  1. Some random questions, that may have been asked before..... (moving from Canada to the US)

-do I need to take a driving test again, or do they switch my license?

-should I put my vehicle in his name for insurance purposes?

-has anyone been approved for advanced parole recently.... about how long did it take?

-about how long does POE usually take(it said expect about an hour)

-do they usually remove all of your belongings to look through, should I have a list?

-to the parents who have moved- how did you feel your children were received by the American students??

  2. Just thought I would quickly write down my experience for anyone wondering how the process may go, or how it did for me anyways :)

I arrived at the consulate at 7 30,there were already about 10 people in front of me, but many more came after. People are there for many different types of Visa's, so don't panic :) They let you in the doors one by one, the security is pretty no nonsense they are not there to fool around. Show them your stuff (have it ready) and move on. You will then wait in a waiting room, then go in an elevator to wait in another waiting room, after you get a number.

Disregard your number sequence.... your number comes up when it comes up, even if you were there first or your number was first. When I was called I had to sign and show different paperwork, was asked numerous questions, again as I had heard on here, there were no trick question, very straight forward. Took about 15-20 min, I think, hard to tell, at that moment every second feels long...... The man was very nice and patient, he even told me not to be nervous. When we were done he said I had to do my interview with a consulate officer and then we would be done.

I waited again for about 10 min, then my number came up, I went to the window, the kids and I had a short interview with a very nice friendly man, then he said you`re APPROVED!! Best day :D

So long story short, we started this in June 2011 we finally have our answer today :) (3 hours and 2 windows at the interview )

  3. Thank you all for the info :) I will look into the compliance letter, and insurance :/ sooooo much to remember!

My kids are 9 and 11, I hope they can move with a pass, fingers crossed I will contact the school once they say "YES" :D

I'm glad I can change my name right away, I wouldn't feel right without his name :)

  4. Just a little over 40 days until I leave to have my medical and interview, so I have a few last ends to sew up......

How do I get my vehicle across the border, when do I cancel my Canadian insurance??

Does anyone know the average time it takes to receive your Visa in the mail?? I have read as long as a month and as short as a week......

I need to transfer my children into an American school in which their school year ends a month before it does here??? How does this work, I really don't want to wait 3 more months to move, but I don't want them to have to repeat a grade either :/

I also read you cannot change your name the day you get married, you have to wait, is this true??

  5. I am interested in this too, as even if they didn't need to interview them , they are still subject to the visa fee of $350, so that has to be paid up front. They didn't say the kids didn't have to go or not , so I just scheduled them with me as they are on the visa. Everyone needs a medical as well, and if you don't live next door, 2 trips is usually out of the question. Curious if anyone from Canada, didn't bring their kids with them??

  6. Does anyone know which place is closest to have your medical to where you get your interview, also which one is faster as I will have to stay in Montreal from medical to interview as I live about 20 hours away.

  7. I thought you could pay at the interview (for K1) but when I went to book the interview it said I couldn't continue without full payment of 350$ each applicant ?? (by credit card or paypal) Just curious if this is the only way?

  8. I called and they said package 3 was received (for K1), and pack 4 should get to me next week. Do I have to wait for the package or should I go ahead and start trying to book and interview...... And just to make sure I understand the process right, I just go through the consulate web site where I set up an account to book?

  9. I guess I'm confused, the taxes run for CTC from July to July from the prior year. So the month that you leave you are no longer eligible for this or any other tax credit I paid into while I was a resident?? Just curious I would hate to end up owing a chunk of money, after I moved!

  10. I called about package 3 they said it was logged and sent out Dec. 22nd???? Is anyone else waiting this long for their package to come? I know you can send the package anyways, but I would like to see the papers first!! Also does anyone know about how far Montreal is booking interviews ??
