  1. Correct. NVC will take somedays to process and sent to consulate. NVC often does not update records about processing the petition until the time is sent out to consulate. There is a way to find out when it arrived to the consulate. Check "DHL trick" here in VJ for details. You are already almost at the end of the tunnel into the interview at consulate!!

Thanks.... but where do I find the DHL trick/ tracking #???

  2. Bear in mind that most of the COs working at the USE around the world are not up on the more complicated IRS tax rules, they know just the very basics about tax filings. Just like you, the same thing is happening to US military members that have served in the TAX FREE zones in IRAQ and AFGAN. In some cases for military members if they have been in the TAX FREE zone for more that a year, on our W-2s it looks like we made no money for the year because our pay is tax free. VISAs have been declined in Ethiopia just on the basis that the CO did not know what they were looking at when they try to interpit a military member's W-2. You would think, they would be advised on these small but very vital facts but they are not kept up to speed or informed about the various tax rules. Try contacting the USE she did her interview at and explain it so they can understand. Chances are they did not even look at letter from your church. God Bless you,,,Hope your situation change soon.

  3. I know exactly what you are going through. In times like these you have to keep you mind engaged on something you are passionate about. Start formulating a plan of what you will do when you finally get to the point when you can work. Keep your mind on the future and take it off the present. If there is a food bank or something else in your area where you can volunteer your time it might help you take your mind off your present situation. I am in a very similar situation, I know your pain, but things will change for the better for you soon.

  5. This is directed to all prior or current Ethiopian K-1 VISA applicantsout there on VJ. I have just received my electronic NOA2 last Friday, and wouldlike to get a jump on the next two steps /process. Can someone please help mefind a check list for the Ethiopian US Embassy for all required documents whichwill be need for the Interview in Addis? Thanks for any help you all can sendme.

  6. I was part of that March group, my NOA1 was dated 3/10/11. I just got a response(NOA2) 10/14/11, and I had to get my congressman involved to get that out of them. I dont understand it myself. I am hoping the rest of the way is not so much of a fight. I have just about had enough of this pain and heart break. I am at the point of thinking about leaving the country and move to Ethiopia so I can be with my family.

  7. Brace yourself for a long ride my friend. Because she is from Iran, this most likely will not be a standard 4-6 journey. DHS is going to look at her hard. I mean up, down, sideways and every other way they can think of. These days they are in the paranoid mode. My fiancée is from Ethiopia and just because she worked in a Muslim country they gave us a hard time, and we have kids together. So expect the unexpected. Good luck, hope you have a better experience with them than I did.

  8. Hi everyone,

Here's my situation. I'm currently in a long distant relationship with a Persian girl. I'm here in California and she's in Iran. We've never met face-to-face yet, but we've video-chatted consistently since we both decided that we liked each other very much. We've known each other via facebook since May of this year. Our love has grown exponentially the more we become acquainted with each other each day.

We've intended to meet later on this year, or the beginning of next year, in Istanbul, Turkey. Both of us have discussed extensively about getting married. I'm madly in love with this girl and she's with me. I wanted her so badly to be with me in the US.

We have so many things in common, even though she was brought up in a Muslim culture. I'm not a Muslim, but we share many core moral values, ethics, spiritual beliefs and interests. Her parents have no problem with her marrying me.

I've inquired with a few lawyers regarding the fastest and easiest process to bring her here, and they all told me to go with the K-1 application. The first lawyer told me that the process would take 3-4 months (fee = $3000). The rest of them told me a minimum of 6 months (fee = $1000). I haven't retained any services from them. Thanks God that I found this website before wasting a penny on a lawyer.

Please tell me which is the best way to go about securing a visa for my girlfriend. I already know that with K-1, the couple has to have met face-to-face, which we've already planned to do in a few months. I'm still wondering if K-3 is a better option if we went ahead and got married in Turkey. I'm not sure which is a better option. Please advise.

I want to apologize in advance if my topic is out of place. Any advice would be extremely appreciative. Thank you all for reading. :)

  9. Sorry I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm having trouble searching for the answer. My NOA1 was received by VSC on April 12. I got an RFE after 5 months, and it has been 6 weeks since they received my response to it. Still no NOA2. I'm very unhappy about this.

How do I ask this to be sped up, or do I have to wait for 60 days for RFE response to be processed?

In my case after waiting a ridiculous 8 months, I finally wrote my congressman and in 3 days I got an answer and an approval. I don’t know why it had to take all that for them to just show some consideration for the people whose life they impact in such a profound way. Sometime I think they just don’t care.
