  1. Hi All,

So my timeline seems to be moving along at a good pace now, I received NOA 2 and petition has been sent to Kingston. I tracked on DHL and it appears that my petition has reached Kingston last week. What do I do after it reaches? Should i be calling or emailing the embassy. I know I need to send form DS 230 but how do I know when to send it? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

  2. I understand now about the timeline :) Do you plan on submitting the I-129f before you go down?

There is no need to get the non-impediment in December, better to wait until closer to the interview. It is not really anything you can help him with, he needs to go to RGD and request it. Many people have had trouble getting the form in a timely manner from RGD tho they say they have rush processing it's not always delivered in the time frame given... I would say have him go for the non-impediment maybe 3 months after you file.

Spend your time in December enjoying each other, fill out, and have him sign the forms needed. Even the passport pictures should wait as they want recent photos (within 30 days) for the medical and interview.

It's a hurry up and wait game for true. (F)

Thanks for the info. He filled out the forms needed to submit the application and mailed them back to me. So now I am waiting for their arrival. Do you know if I need a copy of his birth certificate to submit with the 129F application? Also, just curious what part of Jamaica is your fiance from because I had issues writing the address on the forms since in rural parts they don't use a street number.

  3. Have you already filed the K1 petition?

The non-impediment form is a form stating that he has never been married before. Your fiance' can obtain this from the RGD http://www.rgd.gov.jm/

I would wait to get the police record until after you get the USCIS approval.

    :time:

Sorry there is nothing to put in my timeline at this time. I haven't filed any applications yet. Is it too early to get the certificate of impediment when I go in December?

  4. while your there in jamaica, have her take passport photos, have her sign the G-325A sign the letter of intent, have her sign choice of agent 3032,take a lot of pictures togather and family, keep all receipts of atms, hotals, air line boarding passes, you will need proof of meeting within two years, and relationship,to put on the 1-129f form..have a nice trip.

What is choice of agent 3032?

  5. Has he filled out the G325A yet? He needs to do that and the letter of intent- it is too early to think about the police certificate.

He filled out the G325A and is mailing that back to me with the letter of intent. But I am not sure what else is coming down the line in terms of the next step of the process. Mail takes nearly 2 weeks to arrive in the US so if I can get any forms completed while I'm there that can help move things along.

  6. Where are you in the process? If you filled out your timeline it would help people to answer

I have just started the paperwork to file for the K 1 visa.

a Non-Impediment record is basically the same thing as an affidavit of single status. A document stating that you or he are not already married and are legally eligible to get married. Not sure what the requirements are for kingston so someone else can address whether you need that or an affidavit of single status is enough. The police clearance is generally good for 1 year but only your future spouse needs that so it doesn't need to be obtained while you are there. The medical is the one that has the shorter life span and needs to be as close to the interview as possible as the visa will only be for as long as the time remaining on the medical.

Double check the wiki and get signatures for forms that are required for both the USCIS and NVC process and have him sign in blue ink as black ink seems to be getting rejected sometimes.

The only other thing to do is relax and enjoy the time with your fiancee :P and take lots of pictures.

    Thanks for the advice.

  7. Hi everyone,

I am going to Jamaica in December and I want to know if I need to do anything in person while I am there with my fiance or are there any forms that he needs to sign that we should at that time. Also, I hear people mentioning the no impediment record. What is that? Is it something we both need or just him? And how do we obtain this. Also, for the police record how far from the interview date can you obtain this. Is December too early?

  8. So I am in the process of beginning the petition to bring my boyfriend to the states so we can get married. In filling out the I-129F, I became very confused with what to put for the Address. He keeps telling me just the name of the development (scheme as he calls it) then Montego Bay, St. James. I keep asking him for a house number and street and he tells me mail works different there. Apparently all the mail gets sent to the Post Office of that area and Its either PO 1 or PO 2 in Montego Bay. I am having a hard time making sense of it all. I just want to make sure it is all filled out correctly on the paperwork. Anyone with experience in this area or who can explain the proper way to go about it, all help would be much appreciated.

I am having the same issue with the address and I have yet to resolve it. My boyfriend and I argued about it the other day because it was not making any sense to me.

  9. Hi,

I am filling out the forms for the K 1 visa and I have questions about form 325A (biographical information). I understand that a form has to be completed for me and my fiance but I am confused about who signs the form. Technically I am the applicant so do I sign both forms or do we each have to sign our respective forms. Please tell me what you have done.

  10. In addition to reading the K1 guide, you might want to join the Regional forum .. Latin America, Mexico and Caribbean and read through some of the issues experienced at your particular consulate, as they often have slight variations on their customs and practice when reviewing applications. It helps to know where the danger spots are in advance so you can prepare as well as possible.

The only other recommendation is to visit USCIS.gov and download the forms for the process WITH their accompanying guide notes. Fill in the obvious information and then jot down any questions you have, bring them back to VJ and ask. VJ has a good community spirit, with some very knowledgeable folks and they'll either point you in the right direction or recommend you hire a lawyer if they think you need more assistance.

Best of luck with your process. :)

Thanks for the encouraging words...question on the application when they just ask for City and Country, should you not list the state?

  11. Hi,

I am so glad I found this site and it's great to meet other people in the same position as me. My fiance is in Jamaica and I need to file the K 1 visa application and I just want to make sure I fill out all the correct forms and submit the correct documentation. I would love to speak to people online or offline about the application process so I can get things moving. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
