  1. Hi all! This thread is so dead. LOL Well my post will bump it up. Just wanted to come back and note Henry received his 10 year green card.

    We were moved to CSC, so I think that sped it up quite a bit. He did not want to apply for US citizenship, but my dad and his sister had a long chat with him over

    sorrel and he decided to go for it and applied for citizenship last week. Yeah more paperwork! whohoo! :lol:

  2. I am very late - but willing to represent hubby's parish - St. Thomas.

    Here is a charity I was researching on my own and was planning to contact shortly. I am into the kids and Mustard Seed focuses on abandoned, abused and neglected children.

  3. Congrats Jonesie and Yaads(aka Yardiewife) and others who got their new greencards!

    We are still waiting. Henry's mom is in the hospital, but he is afraid to travel without the new greencard.

    I can't seem to convince him. Anywho, my good friend went to visit her and he called and gave us a good report (reports from family are "angsty"). He gave us a list of all that she said and did and my mom (a nurse) said those are all very good signs for recovery.

    Anyone in touch with Squitto, tell her I said hi and I miss her!

  4. Hi Jill!!!!!!

    (((((Jill))))) Yeah its been a while. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Belated condolences.

    But congrats to Lake. I remember how hard he worked on that GED. That talking thing ..... ah it is what it is.

    My grandpa used to defend himself by saying "speak when you are spoken to - answer when you are called." It's a phrase usually directed to children - as in be seen and not heard. LOL

    It's so good to hear from you and to know you are thriving!! I miss Iowa. Really.

  5. Hi all,

    Coral Cove is lovely. We almost had our wedding there, but the guests resident on the island felt it was too far from most of them. We married on North Coast instead.

    I can also vouch for Isabelle Stewart. I met with her and spent almost a whole day with her going over menus and all the different possibilities. She is cool. She is French but has lived in JA for many, many years married and had her kids there, etc.

  6. Hi all,

    In addition to the picture of Gwendolyn, Leroy included all the other pictures of the girls he had collected from his buddies.

    Yeah! I think it was that! Thanx. Got a recipe? :whistle:

    I think I know what you mean - each caribbean nation calls it something else.

    Guyana and Barbados: we call it conkie

    Virgin Islands: I think its called fungee

    Belize, etc: dunkanoo

    Jamaica: Blue Drawers (LOL Leave it to yardies!LOL)

    It varies what you make it with - sometimes cornmeal, fresh corn, ripe plantains, pumpkin etc.

    My favorite is by my aunt in London who uses cornmeal, coconut and pumpkin.

    Here is a bajan recipe complete with pictures.

    But look at Elizabeth! :thumbs: How yuh knoa suh much?

    Blue Drawers :rofl:

    Beware of the ital blue draws - no salt no sugar etc. It tastes very.....good for you. LOL

  8. Here is the recipe my auntie uses:

    Ingredients:

    * 3 cups grated coconut (1 large)

    * 2 cups fresh corn flour (ground cornmeal)

    * 4 oz raisins (optional)

    * 6 oz shortening

    * 1/2 cup flour

    * 3/4 lb brown sugar

    * 3/4 lb pumpkin

    * 1/2 lb sweet potato

    * 1 cup milk

    * 1 tsp powdered cinnamon

    * 1 tsp grated nutmeg

    * 1 tsp almond essence

    * 1 tsp salt

    Procedure:

    1. Grate coconut, pumpkin and sweet potato.

    2. Mix in sugar, liquids and spices.

    3. Add raisins and flour last and combine well.

    4. Melt shortening before adding with milk, etc.

    5. Fold a few tablespoons of the mixture in steamed plantain leaves.

    6. Cut in squares about 8 inches wide.

    7. Steam conkies on a rack over boiling water in a large pot or in a steamer until they are firm and cooked.

    Note:

    Wax paper will work instead of banana or plantain leaves

    Feels good to be back around. I missed everyone and the yardie connection but I am glad I took a bit of a break to clear up stuff. I hope to stick around :D

    things are either blasted or blessed pronounced BLES - ED.

  11. Mrs.Rowe and Lisa,

    Welcome to Visajourney. I do not know any Guyanese on this board, but that is not to say they do not exist. I have befriended and been befriended by many, many nationalities, but none of my own. So I latched on to the Yardie Addams family ( :lol: ) as my hubby is from Jamaica and the Yardie family has been really supportive since 2005.

    I wish you two ladies speedy processes and quick reunions with your husbands.

    Yes, thndancer is a wonderful Iowa gal, who is married to a Guyanese man and was really sweet to me when we joined visajourney. She may be very helpful as she knows the GT process first hand.

    If you have any questions that I might help with, please feel free to PM me or email me.

    All the best,

    E

  12. Hey Jonesie and Mindy!!!

    I expect to be in Treasure Beach from July 31 to August 10 or August 3 to August 10!!!

    My departure date is iffy due to work. But Henry will be in that parish of his from July 25 looking after some interests that he have there now....I can't make lengthy stays in that parish anymore, with so much JA to explore. So I will spend 1 day with maw and paw and then Henry and I will down to TB together.

    I would love love love to meet up with you guys if possible (doing the happy dance)!! Jonesie, don't feel a way, but will Gavin be there???? :luv: Not that I would not meet up with you without baby Gavin in the equation! :lol::P

    PS Anyone in touch with Ms. Squitto? I really miss her.

  13. I know that the last time I was on that divorce was in the cards. We went pretty far with the divorce procedings but in the end things turned around and they have been getting better everyday. I am not going to go into all the details but I will say that miracles do happen and things can change in the blink of an eye. Never in a millions years did I think this is where I would be but here I am. I was all prepared to be a divorced woman papers were drawn up and everything but then God got ahold of me, of us and our marriage and made it very clear that another plan was going to be put in place. His plan. I feel like a different person...DH is like someone I never knew before. It is amazing the power God has. Transformation has truly taken place and the prayers I prayed and others prayed for many years were answered...patience truly is the key :luv: I took a much needed break from the board and focused on some other more important things. I missed you all but I am glad to be back :D

    :dance::dance::crying::dance::crying::dance:

    I feel like I won the lottery!!! Been thinking of you a lot!! BIG HUGS! BIGGER KISSES!!!!
