  1. I can not figure where top post this question? My wife is a Philippina she came to the US on a fiancee visa and we were married 3 years ago in the US. We have done the paperwork and have just finished up the removal of conditions succesfully.

Her Philippine passport has her maiden name on it, should this be changed? I guess best question is what should we do now? She may be traveling to the Philippines next year in june, for short trip.

  2. I am a terrible record keeper and I hate paperwork!! I have done nothing the way a properly prepared person should do.

We filed for the removing conditions and I did my best to do a good job on it. It was not well done, but I tried. Then we got the letter for the appointment asking for, well check the link and read the letter. Way beyond my capabilities to provide all that!! So I did whatever was easy and nothing else. I'm old, I can be cranky and I can afford a lawyer to get me out of a mess.

So we go to the interview in Tampa Fl, arrive one half hour early. We are told to wait in another building and we will be called. 40 min later we are called, go into the main building, purse and briefcase go through scanner and we are sent down the hall around a corner and wait to be called. We sit about 10 min and a young lady comes out and looks like she has been grilled, no smile. What I assume to be her husband is immediatly taken into the same room. He is loaded with photo albums, I'm talking like 5 big ones!!! maybe 200 photos each. I do not know what stage of the process they are in.

At that time a young man, the case officer comes and asks for my wife, I start to get up and he says in a nice way, not you just your wife and her paperwork!! I'm thinking oh no!! Not my poor wife and the briefest of papers, I'm sorry honey.

After a little more than 5 minutes she comes out and says let's go. Its my turn I say. She says no we are leaving. I ask her what happened? (I'm thinking she is being deported and the police are going to arrest me at the door) She says the officer asked her for her ID Then took and kept her Green card (expired) and stamped my passport. They said I will get a new card befor Christmas!!

Her version of inside the office, the officer asked how long she had been married? Where we met? and what I was doing in the Philippines? I was traveling Asia and went to Manilia to get a perscription from the VA clinic, she tells the man.

He asked to see the title for the house we bought in Feb, Took here card, stamped her passport and told her goodby!!!!! He Did not even keep the copy of the title I included.

The stamp says "serves as temporary I-551 evidenceing permanent residencey for one year"

    interested.

Thank you all for your help and support over the years. Jim and Josie

  3. I will do this a bit differently this time. I Will try to download the letter we recieved as a help to anyone who expects one in the future. Now I said we recieved, it was addressed to her not to me or us!!

They have asked for some things that seem odd at best. I of course ran around like a chicken with its head chopped off. When in danger when in doubt run around in circles scream and shout.

I hate paperwork, I also know if the Federal Gov. made beer it would cost $80 a bottle and taste vile. But after reading this, I may have read some things into it.

#3. Are they asking for her bank statements? They did not send the letter to me, they sent it to her!! We have a joint account, I can provide that with no problem. ine are a pain to get, may be expensive also

#5 Now this is a biggie, in no way shape or form did they ask for rent reciepts!!!! Read it, this is the US federal Gov. If they are not asking for rent reciepts why should I take any?? We have a warrenty deed since Feb of this year, both our names are on it, I can eaisely take that.

#6 Auto's, she does not own any cars, they sent the letter to her, not to me. My name is not on here, I am suppose to go with her, they only refer to me as the spouse.

Am I being delusional, What say Ye??

  4. Your fiancees visa does not "expire" You have fufilled the conditions of the visa by getting married within the 90 days! The next step is to file for an "adjustment of status (AOS)" Also at the same time if you want her to work file for an "employment authorization document (EAD) ". Unless the law has changed you do not need to file for the AOS withinn 90 days. But it will take a long time, ours took 1 year. So the sooner you start the better!

Should I have received anything in the mail? No

  5. My wife and I have a 39 year age difference. We spent 5 months together in the PI's twice for a total of 10 months. We experienced no questions about the age gap! But it is unusual in western culture, so do not be afraid of some questions. Maybe the interviewer is curious or maybe the interviewer is looking for a wife for himself or father!!

Do not be afraid of the interviewer. They are trying to do a job. To keep undesireable individuals out of this country. If you are honest and not trying to scam the system. You have nothing to fear.

  6. THEY DID FORWARD THE GREEN CARD!!!! What I was trying to say is the USCIS in Missouri does not put "return service requested" " return to sender" or "do not forward" on thier envelopes. I have no experience with any other offices only Missouri. If you are moving and have put a change of address in with the post office and your case is with the missouri USCIS office. Relax it will get to you!! Of couse follow the USCIS address change instructions also.

    Just trying to help!

  7. JOsephine had her AOS interview sept 26,06 we rieceved the GC March 12th!

I've been very concerned about mail delivery on this. We are having our mail forwarded by the post office. I have not put in a change of address, becuse I am not moving. Just staying out of Buffalo NY for the winter. I am having he mail forwarded to a friends in FL. Where I pick it up as needed. I'm not moving, I am on a long vacation!

The envelope from USCIS in MO had nothing on it speicifying "do not forward" "return to sender" ect. HTH someone.

  8. I wish they would quit sending letters and just send the green card!

  10. Josephine and I recieved the welcome email today. I have mixed feelings. First its Great!!! its over. But the letter says that the snail mail letter will be sent and the Green Card should be recieved within 60 days. So do not pull our names from any lists or put completed next us. It just feels real good to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel. IS that a whistle I hear?

  11. We had our interview Sept 06 in the Buffalo NY office and were told that we were approved pending the FBI namecheck. We are now in Arcadia Florida for a few months and have not recieved the Green Card. I made an Info Pass appointment for the 9th of Jan in Tampa FL. We went to the appointment, got to see an agent right away. He was polite, treated us with dignity and respect and was as helpful as he could be. But the best he could tell us was that our case is "pending" I asked if there was some way we could follow the case. He told us no that once it was transferred to a local office there was no we we could track it.

  12. Our K1 journey has went very well. We filed for AOS July 6th 2006 in Buffalo NY. The biometeics was Aug 3rd and our interview was today Sept 26th. The interview was quick. We were sworn in, he looked at our passports asked very few questions. Simple questions, are we still at the same address, her mothers and fathers name, how many times had I been married, not an interrigation at all!! He then stated that our case was going to be approved pending the FBI name check and that the green card would be mailed to us. I assume that we have to wait for te FBI becuse we got through the system so quickly!!

My question being, see this is Buffalo NY and its getting cold out, I want to go to FL. Will someone have to sign for the Greencard? Is it forwardable?

  13. Becuse of traveling since we came to the US, Josephine and I do not have a lot of documentation. Some of what we do have is contradicting, we have a NY address but she has a Florida learners permit! I'm not worried about any of this. We are honest and have nothing to hide. So don't worry. The other side of this, if you show up too well prepared with too much documentation they may wonder what you are trying too hide!
