You are very welcome. Good luck!

Case by case. The manhattan office will give you an option after your interview approval whether 1) you'd wait for a few hours at the same spot to get the oath ceremony schedule letter, or 2) you prefer to go home and wait for the notification letter in your mailbox. If you choose to pickup the oath letter while you are there at same day where your interview was taken (* this process from interview to post decision might take any time between an hour upto six hours. ) If you don't mind kill a few hours sitting on a chair or go to cafeteria while your waiting. I highly recommend you to get it done at the same day since its not rare losing your oath letter sent by mail. Back to your original question, changing your name does not necessarily delay your process. Each case varies. Hope it helped.

congratulations, now you can get your us passport you can vote,go to the social security office to upgrade from permanent resident to now us citizenship, best of luck.
Thank you jkelly07! And thanks to the volunteers who work for the community for free, they gave away forms enables us apply for US passport and voters registration at the end of the oath ceremony that made your life so much easier. In regard to the SSN, I think you have to wait for couple more days or weeks until your naturalization status updated. I rushed to the social security office right after the oath ceremony was over but couldn't be done it.

Congratulations!!!!!!! Where in NY were you interviewed? And when did you file the N400? I am waiting to hear something from USCIS regarding my Interview as well. So far, nothing. Have been inline for an interview for almost for a month now. Since I am at queens, most probably will be scheduled at Long Island.
Thanks Pathan. To answer your questions, my interview was taken in manhattan. The process started early last april ever since I mailed them n-400, however, my interview and oath were taken in two different locations so you might also expect that happens. Best luck to you !!!

Hey guys, i just did the fingerprint today. So when i got there, they had me fill in a form which one section askes "country of citizenship." i put down china instead of macau. I realized i put down the wrong thing when i get home. What will happen? Should i do something? What can i do?
I would wait until your interview and tell the interviewer on the same-day. The immigration officer will probably go through all the information you provide and will correct the answer if he/she sees anything wrong.

Hello fellow visa journier,
Just wanna share my joyful moment that I became a USC! The process wasn't always going smoothly because where I live in NY wasn't fast enough due to the high volume of applicant. Nonetheless, i think it's worth the wait when you know this journey has its end. At the end of the day, America welcomes all individuals seeking freedom, those are for freedom and willing to take responsibility in this country.
I wish everyone the best of luck !

And aren' t you the luckiest one took only couple of months? I said 'overall', meaning in most cases. have you seen other applicants other than yourself squared it away so fast? Correct me if I'm wrong again

I just sent my forms in today to become a citizen I am in Albany NY. Has anyone any idea how long the wait is for the interview and where my oath ceremony would be? Thanks for any help.
So, Are you telling me you are living in a capital of your state? (that is question #44 on your civic test
) I don't know how long for sure because each case will vary. But based on mine and what other ppl's experiences, overall NYS deals with the heaviest volumes of applicants in the east coast. Good luck !

Hello everyone,
So my wife is finally here for almost a month now. She received her SSN after only one week after her POE date & the Green Card after 20 days. He visa was a CR-1. We checked the box on the application to have them issued with my last name but when we got them both have her Chinese last name. I was wondering how hard it would be to change the name on these?
Any help would be great. Maybe it's not worth the extra paper work but in 3 years when she can become a citizen we want everything in my last name so it might be better to do it now.
Thanks.........Happy in Phoenix
I had a similar case as your wife. The green card showed up with the original name although we checked in a box with the new last name and the work authorization card was that name on it. Think that was an honest mistake with our IO( there's no way we can know his name because his name was said as guest). We immediately called the customer service they said we have to pay a fee with $280 back then even if it wasn't our fault and it was an error so we didnt change it. Hope you guys better resolve this issue.

thanks guys.. i agree all of you USCIS better invent and start to use a brain scanner machine so no one has to worry about issues like these.. good luck all to of us, present and future citizens of USA!

So I received my appointment letter today, While I was reading the letter it says that the proceeding will take about TWO HOURS!!! WHY? I have read here ppl experiences that it only took 15 or 20 minutes? is the whole process TWO hours? Why NYC has to be such a pain in.... Gosh!
hello alaskan
unrelated to your topic, but how long did it take for you to get an appointment letter ever since your fingerprint taken in NYC?

Depends on what is your purpose and privilege you are seeking after you become a citizen. If you desperately want to be a USC just to stand on Citizen's line at the US airport, you don't have to to be USC; you can still stand on the same line if you are a representative/expat of foreign government or world organization.

Based on reading how the process is going, I learned the IO might ask every single question on your n-400, but i cannot seem to remember what was the date I completed the form on Part 11, right to your signature. Is it going to be ok if you honestly answer to that question that you are not sure? what would you do when you are unsure ? ideas and tips much appreciated.
-
this is completely optional. It doesnot give you any privilege or slow down process.
Thanks for the answer. have a good day
-
Is it mandatory?? Does it give you any other privilege other than letting you know how the process is going by text message? Can it be affected to your processing time ( faster or slower the process)?? Does anybody have experience on this? looking forward to hear the answer. thanks much.
-
Thank you folks. Honestly, i too had a hard time finding any difference between those old and newest updated forms... think it should be fine.. Have a good day
-
If the forms on USCIS have been updated then you must use the updated forms or face an RFE for out-dated forms.
ty inky for the prompt answer. good thing i looked at it.
-
Thank you everyone. Now everything makes more sense and clear. wish everyone has a smooth sailing on this journey. Bless all of you!!!
-
I was about to send my N-400 form but I realized the date has been updated at the bottom of the pages. should i go through all over and fill out again? another thing, some people told me it is safe to send more documents than what the document checklist and instruction say e.g. state ID and passport?? I need an opinion from people who already approved and citizenship at their hands. Answers will be greatly appreciated.
Dual Citizenship
in US Citizenship General Discussion

I was from a country where dual citizenship seen it as an evil doing or still at war situation. People from a country allows a dual citizenship is very lucky so that way they can have the freedom doing both countries benefits, not to lose their heritage without any guilt yet identifying themselves as (your birth country) -American citizen. But rules are rules. if there is no such negotiation between the two countries your previous country and America. I'd be it to be an american. Indeed, it is what it is. I am more patriotic than anyother citizen maybe solely cos of that reason that my birth county wouldn't give people the freedom to keep their own countries. I pledge allegiance to the American flag. And that's it. It's your choice. If they can't accept the way you are you have to choose one or the other.
