  1. Just wanted to update - we were approved March 2nd, receive the PR card today. Wow. I really thought we were going to have to send in more information, I really didn't stuff it as much as others and left out what I thought was from vital info. I did have photos of us from skinny to fat over the years we've been together! Maybe that helped. I'm so happy, haven't told the husband yet he's visiting family back home. With all that's going on in the US right now I was rather concerned.

Anyways, wishing you guys will be getting good news as well. Thank EVERYONE for answering questions and helping us (and everyone else) through this process.

  2. Ha - I should have waited until the mail came. We received the extension today.

Are we to put the receipt date or the date we received the receipt on the spreadsheet?

Also, in reading, it says if we have not already done so, provide supporting documents yadda yadda yadda. Has anyone ever sent in additional documents before? I don't want to receive an RFE and man I'm paranoid after reading other post. I want to send more combined financial documentation! I don't think I included enough.

  3. Wait... I think the problem is rather that his medical in Australia was well over a year ago and when you got the I-693 it was only to transcribe the vaccinations so the medical exam section including the test results would have been intentionally left blank, so you will likely need a full I-693 to be completed now.

We were told we needed to get the whole thing so last year he got the full med exam but since a year has passed since that one... I believe we need to get the full one again which is what the agent told us. Luckily I think he wont have to get the vaccinations again but is not happy about having to have another flu shot. When we sent the package in, we were within the time limit so it's our bad luck that it took a bit longer (them misplacing our birth certificate/marriage license, further info on co-sponsor - and then having the package sit on someone's desk for over 30 days until we called and next day it moved). The interviewer seemed as if she wanted to approve us right then but alas... here we still are.

  4. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Maybe this can help others check over their papers and/or avoid that civil surgeon. You should have him redo it for free.

~ Moved from AOS from Family Based main forum to Progress Reports sub-forum - topic is case status ~

I checked them over and thought everything was good to go but unfortunately no. We thought about going back to have them redone there but are scared to return to them, this could have been a biggie (still unsure if it might be) but hopefully not. We made another appointment at a closer office with an appointment on Monday.

Does anyone have any links to what a properly filled out form should look like for those who may face the same issue as we did?

I'll keep you updated and wish luck to those of you going through the same thing

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this. We are on our 4th RFE as well, getting the final one at the interview (the civil surgeon messed up our paperwork - he didn't check off a few things). It's been 6.5 long months and I suspect we won't hear anything until the 7th month. It's nerve wrecking and for him a little deflating. Congrats!!! And thanks again for sharing your journey.

  6. The interview itself was actually very straightforward. We arrived and hour early, Los Angeles Building, was called in an hour and forty five minutes later. Very nice woman asked us how we met, who was our cosponsor (mom) and general chitchat about vacations and why we didn't have a huge wedding. Then the bombshell the Civil Surgeon did not complete our I-693 he left quite a few boxes unchecked so it looks like none of the tests were performed. They actually tried to call a couple times but no one answered so now we have to wait until we can contact them to fix this as we have another rfe for this document to be corrected or worse he has to go through all the shots again which he doesn't want to do.

    We're both furious.

So heed my warning anyone trying to get medical done from Jeffery Adam Ostriker from Costal Medical Corp dont. We thought something was off after we first saw him but now that we have this fix it letter...

    It's just frustrating.

  7. No... I'm talking about AOS filers who are adjusting from K-1 who have gotten interviews for the 485 within 150 days or less and received their GC (or interview dates) from July 2013 until now. I've been reading others accounts the last month or so and there seem to be many cases of people getting interviews within 120 days, the only ones who seem to have had to wait longer are the ones who weren't getting interviews at all. Even in August 2013 / September 2013 there are some who have all ready received their interview dates. I'm checking the timelines and reading comments. I think it's a toss up certainly but in the last couple of months people have filed in the fall have seemed to get interviews scheduled. Either way... I'll let you know what becomes.

Guess it's a potato potato thing.

  8. I'm a bit confused,

We did not file out AOS until just about a year of my partner being here. We're waiting for the EAD and AP. The EAD will allow him to work and the AP should allow him to travel outside of the country however, I read somewhere I believe that if the applicant has been in the US over a certain time then the AP really isn't any good/valid and they must wait for their GC before any travel abroad. I am hoping that I'm wrong on this, he really wanted to spend Chrismas back "home" (with parents) its critical at this point and I'm not sure we'll get the GC in time since we had an RFE and December's coming up fast.

So I guess my question is are AOS applicants who have been in the US for a year able to use AP to travel outside of the country?

I know I've seen this topic a few times before but cannot locate at the moment any - so if you have any links please feel free to forward them to us here. Thanks!

  9. In my experience most Australians pay something for insurance. I guess it depends on what plan you've chosen though - my husband pays about $75 a month, he's never gotten it for free (he wishes!). But anyways, I pay about 140 for mine in the US. When we're able to I'll add him to my insurance for a total of about 250 for the both of us and it's only that expensive because I chose the one with Materinty. Insurance can be inexpensive in the states you just need to do some research - and try not to go through your job if theyre not offering a less expensive plan, 800 is way too much - WOW! and ouch for the pocketbook.

  10. Yeah the woman had told him to return today as their system was down for fingerprints, said everything looked good so I just gathered that meant yes. They seemed to have a good rapport with one another, said she was very smiley while talking with him. Interview took less than ten minutes. I think he was in my 11 and out by 11:20 so... Phew. I figured she'd tell him if he needed more right then. Wonder if there's been any cases where the visa was handed out right away. Wouldn't it be nice if he returned tomorrow and they handed it to him!

Athena - I wasn't sure about the paying for mail to be sent, I had read it elsewhere and wondered if it applied here. But no one asked him to pay for mail. Though yes, defn the fingerprints

  11. So he had his interview today. The woman he said was nice and they joked around with one another. She asked him a few questions, how did we meet, remarked our story was like a romance novel, have we met our parents, visited one another and what I did for a living, when were we getting married. Pretty basic questions. Had him sign the 156 and then told him to come back tomorrow morning to have his fingerprints done as their system was down today

Now... we're both trying to figure out if we're approved. She didn't mention it to him but the interview was quick and easy. He's a bit worried because of all the other information we've read on others and the fact that she didn't say he was approved.

I'm wondering myself but not too worried. I figure if she didn't ask for any additional information and wanted him to return for his fingerprints it should be okay. However I do have a question... she didn't ask him if he wanted to pay for expedited mail to get the visa - is that something they normally ask you to do? Or do they just send it? Would they give him the visa tomorrow when he goes in for fingerprints or is that unheard of?

Thanks guys. Almost there! So close we can both happily taste it.

OH btw... he visited last week - for those who have followed my thread. Brought all the extra information we might need for customs, k1 package, bank account, employer note... they asked for nothing and waved him through quick and easy. All that worry for nothing!
