  1. Hi everyone-

Sorry if this is redundant, but one of my friends just married an awesome guy from Jamaica and they are going to be applying for his CR-1 visa. I just want to be crystal clear: they don't need to include that I-864 form in the I-130 packet, right? That's just for AOS? I just don't want to be giving her any bad information. I got a bit confused today, because my husband got an IR-1 visa which is probably why the Affidavit of Support is burned into my memory...

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

  2. He has: 8 Standard Grades, 3 SCE A level equivalent highers that he earned at college in the UK and some HNC credits. The WES online form only allows him to enter a maximum of five or so qualifications. We were told at the college that we should have everything translated as it may count towards college credit. Also: is WES the best option, or is there another organization we should look at?

  3. Hello!

It's been awhile since I've posted here... I didn't know where else to turn, so when in doubt...

My husband (now a US citizen) is interested in going back to Uni here in New York. He was instructed by the SUNY school he's interested in to use a qualification translation service called World Education Services (WES) to prove he has the equivalent of a Regents Diploma (or at least a GED?). He said that this World Education Services has been pretty unhelpful and and difficult to work with.

Does anyone here have any experience with translating their UK education qualifications to US?

I apologize if there is an existing thread on this- it's getting late and I'm beat.

    Many thanks!

  4. My Dad has been taking care of filing my taxes while I have been living in the UK over the past 5 years, but he said that he hasn't included my foreign income and foreign taxes over that time. My parents have agreed to be co-sponsors when we get to the AOS stage, but do you think this oversight on my taxes will matter when they look at my tax returns?

    Hi there,

Are you a USC currently living in the United Kingdom married to a UKC looking to file DCF? If so, then you will probably need your parents to cosponsor your husband for his IR-1/CR-1 visa anyway as you will have to prove your intent to reestablish residency. There will be no Adjustment of Status (AOS) for him if it is IR-1/CR-1.

I also lived in Glasgow for just shy of 4 years, I filed all my foreign earnings using the Foreign Earned Income Exemption. They were mostly interested in my Dad's taxes as he was my joint sponsor. If you need anymore help message me :)

  5. Having been around awhile, I've seen a lot of bright-eyed UK fiancées telling their plans for the big wedding "later". Then later they decide the money is better spent on down payment for a house, a second car, etc or they are ready to move back to the UK because they hate it here.

Immigration just sucks the life out of some dreams..................... :dead:

Absolutely! I feel so far behind the eight ball due to all this immigration sh*te it's unbelievable sometimes... but it is worth it and I do mean that.

Now to gear up for the in-law visits, they've never been to the US before... it will be, um, interesting....

  6. Ohhh, the DMV, i've heard some great horror stories about them too! However, i went there a few days ago to get my state ID and actually had a rather pleasant experience. Went early in the morning so there wasn't as many people there, didn't have to wait very long to be seen. The first person wasn't sure what to do with me so she gave me to someone else who was very wonderful, gave me my card no problems and answered all of the driving questions i had and gave me a book to learn the road rules for the written test :)

I feel a lot better now, there are still a lot of things here that i don't understand and really scare me (even just simple things) but the first few months i was here were awful. I was so homesick and only seeing the bad side to everything. I don't have any constructive advice, i'm sorry, I pretty much just had to wait it out. It will be hard for a while, but it will get better, things will always get better :)

Something that has actually helped come to think of it, I used to stay home all day while my husband was at work, didn't want to go anywhere without him. In the last month though i've started going for walks around our area by myself during the day and catching the bus and doing small errands like going to the post office or the bank. Just little things have slowly helped me to feel more confident around other people here and helped me feel more at home.

Ha! I almost just had a battle with the lady at the DMV but she eventually backed down and scurried off to get her supervisor and it was all a-okay in the end. At first she tried telling me that I needed to, and I quote, "go to the American embassy and get a certificate for my UK marriage certificate" to change my name on my license! Total 'computer says no' type woman.

  7. have any of you had any luck with TJ/TK Maxx or Marshalls? Everyone I know gets some really nice bits in there, but whenever I go in, I never find anything. I call it the Primark effect. The same thing happens to me in there! Everyone has really nice Primark stuff, but whenever I go in there, its like a bombs gone off in a jumble sale and the only things I see are #######!

I freakin' love TJ Maxx and Marshalls! I just got this awesome pair of Guess jeans for $25.00!
