  1. My wife currently has a permanent resident card. Everything including the permanent resident card has her married name but the foreign passport still has had her maiden name. We just applied for citizenship last month which included putting in the passport number (I think?). Are there any issues with changing the passport to the married name? Will the naturalization process or background checks get confused with this change?

Why are we changing the passport to the married name? We already bought international tickets in her married name a few months ago assuming she would have US passport (in married name) by summer but it does not look like that will happen.

    Thanks for any help.

PS: Sorry for the double post. In the previous thread I goofed up on the spelling in the title and it didn't allow me to edit.

  2. 9.5 months since filing, transfer to CSC, finally got email today that the case is approved.

Did call to open a Service request a month ago and was told you can't open a service request. Status says that you should just wait - they are just busy.

Was getting ready to go the congressmen route next week but I am glad we didn't have to do that.

Good luck to all those that are waiting. There may just be light at the end of the tunnel yet.

  3. So, we got the EAD a week ago. Went to DMV/MVA (Maryland) to get a learners permit and they ran a Department of Homeland Security check of their own which came back as "Additional Verification Needed". So, they had us fill out a form and they will forward that to DHS for approval. Whats the deal? Why is EAD card not enough for them? And how long will this manual check take?

We also went to DMV for learners permit BEFORE the EAD, when she had her maiden name but only 30 days left on the I-94 (came on K1 Visa). That time the DHS check was a "success" but since the learners permit will only be good for 30 days, we decided not to get it. Since then, her name is changed on SSN card and we filed all the AOS stuff in the married name so EAD is in married name.

  4. okay transfer to a level 2 officer was simple. After 25 minutes on hold they were able to tell me the biometrics date which is July 16th. They said they only mailed the letter 4 days ago and if we don't receive it in one more week then call back and they will fax. Finally, it looks like this train is moving!!

Got the appointment letter on June 28 for Baltimore, MD. Did a walk-in biometrics this morning July 02 in Alexandria, VA (I work around the area). There were 12-15 people in line ahead of us when it opened. No questions asked we were in and out in about 15 minutes max.

The USCIS website is already updated to say "On July 2, 2012, we ordered production of your new card." (Is is very strange.. Updated so quickly [same day])

Also got the Travel Advance Parole in mail today. (USCIS website case is unchanged from initial stage)

Adjustment of Status (USCIS website case also updated to say that "File has been transferred" which was done like 1.5 months ago)

Random things happening but they are all good!! This is moving after 2 months of standstill.

  5. After over 2 months (April 18, 2012 NOA1 EAD) they didn't issue a biometrics appointment. After opening a service request 2 weeks ago, now they say that the letter was mailed but we still haven't received it. They said that they can only open another service request after 3 weeks so call back in 4-5 days. My question is if it is possible to request that the letter be emailed when I call again? We got the NOA1 without any issues but I am not sure why biometrics letter is not being delivered.

  6. While adjusting form K1, we got a mailed notice that the AOS case is transferred to CSC which I think is normal.

But we have not received anything for the EAD biometrics yet. I see on the status page that it about less than a month to get the biometrics notice and our has been over 45 days. Is it possible to call the DOD number to get the status in case the postal mail letter was misplaced by USPS?

The uscis website says "Initial Review" but I have no hopes that it will be updated beyond that status.

Any idea? wait? call somewhere? etc?

    Thanks

  7. We live in Maryland and the local Field office is Baltimore. We filled all the paperwork about a month ago. How can I see stats about how long [roughly] it should take (based on VJ member stats) to receive the biometrics letter (which is the first step?).

    Thanks

EDIT: I do see that Baltimore is processing I-485 from October 2011 but it does not drill into biometrics. Is it possible to view those stats.

  8. I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status.I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. If you are a K-1, K-2, K-3 or K-4 visa holder the I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination. If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination transcription is required to be completed by seeing a Civil Surgeon to have certain portions of the I-693 completed and have the Civil Surgeon certify the form (sealing the original in an envelope and giving you a copy).

Beneficiary is on K1 AND Medical Examination was done less than a year ago (only 3 months ago)..

    >I-693 instructions state that you are not required to have another medical examination as long as your Form I-485 is filed within one year of your overseas medical examination

Yes, but do we still need to fill out I-693 without having a medical examination or we don't include the form I-485 at all? What proof we do send that the examination was done overseas 3 months ago?

    >If you are missing any shots from your overseas medical a I-693 vaccination

How do we know this? She was given a sealed envelope that she took to the embassy. How can we find out if any shots were missing? She did get some shots at the overseas medical.

Thanks for much for all your help...
