  1. Hey all-

I'm sure this is covered elsewhere, so apologies for the redundancy. I'm going to Colombia to be at my fiancee's interview, and am trying to determine what documents to bring. I've read very inconsistent data so thought I'd try a new topic here. For example, some people say you need the I-864, while others say I-134. Seems like I-134 is correct, but can you imagine how much it would stink to get there and realize I didn't have the correct doc...? Also: Bank statements, letters of employment, criminal background check, etc...what is needed, what isn't. For both her as well as for me.

    Your help is appreciated!

  2. Hi All - I've been working on a K1 Visa for my fiancee since last Fall. All was going swimmingly until her I129 got sent to her country's embassy, which is Colombia / Bogota. That was back in January 2012. Since then, she and I have received nothing. She's called a few times and gotten completely stonewalled. They don't appear to have any clue what they're doing, i.e. nothing computerized, no queue to look at, etc. We're going on week 8 now, which seems bizarre.

My Question #1: how long has it taken other people to get their Package 3/4 from the Colombian Embassy? I presumed it would get shipped within a week or two, but we're now at two months. And getting information out of them is like getting water out of a rock. Question #2: is there *any* way to get decent information from that consulate? Its completely beyond frustrating at this point...any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

    thanks,

  4. Can anyone provide a link on the USCIS website that provides the mailing addresses for I-129F's associated with K1 Visa Applications? The only address given in their Instructions is for Lewisville, TX. It *appears* this address is for K3 applications. The instructions are written so poorly its tough to tell.

I would otherwise send to the Lewisville address, however it appears there are multiple processing facilities throughout the USA. I presume we should be sending the K1 applications directly to the appropriate Processing Facility.

Nothing is easy in this process, including finding the mailing address :help:

  5. Ok, I'm very new to all this and am trying to get a K1 for my fiancee without the use of a lawyer. Generally it seems straightforward, however I'm getting hung up on the Affadavit of Support. The flow diagrams here don't seem to mention it, and the USCIS Website doesn't provide much explanation. I imagine my answers are embedded somewhere in this website, but am struggling to find a clear answer...so here I am!

    Questions:

    1. Although the USCIS site for I-129f's doesnt' say it, I believe a K1 must be accompanied by an Affadavit of Support. So my question is: Do I send the Affadavit of Support *with* my K1 application, or does it get sent later in the process?

    2. The USCIS site references 2 forms for Affadavit of Support(s): the I-864 and the I-134. Which to use? The I-864 is a little less stringent, for example the I-134 requires a letter from my bank and my employer. Doable, but a pain. I-864 just seems to want copies of everything.

While I'm at it, another unrelated question:

    3. Someone mentioned that besides our Letters of Intent to Marry, I should include a longer letter expressing my love as well as a history of our relationship. That would be to supplement all my other evidence (Plane receipts, photos, etc). Is this a good idea? I'm taking a lawyer's approach, i.e. provide what's asked for and nothing more. Sometimes the extra stuff will work against you.

Any information will be greatly appreciated!!
