AOS was approved!! Interview was sooo easy. The guy was really friendly and pretty much said we were approved before we even sat down. He said, "I've been looking over your file, and seeing you guys - well, I'm a pretty good judge of character." He looked over our stuff again while he talked to us, made jokes, and just made us feel really comfortable. He asked us how we met, and how it progressed from there.
The best part was that he stamped my passport with an I-551 so that I could leave the country ad come back before I actually get my greencard in the mail. I'm going to visit my family in Canada, leaving Dec 14th, and we weren't sure that I'd have the greencard by then, so this will ensure that I can still travel
Painless and easy....thanks everyone for all your help along the way. I hope everyone else's goes this smooth.
Congratulations AlinaH !!!

Hey everyone. This is finally coming to an end for me! Our interview is in just a few days, and I want to make sure I'm prepared. What do I need to bring? Any other advice about the interview would be great!
Thanks so much
AlinaH, bring Original and copies of everything you sent with the forms. Usually they want to see, the lease or the title of the property with both of your names on it, title of car same with both of your names on it, letter from health insurance saying you are the beneficiary, life insurance if you have, bills with both your names, they want to see the original of your birth certificates so don´t forget those, passports of both, pictures of things you did together before marriage and pictures of the marriage, letter of your sponsor employment, anything else you think can be helpful just bring it don´t forget the copies

Question for the AOS interview - if I previously submitted I-864 with all the supports and between that application and my interview, my husband switched jobs, do I need to bring an updated I-864 for my interview?
Thanks!
KT and Xyrena, my husband switched jobs one week before our interview and we didn´t bring another I-864, we just brought a letter from his new employer saying when he started his new job, how many hours he works, and his salary and the IO said that was enough and thank us. I hope this helps.

Ben received his EAD/AP combo card last night in the mail
So happy...but I do have a question (tried to look here, but couldn't find what I was looking for)...The card expires in one year...even after AOS is approved and we receive the green card...do we "still" have to reapply for EAD/AP before this current card expires???
Any feedback would be most appreciated. I apologize if this answer exists somewhere
Ben and Jill, I asked that same question to the IO the day I had my interview and she told me once I receive the GC you should not use the EAD/AP anymore because the GC will be good for work and travel. So there is no need to reapply for EAD/AP once you get AOS approved.

Hi Everyone as I promised here is what happened yesterday at our interview in the USCIS office at Indianapolis:
I am adjusting from a B2 and my husband is the U.S Citizen.
Our interview was scheduled at 10:40 a.m. We arrived at 9:40 because we thought we would have a hard time trying to find where to park since the office is at downtown Indianapolis and it was raining a lot. We didn´t have any trouble at all finding a parking spot just in front of the building. We went upstairs and a security girl told me to give my interview notice to the lady seating behind the window. It was the only window open. I did it and she told me to sit down an wait to be called. We sat down at the waiting room and just talk to each other. We saw a very old male IO coming out and called the Asian family that was already there before us, then another male IO officer came out and called a man that was alone. We thought it is going to be only men at this office. Then a young lady came out and called my name it was only 10:15. We stand up and went toward her she greet us with a smile and told us where to go. We step inside her office and she told us to put everything we had in our hands over the chairs and to stand up in front of her with our right hand up. She sworn us in and they she told is that we should be aware that we were being taped. She started with my husband.
The questions were:
- What is your full name?
- Where were you born?
- What is your birth date?
- Where do you live now?
- Tell me your address
- In what other places did you live before?
- Have you ever been married before?
- Do you have any children?
- When did you get married? (My husband block for 5 minutes because he was so nervous he said he could not remember the day then he said it right lol the IO smiled)
- Have you filed this petition for anyone else before?
- Where do you work?
Every time she asked my husband a question she just put a check in the I-485 with a red pen.
Then she said know is your turn madam:
- What is your full name?
- Where were you born?
- What is your birth date?
- Where do you live?
- What is your address?
- Have you ever been married before?
- Do you have any children?
then she said lets talk about your previous visits to the U.S.A, she asked if that was the only passport I have ever used to enter the country, then she ask me How many time have you ever visit the U.S.A., I told her 4, she asked tell me the port of entry of those 4. I had to recall all my entries because she had my passport in her hands while she was asking me that. Then she asked if I knew anybody else apart from my husband in the U.S.A. She then took out some papers and ask me that when I asked for my B2 visa in Madrid, Spain I told them I was going to stay at xxxx place in Miami. I told them yes he is my older sister´s father in law. She was fine with the answer. I wasn´t really expecting that they would look into that but that is fine. She then asked me the Yes/No questions from the I-485.
She asked my husband how did you meet, how long was the courtship and when did we get engaged. Then she said do you have anything else you want to give me as evidence of a bona fide marriage. I gave her copy of health insurance cards, bank statements, just one electric bill with both our names in it because that was the only one we had, copy of my airline tickets when we visited each other, a copy of the bill from the hotel we stayed for our honeymoon, a letter from his employer because my husband started a new job a week ago, the IO was fine with that no big deal. Then I hand her my photo album she looked at it very quickly never asked anything and the closed it and said OK. I am going to recommend this case for approval, and she checked the box that said approved in her papers. She said I will receive my GC in two weeks and how to remove conditions. Then she told me that in 3 years I can become a Citizen if I wanted to. She look at me and said do you have any questions and I asked her about the EAD since I only had it for 3 days and she said you can keep it and use if you need too but your GC will come soon so once you have it don´t use the EAD anymore. And the she smiled and walk us out.
Around 6:30 p.m I got a text saying my case has been update so I went to look online and my status changed to GC production
Sorry I made it so long but I don´t want to miss any detail that can help anyone

Hi I had my AOS interview yesterday and my husband who is my sponsor switched to another job a week ago. I was very worried about that yesterday since we file I-864 with the information from his previous employer. When we sent all the forms the first time we only sent a letter from his employer no payslips. So yesterday I brought the payslips from his previous employer and a letter from his new employer. We told the IO that he switched jobs a week ago and we didn´t have any payslips because he hasn´t been paid yet. She said don´t worry about that people change jobs all the time. She just updated the new employer in the I-485 with a pen and then thank us for bringing the letter from his new employer (i had a copy but she asked to keep the original).
I hope this helps.

Your wife must know someone in Colombia that might have a friend that can go a ask for a copy of the marriage certificate. I was born in Valledupar a tiny town in Colombia and all my family is in Bogota and my mother always finds a way to get someone to go get a copy of my birth certificate and send it to her then she goes to the notariado an registro herself and gets it certified.

Congratulations !!!!

You don´t have to leave you can stay and adjust status inside the USA. It is up to you.

Hello VJ members, I have my AOS interview scheduled for November 22, 2011 at the Indianapolis USCIS office. I was wondering if anyone had their interview at this local office and if the officers are mostly men or women just for curiosity. Also your experience at this office will be appreciated. Thank you

Congratulations!!!

I'm in Indiana and my wife needs i-693. She has had about one half of the required vaccinations. Does anyone have a suggestion?
I live in Greenfield, IN and I did my medical examination at St. Francis Occupational. I had all my vaccines so they only charged me for the medical examination and my blood test which is mandatory. It cost me $200 and I pretty much called all the civil surgeons listed in the USCIS website and could´t find a better price. Hope this helps

Hello all!
Happy friday!
I know the matter about the birth certificate translation for AOS has been discussed before. A friend of mine is currently taking care of the translation and she is asking if it needs to be literal.. I'll explain myself better: my birth certificate is very close to a declaration made by the person who was at the registry office that day, stating that this man (my father) presented himself in front of him telling him that a child was born and blah blah...
I've seen my fiancee's birth certificate and it's actually very different, it looks more like a chart with all the data
so I'm wondering if it would be better to do something more similar to it.
What do you guys think?
Thank you and blessings
I will suggest that you translate literally your birth certificate. That is how i did it even though mine did not look like my husband´s birth certificate either. Make sure your friend can certify she is an accurate translator of your language. Hope this helps.

Hi,
I am sponsoring my Canadian wife I am a USC. I make around $50k here in Canada as a freelance contractor. I'm not sure that I can prove that I will make that when I move down to the States, although I probably will because my current clients will most likely send me work still.
My question is should I have my father who is retired be a joint sponsor? His household income is 125% greater than the poverty line for his household (including my wife). The thing is that it is with my mother's income as well—they file jointly.
Do any of you see this as a problem? I just don't want to fly my wife out to Quebec only to get rejected and have to do it all over again.
Thanks!
Joe
Hi everything depends on how many people are in your household. My husband makes $39K and we have a household of 3. His income was still above the 125% poverty guidelines.

Good evening,
I understand that one can still travel to the States while the Visa is in Progress.
With plenty of evidence to show that I am not intending to live. My question is will the POE officer know that I have a Visa pending?
If not should I mention it or not?
I live in Vancouver Canada, not to far from the USA Boarder, and I'd like to go see my hubby for the Holidays.
Just be honest when he pops the question: Do you have any relatives in the USA. I don´´t think that will be much of a trouble. Probably it will show in his computer that you are in process for a CR1 visa. Good Luck!

My wife just received her Visa from the embassy in Bogota. She has quite a few things to do before coming to the U.S that could take 3 or 4 months, does anyone know how much time she has before she HAS to come or the Visa will expire?
She has 90 days to get married since the visa was issued. So 3 months.

We just got our AOS interview approved recently. We are so happy that we are finally together. Hence, we would like to share our experience with others.
Our AOS interview went very smoothly. The officer is really professional. She called my name, and we came to her office. She barely smiled, to be exact, she never smiled at us, which made us really nervous at first. However, she don't ask us trick questions. She asked each of us a set of identification questions such as my name, DOB, place of birth, address,... very basic info. Then she asked my wife on how we met, when, and when we decided to get married.
Then she asked us for more evidences. Finally, she told us to leave and wait for them to mail the decision within 30 days. We are so happy to get this done. We just so worry that we won't be together. Now, we are so happy now.
To your reference, this is my application time line, good luck to all others:
2009: First meeting.
June 14th, 2011: get married.
June 30th, 2011: all 4 applications submitted.
July 15, 2011: NOA received in the mail.
July 18, 2011: Biometrics appt letter in the mail.
August 10, 2011: Biometrics done.
August 22, 2011: AOS interview appt in the mail.
Sep 22, 2011: AOS interview - GC approved.
Hope you all of luck.
Congratulations to you both and thank you for sharing what happen at the interview. The questions about how you guys met where asked to just to your wife or to both of you? Is your wife the US Citizen? Sorry to ask so many questions. I just want to make sure my husband knows what kind of questions he will be asked.
