My wife had her waiver appt on 2/28 and they did not take her passport. As far as we know depending on where your 601 package goes for approval they may or may not take your passport. Many approvals are coming from Mex city, Moneterey Mex, and even California. There is something new in Juarez everyday, but yes some passports are being taken and some are not. For passports that are not taken we should receive an answer (is what they tell you at the consulate) between 4-8 weeks roughly (approval/ref etc). Then we wait for an "instructions" letter, where we are asked to submit the passport back to Juarez through DHL. And after a few weeks we should get the famous package delievered by DHL with our ticket back home (passport along with visa)!!! Hope this helps, but like I said thing change day by day..Good luck.

Is it possible to get ur visa issued thru dhl without them taking ur passport? I have read about a few cases in February where they took the aliens mex passport but my waiver appt was in on the 2nd and they didn't take my passport????

That's great! remember to arrive at least on Sunday so you can have your medical examination on Monday. Don't be scared about Juarez, I was too. However I actually felt comfortable there, even though I went to Juarez all by myself (and I'm a 21 years old girl). Just remember to not go out at night, and to not wear jewelery or dress to flashy.
Another thing. Don't read the news while your there. It'll only scare you. The consulate area is very secure, there's always patrols taking rounds around the zone, so you should be fine
Please feel free to contact me if you need any info about the consulate or the zone. I'll be glad to help (:
Hi there,
Do you recommend staying in a local hotel? How far is the airport from the consulate? My wife has her interview in Dec. Thanks, VB1.

Hi SoAnxious, we are still waiting for an answer. What about you anything? We have learned from other members that some waiver appointments from 2/24 have already received approval notices. So hopefully our approvals are coming soon...when was your waiver appt?
