  1. One last thing.. please start your time line. This is how we keep up with your process so we can give you information on where you are and what to expect. Please only take advice from those who have been to Nigeria and gone thru this process. I find if you stay in your own country you get the most information. Spain cant advise you on NIgeria...understand. I've been a few times, married there, family there been thru the evidence gathering and paperwork and interview.. so stay close to the ones who have gone thru we all will be careful to give you the right information

  2. I'm sorry I started the process November 2010. I filled the i130 you do not need the fiancee visa..they will kick it out. You will need to compile evidence like pictures, letters, emails, phone records, conversations via messenger or skype 3 years tax statements (see the poverty guidelines) Affidavits of your relationship from family friends in NIgeria and U.S. Make extra copies of everything, He will need copies of everything. You will get all of your information via email and mail for each step you take. READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND ASK QUESTIONS. My husband interview was October 2011 he was in the States November 2011 one year to date. If you have questions inbox me and I'll answer them for you. Keep your head lifted and depend on God he will see you through.

CONGRATS ON THE WEDDING HAVE A WONDERUFL TIME.

  5. Hello, well.. I did it all on my own. I didn't even know know about VJ (lol). I just read very well and took my time filling out the paper work. Everything went fine. First don't let the process scare you or intimidate you. Pray and get started... No need to wait. I can't say not to use a service because Toni used on and it went well. I just didn't have the extra money to use them. Most people do it themselves and ask questions of the ones who have gone thru the process and the husband or wife is now here. I don't mind helping if you email me...Toni has great answers as well as we pretty much went thru the end of processing together. Blessings... you can do it!

  6. Hi VJ's i really need some advice friends,

my fiance (USC) had applied for the nigerian visa at the atlanta embassy, we submitted everything (flight booking, hotel booking, an invitation letter, my Nig passport data page, bank details), with two money orders(cos she doesn't have CC) one for 160 and 30. The 160 was cashed and the application was sent back with d 30$ money order was returned back with the application and NO VISA< she tried calling the atlanta embassy, but no responce.

FIRST....DID SHE SEND IN HER PASSPORT WITH THE APPLICATION AND THE FEE...? NOW....WHAT DID YOUR INVITATION LETTER SAY?? BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO BE SPECIFIC. IF YOU WANT I CAN COACH YOU ON WHAT IT SHOULD SAY. SHE MAY HAVE TO RESUBMIT THE APPLICATION IF THIS WAS NOT DONE. I SUBMITTED MINE TO WASHINGTON DC. I GOT IT BACK IN THREE DAYS WITH THE VISA STAMPED IN MY PASSPORT. IT'S DIFFICULT GETTING THEM ON THE PHONE IN ATL AND WASHINGTON BUT SHE CAN TRY WASHINGTON. SEND ME AN INBOX FOR MORE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS SO SHE CAN GET THAT VISA. I'LL HELP ALL I CAN.

  7. Happy thanksgiving everyone! For those USC 's fortunate enough to be spending thanksgiving with your Nigerian sweetheart (or any other African country) I'm curious about what feast is on the table? Just thought it would be a fun topic. I ain't gonna lie.... When I visited him, I didn't like the fish eye stew stuff my fiance cooked. And he hated the chicken and dumplings I made for him (it was the best I have ever made). He called them chicken and goblins. Lol. I'm wondering what our future multi cultural thanksgiving meals will look like.

THE ONLY REQUEST WAS PEPPER SOUP MADE WITH FISH...EASY ENOUGH. HE CAME IN LAST YEAR RIGHT AT THANKSGIVING TIME. HE LOVED THE TURKEY...LOOKED AT THE DRESSING...ATE A LITTLE MAC AND CHEESE BUT HE LOVED THE POTATO SALAD. OF COURSE RICE WAS LIKE A BLESSING TO HIM. THIS YEAR HE HAS TO WORK ON TURKEY DAY SO AS EVERYONE IS GATHERING AROUND THE TABLE...I'LL BE IN THE KITCHEN PACKING HIS AND TAKE IT TO HIM AT HIS JOB...I'LL MISS HAVING HIM WITH ME ON CHRISTMAS TOO.

  8. If she answered that incorrectly, what about the question asking if anyone has ever filed on your behalf?

I don't know how long you and your fiancee' have been together, but being denied a visa in the past is something that you should have discussed before now. If she didn't know the answer to this what else is she just assuming and you haven't disclosed?

I must respond with a careful answer. Considering the fact that you are coming out of Nigeria and they are very strict and very hard on this country having been denied BEFORE is a HUGE DEAL. I must caution you to be very honest because they keep the records. If you were denied less than 10yrs ago, was it relative to a marriage situation or even if it was on your own behalf they may suspect foul play. I do suggest that she call and ask them to send it back or just send in a new up dated one...but this time be very specific. You may want to look at your entire application and see if there were any other things that have been omitted. I'm not trying to scare you I just want you to be very accurate. My husband and I have been where you are right now and it's imperative that you answer each question honestly and check behind yourselves before you mail it. I agree with Olomi you must be perfectly sure before you mail things off. Take this advice from your Nigerian co-hearts who have been thru the process and who's husbands are here in the states. We know how "hard and difficult " they can be. Blessings unto you!

  9. This is probably a silly question, and I believe there was a discussion about this awhile ago, I should of paid attention. but what is this US Travel Docs website and can a K1 visa applicant schedule there interview from this site? or is this one of those random sites.

HELLO NVC WILL SET THE INTERVIEW DATE FOR YOU. YOU CAN NOT DO IT ONLINE. ONCE YOUR CASE HAS COMPLETED THEY WILL SET THE DATE...YOU MAY HAVE TO KEEP CALLING TO GET THE ACTUAL DATE BUT THEY SET IT. CONGRATS ON GETTING TO THE END OF THE LINE...FOR WHILE.:)

  10. I have a question about a sponsor for the affidavit of support. It would be a person other than myself. Will the sponsor need to show proof of income and tax returns every year? I'm trying to understand all the responsibilities and obligations of the sponsor and I believe I read that a sponsor is responsible for my beneficiary for ten years I'm wondering if he has to keep proving his income and eligibility to sponsor every year. Thank you.

HAD TO GET A CO-SPONSOR BECAUSE I WAS ILL ONE YEAR AND DIDN'T MAKE ENOUGH . SO MY GOOD FRIEND GAVE ME HER TAX RETURN FOR THE YEAR I WAS SHORT. I USED THE I864EZ FORM. I SENT ALL THREE YEARS OF MY TAXES AND ONE YEAR OF HERS. THE FORM IS VERY EASY TO USE. THE FORM MAKES MY FRIEND RESPONSIBLE FOR MY HUSBAND...(NOT REALLY) THIS IS SO THAT HE WONT BE A PUBLIC CHARGE TO THE UNITED STATES. IN REALITY... IT'S ME AND MY HUSBAND...MY FRIEND IS OUT THERE DOING WHAT EVER NOT WORRYING ABOUT IT AT ALL. MY HUSBAND IS NOW WORKING TWO JOBS SO ALL IS WELL. DON'T WORRY.. YOU KNOW YOUR HUSBAND AND YOU KNOW HE IS CAPABLE OF BEING EMPLOYED...YOUR FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER YOU ASK SHOULD TRUST YOUR JUDGEMENT AND KNOW THAT YOU WOULD NEVER PUT THEM IN FINANCIAL DANGER. IT WILL BE FINE. AND FOR NIGERIA..YOU NEED TO HAVE ALL YOUR PAPERS IN ORDER. SO TAKE IT FROM ME... NIGERIA TO NIGERIA...BE BLESSED

  11. I am looking at the timeline and I am trying to understand what NVC means by Receive I-864 Package. I never receive any I-864 package by email. I only receive I-864 Bill and DS3032 choice of agent. I have paid and mail out the I-864 package. when it state receive I-864 package, is it the same with the date I received I-864 bill and DS3032 choice of agent form. Please advise. Thanks.

Hello, I864 refers to your AOS or Affidavit of Support 3 years of tax information that you sent in to show that your spouse will not become a public charge to the United States. You are doing fine.. keep going very proud of you!

  12. My deepest sympathies to you and your family.

You can file for ROC on your own, and I believe you can go ahead and file now and not have to wait until the 90 window before your card expires. You will need to send a copy of his death certificate and the usual evidence that your marriage was bona fide. http://www.visajourn...tions.html#7.11

THIS IS EXCELLENT ADVICE. YOU CAN FILE THE ROC ON YOUR OWN YOUR SITUATION IS GENUINE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE NO ISSUE. I AM SO SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR HUSBAND. MY HEART AND PRAYERS ARE HERE FOR YOU TO VENT IF AND WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE IT. YOU ARE LOVED HERE AND ALWAYS WELCOME FOR OUR EMBRACE. IN TIME.. NO MATTER THE HOW LONG YOU WILL HEAL UNTIL THEN....TAKE YOUR TIME. ..LAGOSLOVE

  13. What is the big deal is about in-laws?!?!?! People complain about them all the time.

I have a WONDERFUL relationship with my mother-in-law!! It's very peaceful and loving!

Of course, she lives half way around the world and neither one of us speak each other's language! Could this have anything to do with our great "relationship"????

I am proud to say that I love my in laws. My father in law speaks great English. My Mother in law isn't so bad with her English. I truly belive that It was my husband who created the peace between us. He facilitated the relationship early on and it built a trust and openness between us that has not failed. I'm so happy to have them because both my Mother and Father are gone from me now and I felt like such a grown orphan. They have embraced me and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for them. I know this isn't always the case. Mother in laws can cause issues unheard of...Monster in law but give it an amiable try and pray for peace.

  14. Thanks for the clarification. The correct response is 1. Another question, what color of pen should she use to sign Part 1 of the DS-230 Application. I was going through the forum and some VJers keep mentioning using blue pen. Which pen should she use? Blue Pen or Black Pen. Please clarify. Thanks.

THE CORRECT RESPONSE IS "ONE" BECAUSE THIS IS YOUR CURRENT MARRIAGE. NO OTHER MARRIAGES BETWEEN THE TWO OF YOU...... KEEP GOING OLE BOY SHE'LL BE HERE SOON.

  15. It seems the more friends I make on VJ the more I seem to find and hear about Nigeria turning down Mixed Race Marriages during the first interview. If you are in a mixed race relationship and have been denied during interview or the race of your husband or wife has come up in interview, how did you handle it? How long have you been fighting to have your husband with you?

One of my new friends has been waiting 3 years for her husband to join her. Another is close to the same time frame and one other couple has been waiting, fighting, praying, writting letters, etc. for six years!

If this is indeed happening, how can we head this issue off BEFORE it reaches the inview stage? My entire family is of a mixed race. Will additional affidavits from family and friends help to show my husband is very welcome and we ALL cannot wait to have him in our lives?

Ladybug, I have to say this... Most folks (regardless of race) who get turned down have a story.... their own story. It could range from anything such as lack of proof, pictures, story didn't sound real, the interviewer is ignorant. Your story is your own. I see plenty of mixed race couples here who get approved.. IE Jill and Ben he's now home and they are crazy happy. Make this interview your own. Prep him the best you can and don't stop praying or give up. Remember this is your time and your lives. Don't let the stories of others dictated your ending... because yours is a happy one :")

  16. Well I know as of yet Nigeria is not on list to do the NVC forms online. So was wondering how others handled the DS-230 signature from Beneficiary and police report? i mean did you just wait until NOA2 came and they got that and sent all to you (but the DS-230 Part II). Or you had the DS-230 ahead of time or what?

It's just this unreliable mailing system in and out of Nigeria. I know the only way he can send would be DHL. But just wondering as I wait in the USCIS queue. Thanks

What up Dee! You know I tell you how it is and what we did. I scanned my copy of the DS230 to my husbands email inbox. He then printed it off and signed it. He mailed it right back to me... Thru EMS Speed Post like FEDEX. It got to me in like a week. AS far as the police report...you wont need that until you have gotten the "Visa Application" they open the link for you after you've paid the fee. It gives you a list of what needs to be sent in. YOU gather all of it from him meaning he will need to mail everything to you again..yes again you put it in a package and mail it to NVC from here. Once they recieve it you case will be closed and you get your interview date. The DS230 has to be sent back first. If he can go to a cafe and scan it back to your inbox that would be great. We had issues but that was then. Dee you will have to wait until your NOA2 is completed.. if you send it in before time you will just have to do it again. Practice your patients not jumping the gun I know you love your husband but everything in Gods timing so that the NVC has no reason to try to reject what you send. IN constant prayer for you dear sister !

  17. Question: Who do you think should be responsible for paying all the fees for the immigration process? We all know that they can be expensive and add up. But I know that many of our spouses/fiances come from poor countries. Is it fair for the spouse that comes from a more well to do area pay or how would you do it?

My dear sister, Africa is beautiful and it's honestly a very rich country...If you are a part of the Government eating the money. Otherwise there is poverty everywhere. It's truly a third-world country with good proud poor people (we don't know poverty the way they do. I'm saying this to say He may very well be able to pay for his birth certificate, police report even his physical but the mound of the cost will be paid by you. Our government wants the money before they do anything else..like open links so that you can move forward in your paperwork process. You don't want to waste time worrying yourself and not being with your husband. So let him pay for what ever he can pay for and you go ahead and get the rest.. you feel me. I can only tell you what I know... It will all come back to you end the end....when he's here, home and inside your embrace.

  18. Hi guys,

I have my interview on monday, and I was going through my checklist. Realized that my birth certificate is in my safe at the bank. Do they ask for the original birth certificate at the interview? If so , I will have to get it from my bank on Monday, but they dont open until 9am, BUT my interview appointment time IS 9am.

    Urgent responses needed. Thanks!

HEY BREATH FIRST. We have been thru the Nigerian experience so I can tell you first hand that they may ask for it. If you sent it with the list of documents for the visa application they should have a copy. Second, when you got your interview appointment confirmation they sent you a list of documents they did not receive and needed you to bring. However since you do not have the long form birth certificate they asked for then take what you have just make sure you have everything else...God Bless You and I can't wait to see that you got approved!

  19. I filled in September 2010 for my fiancee and we were approved last month Feb. 9th. I received my approval letter Feb 14th. Now my fiancee went to Lagos Embassy to request interview date only to be told they have not received the approval letter from America. So I call the customer service here in the states and they said it has been mailed out. This is strange. Has anyone experience this before in Lagos Embassy or any US embassy?

Hello. The NVC gives out the interview dates not the Consulate. Call NVC and confirm that they have the email addresses current and correct for you and your husband. You can also call every other day to see when a date is available. It took three weeks to get an interview date for us. Just keep checking and praying for endurance.. the date is on it's way...

  20. Hello people.Pls i have a question about birth certificate in Nigeria. For those that have gone through lagos embassy, what type of birth certificate do the embassy accept?do they accept the one from national population commission or the one from the local govt were you were born? And also what does the birth cert from the local govt look like?

    Thanks for your answers.

Greetings, You are welcome. Go to the Local Government office. Make sure you get the "LONG FORM". I say this because there is a short pocket form that the NVC will not accept. If you have more questions email me and I'll get right back.

  21. I don't no if I am posting in the right place or not but, I want to clarify some info that i received today from the local Homeland Security Office. I made an "Info pass" appointment about why its taking so long for me to get my NOIR and they reassured me that a Supervisory review simply means that the agents have made their recommendation and all petitions must be approved by a Supervisor before they are reaffirmed so my petition is now at that stage. So I did all that worrying for nothing. I hope this is helpful to anybody else that needed the answer to "What a supervisory review means".

:) XOXOX TISA, We gotta talk, I'll leave you my number on your email

  22. Is everyone having the same problem as me eating way too much? The food here is just too good and the portion sizes are enough to feed a whole family. On top of that my wife makes some really delicious meals and the best apple pie in America.

I've managed to put on 40lbs in less than 2 years! :crying:

My husband is slim and fit.. he's gained 4 lbs of muscle but he thinks he's fat. So he has decided to loose it and stay smaller... :( He is so fine.. Why Why.... SMH :)
