  1. I would include a copy showing your and your spouse's credit cards side by side - to show identical credit card numbers. Then include random statements from the time the credit card was opened to the time of filing. I'd include minimum three statements/year.

If your credit cards and auto insurance changed, yes I'd include those and give an explanation as well.

    Useful info! Thanks

  2. Is the list of evidence you need to prove you are married? I am actually gathering up my stuff now to mail out tomorrow for an RFE we received to show proof of a valid marriage. We did not need to do an interview, and after almost a year since we submitted her AOS, we now got an RFE. The letter we received gives a list of things which would support a bona fide marriage.

The letter says to send an original marraige certifiacte and any of the following:

    • Birth certificates of children born of the marriage.
    • Rental/Lease agreements.
    • Life, health and/or Auto insurance policies.
    • Joint bank account and/or credit accounts.
    • Proof of joint ownership of property such as: hoome, invenstments, automobiles.
    • Joint income tax returns.
My wife and I tried repeatedly to add her to my bank account with Chase, but were denied every time. The last thing she needs is something showing her address on it. For some reason all the letters she received from USCIS, and even our tax transcripts from the IRS were not good enough. I was frustrated to the point of seriously considering closing all my accounts and moving to a different bank. My wife has recently started working and a pay check is one thing Chase accepts, so we will try again when she gets that. We have also been unsuccessful getting here a state ID in Illinois which would have solved the issue. At this point I think we have enough other things from the list and do not need the joint bank account right now.

Marriage certificate is not listed as the requirement but if they want It guess we will have to send it in again...I think what a good, document shows your wife's address is a driver's license. Banks usually only accept government issued ID..i am wondering what documents did you submit at first?

  3. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! :-)

My DL has the same address as my husband and we have lots pictures to show.

I am the primary beneficiary and our daughter is the secondary beneficiary to all of my husband's benefits. Does that count as a will?

The only bill we pay together is one of our credit cards. I have my name and card listed there but the only thing i can provide prob is a screenshot of the page showing that.

As for how I pay for my stuff....I have my own bank account...savings and checking account. 99.9% of the time I pay with our credit cards though. If i need cash I get them from my bank.

  4. Hi everyone, I need some advice on the evidence to submit and here's the list I am going to submit:

    1. Joint tax returns 2013 -2014

    2. Birth Certificate of our daughter

    3. Joint health insurance ( I am on his work plan)

    4. Beneficiary to his life insurance

    5. Joint credit card account ( he is primary account holder and I am secondary)

    6. Joint Car insurance

    7. Joint phone bill account

    Questions:

    1. I am a stay-home mom so I don't pay for his mortgage for the houses and we don't have a joint savings account ( and we don't need cause he pays off everything anyway) . Is that going to be an issue?

    2. Are pictures and affidavit letter really necessary?

    3. Any advice on the evidence?

My card is going to expire the end of January and hopefully i will have enough time to finish it up...nothing is guaranteed with a 1-year old haha

    Thanks :-)

  5. I received my green card the beginning of this month and went to the social security office to change my status about 2 weeks later. The ssn lady checked on her computer and told me that my information in the immigration database only showed my maiden name. I was able to change my name on my ssn card with my work authorization ( under my married name) and my marriage certificate.

I came here on K-1 under my maiden name...applied for green card and work authorization under my married name and got both under my married name.

    So confused with the situation!!!

  6. They cashed the check within the first week they received my package, and 5 months later, in August they sent me a letter saying I am a potential interview waiver candidate, and so there will be a delay but will hear the decision within about 6 month of time. So next month will be the 6th month. I have already filed another request through the Uscis call center and now considering going to make an appointment if still not hearing anything from them by the end of next month. I have already got my EAD in May.

  7. Exactly, I think you should have known your partner and his/her family very well before you filed for your K-1. I am not sure how those girls got their K-1 cause it seems to me the only thing they know about their other half is his (first) name ( not even the last names). The TV show is kinda misleading and makes the K-1 sounds too casual to get.

  8. Sorry, my previous answer was wrong..i think I got my social like 2.5 weeks after I came here on K-1 ( I went there first time around 10 days after my entry, they say they cannot find my info so I had to go back in again)...So if you did not do that soon enough before 90 days get expired, you will need to waiting for your EAD along with your original wedding certificate to apply for Social card.

  9. I do believe that you will need your EAD to apply for a SS card because you are currently out of status. Once you get your EAD, you are officially "registered" with US immigration and qualified to apply for SS card. Don't forget to bring your original wedding certificate when you apply. Once you get your SS card you can then apply for DL and open a bank account and etc.

  10. Quite interesting show as if I could see myself in it but as someone who knew my husband and his family A LOT better than those girls. Not sure but it seems to me there are so much unknowings about their relationships and 90 days is used as knowing their husband-to-be better instead of planning the wedding.

For me I have had met my husband's family and has been to his house and everything even before applying for my K-1 via (maybe because I was close), 90-day was only used for wedding planning instead of still trying to make sure he's the one...

So what is your situation? :-)

  11. I sent out the package in March, around 20ish...And still the status is acceptance, it has been almost 1 year and I am still waiting :-(. I used the e-request but it says the information I provided was unclear so that they could not give me the info.

So anyone had such experience before? Is it worth to give uscis a call? I tried once and it was such a waste of time (basically just recommended me to use the useless e-request). You think I should just wait or should I make another phone call and maybe talk to a director?

    Any suggestion is appreciated,

    Lynn

  12. This is my third encounter with Texas SSN center and I am so frustrated. I came to US on K-1 and got married within 90 days and applied for AOS shortly after my I-94 expired. I received my EAD and AP last week and thought I am good to go...not quite the story.

Texas is not quite a place you are most comfortable with if you don't have a car and a DL ( so different from Toronto or even Ottawa where I moved from). My driving licence is only good for 3 months after I move here so what I do all day is staying at home :-(.

Anyway, I applied for SSN within 3 months after I came here and got it. Second time I went to SSN center to change my name, I got turned away due to expired I-94 (#######). The lady told me wait till I receive my EAD, which is the reason why I went up there again today! Stupid me did not go with an original marriage certificate which has been filed with my immigration, so I only took a photocopy...so guess what?! Another waste of time!

My second destination is DMV, I did not get much hope for getting my DL figuring they prob need my MC, too. So I just walked in hoping to get more accurate information from them. ( I tried to call DMV, and it was some horrifying experience. They put you on hold for 20+ mins and More. I never made it though) The guy took my 2 pieces of residency proof, SSN ( still in Maiden name), Canadian DL and EAD. Things went great until they verified my EAD. I even got my pictures taken and stuff. So what happened is that he said everything he tried to verify my info, no result is showing. He twirled his computer so I could see the screen...it says PENDING. He said he could send my information to Austin, Texas to verify and I should get a letter from them a week from now. Plus I need to go to DMV again with that letter to apply again. Bummer.

So anyone knows what is going on with my status? Seems like it happens to quite a few people here and I want to know how you guys solve it..( or never get it solved).

    Any input is appreciated!!!

  13. No way! It happened to me today. I received my EAD the beginning of June and wanted to get my Texas DL ( I have a Canadian one, and I think it is only good for 3 months after I move here) Anyway, they took my IDs..SSN, Canadian DL and EAD. No problem with SSN and DL until they tried to verified my EAD...it says pending! So I could not get my DL today after 1 hour of waiting!!! The guy told me they have to send my information to Austin to verify and I should get a mail from them for about a week. Only with that letter I would be able to get my DL. Plus, the SSN lady said she need to see original Marriage certificate but a photocopy to get my name changed this morning...So double the frustration...

So what's up with my EAD? why is it showing pending?!! It would be a nightmare that I would be able to get my DL only after I get my GC...:-(

  14. So what is the best time to change my last name? And should I use his last name when applying for Aos? So what should be done first, change last name on SSN card before applying for Aos? Do I need to get a new passport in relating to the new name?

Any question is about Flu shot. I have past my med exam back in Canada this September (for K-1), and at that time no other vaccinations were needed (that was during not flu reason so I never got to have a flu shot), so can I use the same report to apply for AOS?

    Thanks,

    Lin

  15. My story is a bit complicated comparing to other VJers. We failed our first K-1 petition because we did not take paper work seriously. We got punished by wasting 6 months. Luckily, I found VJ, a gift from heaven. With the help from everybody, we succeeded in the application for K-1, and eventually I got my Fiance visa in September.

Tomorrow is the day I am going to leave Canada. Thinking about I can no longer see my family and friends after tomorrow as what I did for the past years brought tears to my eyes. 6 months ago, I was complaining about the waiting, but tonight I really wish time could go as slow as possible...

Exciting new life in the States. Big step for our relationship. BUT I am going to miss my life here SO MUCH...
