  1. Well I went to the post office today, and voila..... they can't find the letter. They were also surprised to see it says 'notice left' since the package did not require signature (they checked)

I'm looking at the tracking now and it didn't change... so today it doesn't say 'out for delivery' or anything. The mail will come in about an hour, I'll go down and talk to the mailman.

Something tells me - as I was fearing all along that they would, even before it was sent - that USPS has lost my green card in the mail. This is truly unbelievable. They have first lost my EAD and because of that I still can't work (was supposed to come at the beginning of August) and now they have lost my green card. Unbelievable.

  2. why are worrying about that? if that´s how it is then just call USPS and ask for the local office to hold it and you can go and pick it up in person and that´s it... problem solved... if you do not do that, then it will be mailed back to USCIS.... you decide ....

I am worrying about everything because my EAD was lost in the mail (even though it said 'delivered' I never got it). After everything I've been through I feel as if there's a huge chance that this is also going to get lost in the mail.

  3. Excuse me - the whole visa process took an enormously long amount of time, was fraught with problems at every turn (none originating from us), and I'm repeating - my EAD was lost in the mail (said it was delivered - it was never delivered) and I can't work because of that (that was no 'simple fix', we did everything we possibly could), and today my green card (which I don't believe requires a signature) was not delivered to me, who was in the house all day, and so they had to leave a notice, which I never got.

So I believe I do have a right to be frustrated with this whole thing, do I not?

  4. I know tracking is new but I've never heard of GCs requiring signatures. Might be the case, though, maybe they finally listened to some complaints.

Funny that USPS messed up AGAIN. Couple of months ago my EAD was mailed to me. It never arrived, never showed up anywhere, I still can't work because of this and we are under great financial strain. Just because USPS screwed up and my EAD was lost in the mail. True story.

Now if they lose my green card too I have to pay $400 and wait god knows how long for them to send me another one. Truly the greatest country in the world.

  5. Hi,

My green card was sent to me on December 5th. I called and got the tracking number for it.

On the USPS site today was the estimated delivery day (was sent with 2-day mail) and it said it was 'Out for Delivery' since 10.00 AM today. Well it wasn't with the mail that was delivered today.

Just now the tracking has been updated with 'Notice Left', saying

"We attempted to deliver your item at 5:05 pm on December 7, 2013 in FAIRFAX, VA 22030 and a notice was left."

Well first of all I don't think green cards are sent by 'certified' mail, or any other type of mail that requires authorization/signature. It just goes in the mail box, doesn't it?

Second, I was here all day. Nobody came to 'deliver' me anything.

Third, there is no notice left anywhere.

So what is this? I really can't understand how this could have happened. Anyone has any ideas?

  6. So apparently they mailed the welcome letter on Friday but I still haven't got it... And today I received a notice that they mailed my green card too.

The problem is: I moved around 3 months ago, changed my address on USCIS, and even got a confirmation letter from USCIS at my new house. However, when I got the interview waiver letter in October, it was mailed to my old address and got forwarded.

My question is: Is it possible that my welcome letter & green card could have been mailed to my old address? And what do I do if they have?

  7. Hi guys,

I've filed my I485 and it was received by USCIS on April 17, 2013.

On October 20 I received a 'Potential Interview Waiver Case' letter that stated that my case could be delayed a further 6 months.

After that I contacted my senator who filed a congressional inquiry on my behalf.

This Monday (Nov 25) the senator's office contacted me, saying USCIS said that my case had been re-routed to my local office.

Today (Nov 29) I received this email from USCIS:

"Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production
On November 29, 2013, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283."

So... I received no 'you have been approved' mail, and the case went directly from 'Initial Review' to 'Card/Document Production'... is there something strange about this or is it normal? Does this mean I've been approved and should be receiving my GC soon?

Also will there be nothing on my passport related to a green card?

    Thanks for all the help!

  8. Hi guys,

I've filed for AoS on April 15th, 2013 (that's when it was received by USCIS)

There hasn't been any movement on my case until around a month ago when I received the Potential Interview Waiver Case letter, stating it could be a further 6 months before I receive my card.

I've contacted my senator and had a congressional inquiry put on my case. Today, the senator's office called me to say that USCIS told them my case was re-routed to Washington, DC field office.

When I look at DC's processing times, it says that as of September 30, the last case they processed was from April 17, 2013. Which is after my case date.

So does this mean that when they re-routed my case to DC field office, it went to the bottom of the pile? Because if it hadn't (and if it was placed in the pile according to its date) it would have already been processed since they processed a case that's dated after mine like 2 months ago?

  9. hey guys.. just received the potential waiver letter today. Filed in April and USCIS received it in April 15th.

I don't know which is my local office.. I mean I'm sure it's still in National Benefits Center, but if it was to be processed in a local office, how would I know where that would be? I'm in Northern VA.

Honestly this whole process has been horrible for me... I applied for the K-1 visa at the end of 2011 (yes, 2011) and the visa that was supposed to be issued in 6-7 months took a YEAR... and after I received it & entered US & got married & filed for AOS in April now it looks like I'll be getting the GC in April 2014.

From the end of 2011 to April 2014!!

You know what the worst part is??? My EAD got lost in the mail and I never received it. At that time I didn't re-apply for the EAD since that'd take $400 and 3 further months, during which I figured my GC would be here anyway.

So I haven't been able to work since the end of last year and it looks like I won't be able to work until APril 2014. Good job, USCIS. This process is going to cost me my soul.

  10. I contacted USCIS but the representative said they had no way of accessing my personal information so I couldn't confirm the address. I didn't get any NOA in any format, including physical mail, email, text etc. There had been no movement on the whole thing for two months, and then the status updated very quickly over the course of a couple of days from Initial Review to document sent.

  11. Hi,

I am extremely frustrated right now at USPS and USCIS both... don't know what to do...

I came here on a fiance visa, applied for my green card, plus EAD and AP on April... On April 15 I got the receipt notice both by email and text. Last week on the USCIS website my EAD seemed to be approved + sent for production. I never got an email or text regarding this.

A couple of days later the website updated to 'we sent the document to your address'. I never got an email or text regarding this either.

Yesterday the website updated to 'USPS reported your card was delivered on June 20' and it had a tracking number. (No email or text regarding this either) But it's June 21 now and I never received it. When I run the tracking number on USPS it says 'we delivered it yesterday 1.45PM'. Doesn't say a full address, but the zipcode checks out.

I live in a high rise apartment building. We checked all the records of arriving packages (thinking maybe there was a mistake in apartment number or such) but no sign of a package with that tracking number.

So what do I do now... I'm going to contact the post office tomorrow but I'm not setting my hopes high. And I think USCIS requires you to wait some time before you can apply for a replacement card? Or do I have to re-apply?

Is it even worth it to re-apply? My green card should arrive in a couple of months anyway...

    Thanks for any help.

  12. Hi VJ,

I'm the intending immigrant (here on a K1, married) and my wife doesn't have enough income to sponsor me, so my mother in law is co-sponsoring me. But my wife has to fill out the I-864 regardless.

It says that you should fill in the 'assets' section only if you don't meet the income requirements. She doesn't, but then she doesn't need to (since her mom is sponsoring me). Does she need to fill out the assets section or not?

Thanks a lot for the help in advance.

  13. You change your address by going to the USCIS website, the immigrant and the US citizen up date their address and then you phone USCIS and inform them of the address change as well.

Hmm. Thanks for the info. But do you think that process would go smoothly? I mean, would I really be instantly updated on USCIS so that they'd never send a document to the wrong address?

You can do either. You can file the AOS package with the current address and then file the AR-11 on-line and since you have a pending case file it as instructed for a pending case. Also, you wife will need to file the I-865 to change her address. Make certain you sign up for electronic notifications and go to the UPSP to have your address changed. The notices will not be forwarded, but you will receive an e-amil that it was returned and you can call them to have it sent to the new address. Or you can use your MIL's address. Just remember when you put down your residences for ROC and naturalization you will have an address that the USCIS does not have for you. If that worries you than use where you actually live. If it does not bother you, than use your MIL's address.

Just so you know the USCIS cannot even get the address of their application support centers (ASC) correct. We received our biometrics appointment letter and the address was 15037 suite E which is a Smoker's Friendly store not the ASC. The ASC is in suite G. Now maybe they are trying to tell us something; like go in have a smoke or two because it is a very long wait  .

    Good luck,

    Dave

Dave&Roza, thanks for the reply. I'm more concerned with the fact that I don't actually live with my MIL, so if I say I do, that's just incorrect information. I feel like that might be a problem during the interview etc. We actually live in Northern Virginia, and my wife goes to school here, and my MIL lives in Southern Virginia.

  14. Hi VJ,

I entered the US with a K1 visa, married my fiancee, and now am about to submit the AoS package. Unfortunately my I-94 has expired so I hope that won't be a problem. I have other problems though.

I'll mail the package tomorrow (April 1st). The problem is, we will move out of this apartment in August. From what I've seen here I highly doubt that I'll have my green card by then.

On the forms, I put my address as the current apartment, but before the process is over I'll have to change it. So how hard & problematic would that be? I think something's gonna go wrong about that, such as some important thing being mailed to the old address, and me never getting it.

Would it make more sense for me to put in my mother-in-law's address instead? She's in the same state as us, only obviously we don't live there. So would that be wrong, or suspicious, to put in that address?

This also brings me to my second point. My wife's going to school so we can't meet the income requirements, so my mother-in-law is going to be the co-sponsor, and she's filled out the I-864. In this case, would my wife need to fill out the I-864 as well, or is my mother-in-law's I864 enough?

Thanks a lot for your attention!

    Summary:

Question 1: I'm filing for AoS but will move out of this apartment in 4-5 months. Can I put in my mother-in-law's address on the forms so there will be no address change and problems related to that?

Question 2: My mother-in-law is co-sponsoring me since my wife is a student. Does my wife need to fill out the I-864 form too?

  15. Hi Visajourney,

I entered the US with a K-1 and then got married. Now I'm filing for AoS, and I also want to include I131 and I765.

My question is - the supplemental documents required for I-131 (and I think I-765?) are all documents that I already need to include for the I 485, such as birth certificate, I94 form, photographs etc. Do I need to still send them, or will the ones I send for I485 be enough?

For example, if I485 required 2 photos, and the I131 also required 2 photos, do I need to send 2, or 4?

Sorry if I made this confusing.
