  1. First, two letters were received. A welcome and a "receipt." Then, yesterday, the green card arrived. But still no social security card.

  2. Oh, well, we live in Chicago. So we'll get plenty of snow once winter arrives! But my wife is already shivering...and today it was bright blue sky and 48 degrees! UGH! She's in for a rude awakening.

  3. Well, I'll let you know as soon as my wife gets hers so you can gauge how long it takes.

Wow...it is SO nice to be home!

Although the weather here is changing and Im afraid its making me sick. High of 77 today...tomorrow high of 37...omg! 40 degrees!

  4. Nope...no card yet. And we are anxiously waiting because she can't get a job without one, plus, when she has it I can file an amendment for our tax return and get more money!

  5. So he is there...home...with you???

    Hurrayyyyyyyyyy!!!

  6. We entered at Ft. Lauderdale. My wife said they hardly asked her anything.

Are you under the impression that your husband simply waits for his Social Security # to arrive in the mail...or does something have to be done???

I thought there was a box we checked that said "I want a SS#."

  7. Hi!

Yes! We are both here and getting in settled in my sister's spare bedroom! Lots of parties this week and tons of fun!

Everything went smoothly...the lines were long and we waited a bunch...but no problems, or weird questions, or strange looks, or red flags or anything...very easy...just LONG and tiring.

    DHL arrive yet???

  8. yes....BE SURE to tell him to first look for the envelope that says "DONT OPEN." be sure he isnt so excited to have his things that he simply starts opening everything!

  9. Yesssssssssssss!!!

Omg, you must be sooooo happy and relieved!

    My wife is the Peruvian.

She received her secret envelope from DHL. And yes, thats the one you give to immigration. So be sure he guards it with his life and he may want to keep it with him and not in his checked luggage.

    Wow....congratulationsssssssssssssssss!!!

  10. October 10th is tomorrow...wow!

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for ya!

Though, I'm sure its not necessary. Won't be long now!

  11. Yeah, I've heard that when folks get approved with everything completed then it only takes a few days. So it will probably be quicker for your husband if doesn't have anything missing like we did.

  12. Let's see...

    Interview was Sept. 10th.

"Issued" date printed on visa says Sept. 18th.

I believe my wife received an email on the 19th saying it was ready for pick up the following day.

We picked up the actual visa at DHL on Sept. 20th.

  13. The $523 is actually Lima to Chicago. One stop in Ft. Lauderdale. I think they only fly this on Sundays though. Check the Spirit Airlines website for your city. Then, check for a Sunday flight. I'll bet its pretty cheap!

  14. Well, if it goes anything like ours did, your hubby will have a very easy time. Looking back, I wonder why I was so worried. In the end, we did what they asked and everything went super smooth! He'll be there soon! I'm looking at flights now. One-way from Lima to Ft. Lauderdale with Spirit Airlines is only $523 (though I wonder what the baggage costs will be...ugh!)

  15. Nope. I'm still sitting her in Peru. Hahaha. Once the visa lands in our hands we'll book our flight.

Tell me again...what stage of the game are you at?

  16. They asked:

    - where we met

    - when we when met in person

    - what my job is

    - job plans for living in US

    - if i had a contract for my job here

    - if i'd be staying for the term of my contract

    and that was about it!

  17. Howdy!

It went well. They said "we're prepared to approve pending receipt of the medical exam results." You see, the doctors were all booked until late last week. So the results won't be ready until tomorrow.

So, although its only about 90% certain, I'd say were good to go!

  18. Ubetcha!

    :-)

  19. Well, just from a mathematic perspective, we filed on Aug. 2nd, and the packet with interview date came exactly 20 days later. So, if you did something on the 7th, and they follow the same time table, maybe your hubby will get something in the mail here in Peru on the 27th (20 days later, like us). I got my fingers crossed for ya!

  20. Yipes...thats gotta be hard! Dont think I'd be able to do that.

  21. Hmmm...then I dont know. We went to the embassy on August 2nd...turned in I-130 and several documents (pics, marriage cert, passport copies)...paid $420...and told we'd hear in 4-5 weeks...Wednesday we got two packets in the mail...one had (2) I-864 forms and medical exam info with interview date....the other yet another I-864 and a list of more documents we need.

  22. Sorry. I'm bad with the lingo. What does "case completed" mean? You mean, when did we get packets 3 and 4 mailed to us and get the interview date?

  23. In Peru. I moved here last November.

  24. Hi! Yes, Monday, September 10th.
