I dont think the NOA2 is important once you receive the case number and invoice ID.

  17. And I have told you that we both must be the first one in this world besides the filipinos who obtained this piece of document from DHS/USCIS.

I am happy that our efforts really worked out in no time, whereas we both were tensed and in panic about this notice a week ago when we both interact with each other on phone.

    Finally, back on track!!

    :D :D

I am just waiting for ur brother's interview call. I hope he will get the visa soon bro ;) Honestly, today was the best day of my life :D

Woohooo!!!! thats fantastic news Puru & Liberal! CONGRATS! GREAT JOB!

I am going to SFO early morning tomorrow to receive my son. :joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::joy::goofy::goofy::goofy::content::content::content::content: .

Loads of luck to all those who are in queue..God Bless
