sctdixon got a reaction from trublubu2 in Naturalization Ceremony Today
Today my wife had her naturalization ceremony to become a US Citizen. It only took 3 years and 10 months from applying for her GC to becoming a citizen.
I am so proud of her and she is so proud to be an American citizen now.
Thanks to VJ Forum for all the excellent information we've received over the last few years. Good luck to everybody else on their journey!

One of the most important things you can do "BEFORE" you leave your home country is to get every imaginable document related to your medical training translated into English if not already in English. Also, the ECFMG sent documentation to my wife's university to verify her education and they never responded. Luckily we were still in Peru and she was able to go back to the university in person to "prompt" them to return the documentation. That would've been impossible if we were already in the States. It took here numerous days and many hours back at her university to get everything addressed that the ECFMG needed.
I would be more than happy to help anybody else out with further information about this topic. Send me a PM and we can exchange emails as I don't frequent this site much more since we're back in the states.

The above write up is very accurate as it is the same process we (my Dr wife) is going through right now. But the FIRST thing is to see if your foreign medical school is listed in the ECFMG as "qualified medical school". If it is not listed there, there is no way for you to even start this process as they will not acept your foreign medical credentials. Not all medical school around the world are accepted by the ECFMG & USMLE. This is very important!
